This cabin was perfect for my birthday weekend away! It was super clean and fresh. Everything you need is in this cabin. The owners thought of things that I didn't know that I needed!! We had all of the comforts from home. The king size bed is super soft, almost too soft! The lake isn't as easy to get to as I would have liked. You have to walk down a path and there were parts that were pretty rocky and slippery. The cabin is located in an area that is close to the wineries and lots of hiking. We had a fun and peaceful weekend.

I couldn't have been happier with our little getaway! This house is adorable, cozy, and had everything we needed. And it was so clean!---without smelling "clean." As someone with a fragrance (chemical) sensitivity, it isn't easy to find places I can stay. Prior use of laundry fragrance and air fresheners don’t just go away. Being told that these items weren't used was clear to me because I had absolutely no issue. None. And when I saw the bar of fragrance-free soap that Denise had out for me I nearly cried. It is clear that Denise and Ken care not just about their home but their guests. (Communication with Denise prior to our stay was also easy with quick responses.) We enjoyed sitting out on the charming porch in the evening, sipping on wine and enjoying the country atmosphere. And sitting outside with a hot cup of coffee in the morning was just what I dream of. Peaceful and perfect. It was fun to watch the deer in the open field in the evening. The simple things. I felt completely relaxed and at home. The view of the lake is as beautiful as the pictures. Special note: it was a bit of a walk on a rocky path so once was enough for me. The cabin is very close to the owner’s home but that wasn’t an issue at all. It was actually comforting for me to know that if we needed anything (which we didn’t) they were close by. A getaway worth repeating!

We are busy people who do not find it easy to relax. The private lane to the property was a delight and beautiful. It was fun being greeted by the epedomy a southern gentleman who smelled so good. We were able to relax from day one and owners were most responsive to our needs. The feather laden bed was beyond amazing and the group of deers on the property were fun as it seemed they enjoyed watching us as we did them.

It was a perfect weekend with great hosts!!

We really enjoyed our stay in Goreville thanks to Denise and Ken Crews. Their rental home was perfect for us. It had everything that we needed, then a little more. It was very clean and comfortable, from the soft towels to the very comfy bedroom. The rooms were large and tastefully decorated. Ken Crews met us when we arrived. He gave us info about the area. We enjoyed our conversation with him. We thought their property was beautiful. Thanks guys!

They stay was wonderful and relaxing. Even though the cabin is next to the owners house you still feel away from people. We didnt see anyone. The cabin is a great home away from home. The owners are very responsive and willing to help! The property is beautiful and peaceful. The path to get to the lake is nicely done with gravel and is wide. It can be steep at times and uneven. Overall it was a wonderful stay!!!!

Cabin was clean and well-appointed. Location was beautiful and centrally located for our purposes. Host was accommodating with everything ready for our stay. Check in and out was easy. Deer and wildlife outside our windows with the lake just a short walk down the trail. Highly recommend!

The house sits next to the home of the owners and a pool divides the properties. I think that is important to note if you are not wanting something like that. For my daughter and I, it was fine. Another thing to note were the ants. They were fairly bad in the kitchen even with nothing but food in sealed containers left out. Before arrival, the owners were helping me prepare for check in which was very helpful! They were incredibly nice and very responsive. I asked a question on the app late at night and got a reply very quickly. The bed is very comfortable and the pull out actually is as well. The place was plenty large for the 2 of us and we enjoyed our stay.

My husband & I had such a relaxing time! Such a beautiful property! If you are looking for a place that is quiet & peaceful then this is perfect!

My husband and I just wanted a short weekend getaway. This location delivered everything we were looking for…quiet, secluded, clean, good hiking available, romantic! Would definitely recommend and hope to stay there again in the future.

We had a few unexpected days off and some family to visit in Southern Illinois. We found this place near the lake and loved it. The cabin is very clean, with comfortable furniture and a well supplied kitchen. The pans were not all chipped and scratched as is often the case with rental properties. The property is close to 57, and we were able to visit the nearby Ferne Clyffe State Park, Blue Sky winery, and do some paddle boarding on Lake of Egypt.

The cabin is very clean and spacious for two people. We enjoyed the location... which is central to the Shawnee region. Nearby there was plenty of activities including sightseeing, rolling hills, numerous small towns, small wineries. We were impressed with the region... we will be back. The only thing about the rental that was unfortunate was that the cabin was directly next to the pool of a large house. Fortunately, the owners did not use the pool during our stay. We never really saw anyone while we were there. It was very quiet. It would be great to share this information in the property listing.

Beautiful area and peaceful stay. Very close to Ferne Clyffe State Park. The home was as presented with plenty of amenities and plenty of room. Check in and out was simple and well communicated. We all enjoyed our stay.

Everything about this stay was wonderful. Check-in, communication with the hosts, the cleanliness of the place, everything. There is quick access to the lake, to a state park, and to highways, and the place is surrounded by acres of woods and fields.

The cabin was so clean you could eat off the floor! The owners provided quick and thorough information when needed. It has drivable access to Giant City State Park, Crab Orchard Lake and has its own private dock on Lake Egypt. I really enjoyed my 4 day stay.

Very comfortable and clean space, hospitable hosts (who greeted us even though we had a late arrival), timely responses to questions, and we had everything we needed (and then some). It was a great place to relax and rejuvenate!

Everything was just like the pictures at this retreat at Shawnee national forest. The hosts were very nice and the little trouble we had with the fireplace was taken care of right away. Will definitely recommend!

Clean occupancy and nice owners

This was a very clean, comfortable and cozy place to stay. It was a great location for visiting many areas of the Shawnee National Forest and the hosts gave us many recommendations of where to visit and where to eat.

Compact but spacious home. Neat and clean with acres of open land surrounding the home--very quiet. Property owners are friendly and accommodating. Convenient access to many outdoor recreation activities--hiking, biking, water.

So much nicer than staying in a hotel, I will be back, plenty of room to stretch out.

My wife and I stayed here during a mini vacation in Southern Illinois. The place was spacious and inviting and had plenty of comfortable chairs to relax in. The covered patio was especially nice during the evenings and early mornings. Definitely off the beaten path and a great place to reconnect with nature. Our hosts were very gracious and offered plenty of tips for places to visit and eat in the area. I would definitely stay here again.

My family and I were looking for a place to stay that was close to Ferne Clyffe but was larger than your typical cabin. This place delivered on everything we were looking for. Everything that we needed was supplied, from kitchen utensils to linens and an extra air mattress. We felt so comfortable staying there and the location was great for easy access to the campground. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!

Ken and Denise were excellent hosts! We flew in from Denver to attend a wedding. We needed an ironing board and Denise was able to supply one last minute. Beautiful property, beautiful views and overall a great experience! Thank you Crews’s The Diggs Family

We had a wondered stay at this property! The cabin seemed to be a reinvented pool house…but it was perfect. It’s sits just across from the owner’s home which is beautiful. Just as the pictures show the cabin is at the end of a picturesque road through the woods, with a lot of trees and space. The cabin was super clean and very comfortable. Simple, nice decor. The owners were very attentive with emails and communication to see if we needed anything. They were easy to work with! Everything you need for a getaway! We hiked some nice trails in Shawnee and had the most amazing dinner at Mary’s Restaurant in Herrin, IL. If you are looking for a peaceful place to stay in the area this is a great choice.

We absolutely loved the place. The host was so kind and very responsive to us no matter what we needed. The property is beautiful and we saw deer in the field both evenings. The snacks and bottle of wine left for us were special treats. We cannot wait until we have a chance to visit again.
