Beds were small for a man my size - 6'2" - thought from listing breakfast was included for free.

Lovely wooden house right on the water with the rapids lulling you to sleep. Very kind staff. Amazing breakfast, it was no problem to get our breakfast at 6. El Castillo itself is soooooo scenic. One of my favorite places in central america. Definitely take your time here.

Try requesting a riverside room upstairs. We had a room downstairs and we could hear everyone walking upstairs (it's a wooden house and the floor is squeaky).

El Castillo and the Hotel Luna del Río are a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the peaceful nature of Rio San Juan. The hotel is a gem. Located first row at the river, built on stelts, with swings on the porch to overlook the river. The house was renovated in 2015/16 and is kept in perfect condition. The interior is designed thoughtfully and with sense of style. The breakfast is amazing: The owner Margarita spoiled us every morning with tasty, homemade bread, local cheese, Gallo Pinto and fresh fruits. The best about the hotel are the incredibly friendly and caring owners Margarita and Manuel. They make their guest feel at home while spoiling them in the best boutique hotel manner. Thank you for a wonderful time. We will definitely recommend the place to friends and family!

Everything was perfect.

Luna hotel was just lovely! Such a luxury to have all the facilities they offer in a very remote area! The staff was super helpful and friendly. They were just people that you could tell enjoyed what they did. The hotel is small so it felt private and cosy. The location couldn’t be better with our bedroom looking to the river! I would certainly choose to stay here again !

We really enjoyed our stay here, great location for exploring the river and the Indio maiz reserve. The hotel rooms were small but very comfortable with great views of the rapids. What really made the stay were the lovely hosts who couldn't do enough to make sure we were well looked after, comfortable and ensured we made the most of our short stay. We booked our excursions with them and would highly recommend as Manuel (owner) turned out to have ridiculously good eyesight for spotting sloths, crocodiles and other interesting wildlife. Highlight of our stay was when he managed to spot and wrestle a boa constrictor during our night cruise ! Marga (owner) speaks excellent English and was invaluable in helping us organise our trips and onwards travel. Genuinely lovely fun family, we hope to return one day.
