Nestled up the hills, the property is peaceful and beautiful! We came to go side-by-siding and there was plenty of parking for our three trucks and trailers (and room for another one or two) with easy and quick access to the trails. 4 bedrooms plus loft, plenty of sleeping space for large groups. Jeff responded to messages in a timely manner, was accomodating, and just down right wonderful to work with! Our group is hopeful to stay here again!

The location and seclusion of the rental was absolutely wonderful. We were only 15 minutes from Custer and a short drive to various attractions. The area is beautiful and we all appreciated the privacy. The rental was very generously stocked with plenty of towels, blankets, games, kitchen items and anything else you can think of. The kids enjoyed playing catch and we had a very fun family baseball game. The property is surrounded by a National Forest providing wonderful hiking opportunities. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept like babies. I would absolutely rent again!

The property and cabin are a great location for a retreat or to use as a home base for exploration in the Black Hills. We had a great time and everything was as expected. The host was an excellent communicator. During our stay, we didn't get to spend as much time about the property as we planned because of great weather and all the cool things to do in the Black Hills. We wished we had more time!

All of our group of 4 couples really liked our stay. Setting on the deck in the evenings watching the wildlife come out was a highlight. The location is AWESOME as none of us like crowds and next door neighbors hootin n hollering all night. Would we stay again? YES, In a heartbeat. This cabin was a great getaway for our whole, multigenerational family to create some priceless memories. It was a great secluded location surrounded by the beauty of the black hills. The cabin offered many amenities and nothing was left unthought of by the owners. We enjoyed a day just hanging out and relaxing at the cabin playing games, hiking, and exploring the area on atvs. It is also located close to the town of Custer and Custer State Park that we could venture there all day to come back to a relaxing evening at the cabin. The property owners call it a retreat and that is absolutely true. The log cabin is in a valley surrounded by the mountains. My favorite part was sitting on the deck in the morning listening to the breeze in the trees and the water in the creek below. Plenty of games and things to do for the kids. We have 6 kids ages 16 thru 2 and they all had so much fun. They loved exploring and enjoying the land. It’s close to all the major attractions but most importantly, it’s simply beautiful. This is a busy, noisy world we live in. This place will offer peace and solitude in the beauty of the nature around.

The cabin was more than what we thought, more than enough room for 7, gorgeous views from the porch, every amenity you can think of, French Creek right by the cabin, activities for the kids.... it was great! Each year my best friend and I meet somewhere for a week to reconnect, unwind, and recharge for the rest of the year. This year we chose South Dakota to explore Badlands NP, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and other nearby activities. It was a wonderful time and frankly, another two or three days would have been ideal. I chose this property for the solitude, the beauty of the area and its’ proximity to many of the above mentioned sites. We were not disappointed! The home is FULLY STOCKED! I mean from spices to toilet paper, we had everything we needed to feel “at home”. That is exactly how we felt, the home is very well cared for and loved, which is evident from the moment you enter the home. The property is ideal for a family or even a reunion, as there are four bedrooms, and a sleeping loft that has 6 twin beds. There are two bathrooms and a full sized washer and dryer. We spent a lot of time outside in the evenings, listening to the creek. We actually cut a couple of things out of our itinerary so we could spend a full day at the cabin. We were greeted by chipmunks and squirrels daily, many birds and even a group of antelope one morning. I encourage you to consider this property if you are looking to really enjoy the area as a local and not a tourist. The cabin is about 3 miles off the main highway, so it’s about a 10 minute drive on gravel roads to arrive. I appreciate this as I live in an urban area now. Rent this home you won’t regret it!

Fantastic location with amazing views of the Black Hills. The owners are extremely responsive and helpful. You couldn’t ask for more in rental property. We had a fantastic time and hope to come back again.

I came here with my husband, sister and brother and their spouses. We did not know what to expect on the drive in. But what we saw was breathtaking. The cabin looks like a hallmark card. It was just perfect for the six of us. The beauty of the Aspen trees and forest around the cabin was breathtaking. My sister-in-law is a southern girl and has been in Florida for the past 30 years. She told me she never thought she could leave Florida but this cabin and all its beauty might have changed that. Thank you for stocking it better than any other VRBO I have been in. Everything we could possibly have wanted ( other than the food we ate ) was provided for us. We had a beautiful experience staying the cabin in the woods. Also its location is perfect for all of things to do and see in the Black Hills .

Beautiful log home in picturesque setting in the heart of the Black Hills. A short drive to many attractions and restaurants. Or enjoy hiking, star gazing or reading a good book at the cabin. Many amenities. Owner is nearby and attentive to any needs. We would definitely come again!

We had a wonderful time exploring & relaxing at a most peaceful valley of enchantment. The stars! There is plenty of room for people to gather AND be by themselves! So good!

JLR retreat did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived we had everything we needed. Cabin was beautiful, peaceful setting, and close to all attractions. This may have been the best rental we have ever had and suited our lifestyle perfectly! Thank you Jeff, it was a wonderful stay!

Words simply cannot do justice to the beauty and peace we experienced in this outstanding setting. Jeff, our host, was a joy to work with, providing us with everything we could possibly need. The cabin was, without a doubt, the best vacation spot I have ever stayed. It sits by itself, surrounded by God's bounty, yet close enough to all the touristy sites you could possibly want to experience. We had three generations of family stay there and there was plenty to do for everyone. The cabin comes with indoor games and outdoor games and activities including a tree house and swing. My grandkids were kept busy. My 82 year old mother and 81 year old aunt relaxed on the beautiful wrap around porch, reading and listening to the babbling creek nearby. The younger adults and all the kids hiked and enjoyed the vast outdoors. I would recommend this place to anyone of any age. It truly was a fabulous experience and we're hopeful it is one we will be able to experience again. God bless Jeff and his family for allowing us to share their little piece of heaven.

This cabin was amazing! It was so well stocked with everything we needed. Jeff even came down to put it he slack line up just because the kids mentioned it. The games and toys for our boys were perfect! Would definitely stay again.

Our entire family and our friends with their kids greatly enjoyed a few days at JRL Retreat. Kids loved roaming the grounds, the games and the fort, while adults enjoyed the view from the spacious deck, the campfire and the grill. The cabin was clean, very well-stocked, comfortable and beautiful - a kind of place that is lovingly built over the years, where every detail is created with comfort in mind and carries special memories. We are very grateful to Jeff for this lovely relaxing getaway and are dreaming of returning someday!

This is a quaint cabin on a beautiful property. We loved the fact that everyone got their own room and the kids sleeping loft was great. Convenient to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse.

Most peaceful and beautiful place ever! Our granddaughter loved the softball field and watching all the deer. Was so nice to sit on the deck and relax. The cabin has everything you need. Jeff is wonderful! Can’t wait to go back!

Such a wonderful cabin. And such a wonderful host. My family absolutely loved the cabin and the location. It was so quiet and peaceful. And the cabin was loaded with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. And Jeff went above and beyond making our stay the best it could be. The location of the cabin was absolutely stunning. The view from the porch every morning. The sunrises. The deer walking around while we ate breakfast and drank coffee on the porch. so realxing. so peaceful. And we enjoyed hiking the hills and climbing the rocks around the cabin. This has been the best cabin we've stayed in so far and we've been everywhere from Gatlinburg, TN to Zion Nat'l Park to Yellowstone to Lake Tahoe. I wish there I could give this place and the host a 10 star rating because I would. Because Jeff was amazing. Jeff was on top of it. Even to the point of helping us out after we had left. One of my girls had lost a little trinket souvenir and was pretty distraught about it. Jeff searched the cabin high and low and even went through the trash trying to find it. And was kind and gracious in the midst of it all. I can't say enough about the cabin and Jeff. 10 out of 10 would recommend. 10 out of 10 would stay again. Absolutely Wonderful. I can't wait to go back.

We loved the well furnished cabin and beautiful property. Everything we needed and more. Sunrises were spectacular!

It’s a dreamy place that will hold our memories for the next time- hopefully it will be an annual event! Everyone felt at home & energized by this charming, well-stocked cabin! From the yard games to the coffee set up& the sound of the babbling brook nearby- we all loved it so much!

This was the last house of 4 in our 15 day adventure that we stayed in and by far our most favorite. The outside space was just wonderful for the children. And so many outdoor activities were provided as well. Plenty of beds to choose from and a nice quiet place to retreat. We all said we would love to go back.

We had a wonderful time at this cabin. The owners provided us with everything we needed and were very responsive and great at preparing us for anything we needed to know. It made packing so much easier! From the moment we drove in we were at peace in this secluded property. There was so much to do and see right on site we ended up spending probably half our week there rather than out at other sites. We hiked, we had bonfires, we played yard games and baseball, we watched nearby cows, we picked raspberries up the hill, and the kids loved playing at the tree house, swing, and slack line. The kids could be so free and loud! The cabin was very comfortable and plenty of room for our party of 4 adults and 4 kids. It was about 15 minutes from town so build that into your plans. A great time had by all!!! We would definitely go back.

My family and friends, a very large group of people with children of various ages, stayed at this IDYLLIC countryside cabin for over a week! WE all loved every single gorgeous morning and night we spent in this relaxing, comfortable and beautiful piece of property that was not lacking for anything anyone could reasonably ask for out of a countryside cabin. Jeff has done so much work and it shows in how pleasant but also EASY a stay we had in the cabin. We had all the kitchen gear, towels, blankets, firewood and more enabling us to have a perfectly situation vacation. If you want an ideal home base location to visit EVERYTHING or ANYTHING in the Black Hills and surrounding locations you are going to be hard beat to find a better place to do it and do it right! This is an perfect cabin for large family and friend trip ran by a highly responsive, respectful and friendly host. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we hope to return next year for another stay at this location because one week wasn't enough to do everything we wanted to do in the Black Hills.

This cabin is absolutely perfect. Close to parks and hiking, but far enough out to be secluded and peaceful. There was so much to do on the property that it became so much more than a place to sleep. It draws you in and welcomes you. The kids asked to stay in and explore and play games. This ended up being their favorite part of the trip! Everything you need is at this property, games, books, campfire, hiking and plenty of room. It felt like home. The hosts were incredible and shared a book full of information about the property, shopping, restaurants and things to do. Highly recommended for families. We did not want to leave!
