Great location amongst the wildlife, staff very friendly and helpful, wildlife visible from room veranda. Able to enjoy hikes at own leisure.
We thought the activities were expensive , the butterfly enclosure was in need of renovation, only a few butterfly.
There is no air con in room, but this is a personal note.

the staff is very friendly. The rooms are nice with beautiful nature. There are nice activities in the same property.
the bed wasnt very comfy. The food at the restaurant was expensive and not the best quality.

it is wonderful. the nature is superb. quite a bit to do on the property. soooo many animals.
the cost of food was pretty insane for the quality.

The surroundings are beautiful, the staff excellent, and the food was really good.

Fantastic accommodation in the middle of the mountain jungle with opportunities for walks and a cable car in the treetops. Pleasant restaurant and good breakfast.
We have nothing to complain about.

The reserve is really nice but can be a bit of a theme park with truck loads of people coming on. That said, it was possible to get some quiet time. The aerial tram was a big highlight.
The room was as expected: Not luxurious but perfectly passable, and mattress was comfortable which was a bonus, but it was cold and there was no blanket, or cover really!
The restaurant buffet lunch was the best meal - that was really nice. Breakfast was not great, dinner was good but overpriced. If you stay, you are stuck there as there's no other option nearby.

spectacular location and wonderful trails on the property. you feel deep in the rainforest. The night nature tour was great.

The only POSITIVES: Hot water. Carlos and Marcus were very nice! Limited menu was not overpriced.
Beware of everything else especially cost!
Cabin #1. Superior??? NOT Superior! Better than the rest!? SEE ATTACHED PICTURES!
I have not had breakfast. I am so angry at the bait and switch that happened through Bookings.com. I was charged $146.24 for the supposed better room. You sent me lovely photo. What I received was NOTHING like the picture. NOTHING! I have photo if it’s possible to attach. Bait and Switch. There is only one old picture of this exact room shown in the Tapirus Lodge photo gallery that we could find. All the other photos are of something else. Totally different rooms.
We were basically sharing a room with a younger couple that yelled and Skyped all night. We asked 3 times for quiet and finally went to get security only to find NONE.
I’m going to request refund here at the motel
Then request from Bookings.com
Then lodge complaint from my credit card with pictures.
I also submit to Trip Advisor. With pictures!
Shameful Stop the Bait and Switch. Show the actual rooms with blood spots on the wall from bugs. Rotted walls and ceiling black. Filthy windows and screens. See pics. Paint slapped on and dripping. Open electrical panel. Your beds are not big, they are two short hard twin beds pushed together. No heat, NO extra blanket. No cushions to sit on! Bathroom old stained, desperate need of demo.
If you read the activities available here you will see “for a fee” on everything. Not even allowed to walk around after 5 pm. Why???
The photo of the frog is the picture hung in the room with smashed bug splats on it.

Location is great, very close to SJ downtown - 45 min drive. The staff was very nice, the tours they offer are great, we loved the trails and waking up with nature all around you is amazing.
The room was clean and a perfect size for one night stay, but I think some accessories from the bathroom could be replaced as they were old and rusty.

All the glass to be able to see out into the jungle was great. Very clean and comfortable rooms. it was great being able to have a hot shower after being out in the rain.

We saw wonderful wildlife, including a helmeted basilisk and a tapir! The staff was incredible too!
The glass windows in the restaurant attracted many bird strikes. It was sad to see dead beautiful creatures such as green hermits hit the windows and die. We have found that mosquito netting framed outside the window would prevent the reflections that attract the birds.

Tapirus Lodge and Reserve (near Braulio Carrillo) was a GREAT location for birding. We were very pleasantly surprised because most of what we read prior to our visit was with respect to (the connected partner) Rainforest Adventures tours (rather than how great the self-guided birding could be). My wife and I arrived after dark, checked in with the security guard and drove our rental car the 2 km down the private jungle road to the lodge area. We were welcomed by helpful staff, who provided the logistics we needed. The next morning we saw (on our own) ~20 great bird species in 2 hours around the restaurant and part way down the road, including Squirrel Cuckoo, Green Hermit, Purple-crowned Fairy, Red-headed Barbet, Prong-billed Barbet, Yellow-throated Toucan, Brown-hooded Parrot, Mealy Parrot. Plain-brown Woodcreeper, Northern Barred-Woodcreeper, Rufous Mourner, Bay Wren, Clay-colored Thrush, Orange-billed Sparrow, Scarlet-rumped Cacique, Buff-rumped Warbler, Black-faced Grosbeak, Speckled Tanager, and Bananaquit. This is a GREAT birding location, especially the Tapirus private (quiet) road. We could have easily spent another day birding on our own. We weren't interested in tours, and only spent the 1 night and early morning because we were just passing through on our way to Tortuguero (and then Rancho Naturalista), but we'll certainly return to Tapirus to look for more birds.
In terms of other things, the cabin was fine and the restaurant food was OK. For us, Tapirus Lodge was just a "first night in Costa Rica stop" before our next birding destination (so we weren't looking to be pampered or entertained). The lodge exceeded our expectations as a birding destination. We'll be back.
Once we pulled off main highway, it was unclear how to find the actual Tapirus lodge (after we checked in with the security guard). We originally thought the lodge was just off the road, but it's not, which is great in terms of safety and no traffic noise). Perhaps the security guard could provide a paper map showing how to get to the lodge/parking/restaurant area. (He probably told us, but our Spanish is poor). The lodge is actually over a mile (2 km) down a long, narrow one way jungle road (including passing over a river). After 10 minutes of driving in the rain, we assumed we had driven too far, so we turned around and went back to ask the guard for clarity. We met someone who emphasized the need to drive 2 km down the road do get there. Perhaps the lodge can share such details in advance, especially for people like us who are not part of a tour?

everything good

great location but limited activities especially in the rain. the sky tram with guide was very good but expensive. we didn’t do the zip lines as too wet.
given the size of the reserves, there could be longer walks possible.

What a magical place. we stayed for 2 nights, family of 5 with 16 and 18 year olds. We all loved the aerial tram, the kids loved the zip lines, and the wildlife was truly phenomenal. Sloth, numerous coatis, snakes, amazing bird life (including a lot of toucans, my personal favourite), and really incredible tapir sightings. Wonderful food from the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Staff were friendly and eager to help.

Amazing location in the middle of the rainforest. Very comfortable room. It was great to wake up with the sound of the jungle. The night walk was great!
Food was ok. Road 32 was closed, it would have been nice to receive a heads up before (as we had to drive two extra hours).

We could see tapir there. Breakfast was decent
The lodge is not near the highway. Need to drive further in after the gate to get there

Some of the staff were friendly, the lodges are right in the middle of nature, there's an area with snakes and frogs in terrariums and a butterfly house that you can visit for free at any time. The short hikes around the park are lovely.
Half the time i was there the wifi in the rooms didnt work so i had to take my work meetings inside my car parked next to their office where the wifi worked, defintely not what i paid for. The bathroom was not very pleasant, the room not very clean, the only restaurant around is overpriced and not very good, the attractions on site are nice but paid extra and priced for Americans, i paid $56 for the 1h aerial tram ride, i skipped the rest of the attractions because they were just as expensive or even more.

The lodges were excellent, clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful especially Marvin our nature/bird tour guide. Superb guiding. Lots of interesting animals and birds eg Tapirs, Sloths and Coatis. Restaurant was very nice, good food. A great get away from it all Lodge.

The room in the jungle was very clean and the beds comfortable. The bungalows are well equipped and the shower has warm water. The whole staff of the reception and the restaurant/ bar was extremely friendly. We booked night tour with Juan which was exceptional. Juan showed us many different animals and shared his great knowledge about them with us. He took as well the extra effort to show us and other guests different animals during daytime "for free". What a great experience!

This was a hidden gem!!! I knew about the park Braulio Carrillo, but I did not realized this lodge is right in the center of it. It was BEAUTIFUL, and I wish we had known, so we had stayed longer. It was pouring rain, yet it was so georgeous we could not resist and went on walks. Yes, at night you "heard" (in the far away distance, since the lodge is one kilometer into the rainforest from the road!) the trucks, but disguised by the incredible amount of animal noises!!!
Very close to the entrance there is a great little restaurant, "La cocina de Mami", with super friendly owners and yummy food. They went out of their way to help us find the lodge!
It is very convenient for a stop between San Jose and the Caribbean coast.
It is hard to find, but thanks to the people in "La cocina de mami", we finally did-and got delicious food from them.
This is a lodge, so do not expect all the fancies of a hotel! It is in the middle of a Rainforest reserve, so yes, the bedsheets and towels have that damp smell, but it is very, very clean, the shower is great and wow the surroundings!
