Excellent location with wonderful views. Very helpful staff . Excellent value for dinner . 5 courses including wine and water. Vegetarian request for one guest willingly accommodated . Rooms well heated. Simple, non fussy, basic but comfortable rural rooms .

We stayed here with two adults and two children in August 2020. The hotel is located on a slope with beautiful views of the Apinine mountains (monte Vettore). The hotel has a swimming pool, which is great for relaxing enjoying the views and even more after hiking for the whole day in the hot August Italian sun. The room for four persons had a double bed in the first floor and twin beds in a rooms accessible with in-room stairs. There was a bathroom with a shower and we enjoyed the traditional original design of the room and furniture. The owner of the hotel is very friendly and working hard for his guests from breakfast till dinner (grazie mille per il zenzero). And that brings us to another fantastic experience: the dinners in the restaurant, a five course menu with traditional Italian cooking with drinks included. It is a set menu and that is no problem at all since it is all very delicious and excellent. Our children were even 'saving space' limiting snacks in the afternoon in order to enjoy dinners to the fullest extent and are still talking about it. Prices of the hotel and the dinners were very reasonable as well. In conclusion about our stay: we didn't want to leave La Citadella and now we look forward to visit again. PS This region suffered from a terrible earthquake in 2016 and you can see the detrimental effects when travelling in this area. We can only imagine the sufferings the people had to endure and still do these days.

A quirky hotel we have visited 4 times.The personality is Silvio.Great food, pool and attitude to helping with whatever you needed. Montemonaco nearby is a lovely historic village.
