We had a great experience in Hilo thanks to our wonderful stay! Easy check in process, central location, great dining recommendations. The hosts provided water fun toys for the adults and kids (snorkeling, body boards, beach towels). Only wish our stay was longer!

We were pleased with the accommodations and would consider staying there again. The location is good and neighborhood is okay. Seems like a lot of young renters. The interior of the apartment is clean and VERY functional. The beds were fine.
Hilo is rainy and muggy so there is time involved with windows open, intermittent windows closed, and running the ceiling fans is essential for comfort! AC would have been nice as the insect and street noise was significant but open windows were necessary for nighttime comfort.

This cottage was a wonderful and relaxing place for our 2-day stay in Hilo. The hosts made us feel right at home with inviting decor and homey touches as welcome gifts. Will certainly keep this place in mind if we ever come back to Hilo!

We stayed here for Merrie Monarch and it was in the perfect location, central to everything! Parking was always available, the property was clean and stocked with everything we needed. The property manager/cleaners even mailed a necklace to us that my son left behind!! We will definitely stay here again. Mahalo!!!

The cottage was charming and everything we needed for our 2 night stay. We wanted to have a relaxed visit to Volcanoes National Park (i.e. not driving to/from Kona side of island all in one day), visit a couple of waterfalls and do a zip line tour, and Whaler’s Inn was perfect. Fun decor, a well equipped kitchen, and comfortable bedding. The extra fans were very appreciated both to drown out the sounds of nature (birds/frogs) at night/early morning and to cool down the house. The house is centrally located with respect to Hilo - everything we needed was within a mile. If we come back to the area, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

Stayed here with my kids, aged 16 and 12. It was very near to downtown Hilo, about an hour to the Volcano national park. We had a good time there, the place was clean and the hosts responsive. We enjoye

A comfortable, well-equipped house close to the center of Hilo. The kitchen had everything we needed for meal preparation. The absence of air conditioning was not a problem. Open windows did allow for some street noise, but the house made us feel like we were part of the neighborhood.

I've never seen a place as wonderfully stocked as this kitchen was! It was a lovely rental for our few days in Hilo. Large and full of eco-friendly cleaning and storage options. Given that it was December and it wasn't really possible to ever close all of the windows, , I wish there had been some form of space heater, but that's about the only negative. Be prepared for frogs and if you have specific earplug needs -bring them!
I'd happily stay here again if I find myself back in Hilo.

We had a great time at this property. Everything was well thought out (extra bedding, crib for kids, stuff for cooking), and we liked the small touches like the coffee and treats. The hosts were very helpful and communicated well during the process. We would be looking to stay here again the next time we come to Hawaii!

We loved this house. It had everything we needed, even olive oil and coffee, a great washer and dryer, and amazing decor. We spent a lot of time marvelling at all the whale-themed items and choosing our favourites. The beds are very soft, our preference would be for firmer ones, but otherwise perfect for us.

A beautifully decorated apartment in Hilo. The theme was whales and there were so many beautiful ornaments--tasteful, not tacky--it was a lovely stay. The rooms were big and airy, and light-filled, all with fans...which we needed. The kitchen was well equipped, and the owner left us some local treats! It really felt like a home in Hilo. Recommended.

We were pleasantly surprised by the thoughtfulness of the owners. There was a welcome basket and the home was immaculate. Tons of room and we felt right at home. Close walking distance to downtown and all the activities we planned.

After a decade of great VRBO experiences, I guess we were due a poor one. Property seems to be managed by a Simeone, who claims to have 100+ on her books.
Story short. Had to cancel booking inside the 60 day period due to major cancellations / cost escalation with Japan Airlines. Other VRBO owners graciously moved dates or charged a cancellation fee. Simeone refused any refund. Fair enough - they were the rules.
Three weeks later Simeone chased for the balance of payment. AFTER I had paid she asked if I was still coming, then claimed she would not have taken payment if she knew. She offered a 50% refund. When I complained at the treatment, pointing out that I had told her I was cancelling 3 weeks earlier, she then recinded her refund offer & became quite abusive, claiming I knew what I had booked.
@Steve - the experience did your place no credit. I've appraised VRBO of the experience & they are taking a look.

Beautiful Home, Close to Everything
What a beautiful home!!! Recently renovated kitchen & bath as the listing says. Easy (free) parking right in front. Great communication with the hosts (thanks, Simone!) Close enough to walk downtown.
Two Notes:
One: if you’re accustomed to central A/c, this property does not have that. We only missed A/C on one humid night - the rest of the nights, it got cool enough that the fans did the trick.
Two: the “sleeper couch” isn’t an actual fold-out couch. It’s just a sectional. So - if someone plans to stay there, it’s more suited for a kid or teenager.
Overall a very, very nice property!

Very clean, lovely new shower, w/d machines. Loved all the fans in the house as I’m not a central a/c person either. The house is amazingly always cool and we visited in June! Kitchen had all the amenities you would find at home. And the host even welcomed us with some island gifts! Mahalo for a great stay!

Beautiful Home with amazing details
This home was absolutely beautiful - and the attention to detail was incredible! My sister and I couldn't get over how well the home was decorated and set up. All the amenities you could need and very tasteful at that! We hadn't researched the area overly well, so important to do that of course. But we were beyond impressed with this home!

This condo was wonderful for my family. Very great location to downtown Hilo. Property was clean, check-in and check out process super easy. Had to communicate with property owner several times during our stay in regards to plan changes but they were always prompt with communication. Highly recommend!!
