The staff and the premises

The bed was awful, hardly got any sleep. The cups to use for your tea/coffee in your room were like soup bowls. The bathroom window did not close. The traffic on the main road kept waking me up.

Friendly, great food, clean tidy rooms

Pillows were too soft for us

Bar staff was very attentive. Food was good.

Being on a crossroads was noisy. Bar toilets need updating. Family turned up late and a baby screaming most of the night so didn’t sleep at all.

Really nicely cooked breakfast served on warmed plates.

Lovely staff ! I was surprised when the breakfast was included in the price - I had expected to pay for this on top! Thank you! Really comfortable for the night.

Location was perfect for my stopover visiting customers in the area. Evening meal and breakfast were both very good. Exceeded expectations.

Our rooms were good and the breakfast was great. Dinner is standard pub fare but fine. A couple of decent real ales on tap. The staff (there are not enough of them to be frank) were very helpful and worked extremely hard to help us. In fact, on arrival, everyting was done by just one person - she was serving meals, pouring drinks, checking us in and stashing our bikes away, all at the same time! Run off her feet but she did a great job.

The location at the crossroads means that it is very noisy at night, especially if it is hot and you have the windows open. But our main grouse was regarding double vs twin rooms. Via Booking.com we asked for twin beds, if possible, and got a message back that "Your special request can be accommodated" - but it wasn't. The George only has double beds in the larger rooms. Talking to the staff at The George, they were adamant that they NEVER have twin beds, so this was a spurious message form Booking.com. Hence, we had to shell out for an extra room.
