While appliance are dated, everything functioned sufficiently during our stay. Brian responsive and a good guy.

Loved the location of this home! It’s away from town , very quiet, Surrounded by forest & mountains. On the water & fabulous eagle watching !!! The house itself is comfortable , could use a few upgrades etc….. but overall very nice !!!

Great location overlooking the bay. Lots of beds, complete kitchen and laundry...everything you need. Plus the hot tub and sauna are a big plus. If you have a full house, bathrooms might be a little tight...esp if you have lots of females in your group.

This home is all about the location. The views are amazing, close to the trail and there is an EAGLE nesting on the property. Not sure it gets any cooler than that. Moring coffee and evening cocktails had a phenomenal view. Read prior reviews and think people are to harsh. Yes, the decor is older and worn but you are in Alaska and will not beat this location. Property Manager was very helpful. Quick to respond. I will say if you have 10 people the sleeping arraignments are not available. Roll out was provided but no where to really put it. Also, keep an open mind about the upstairs bathroom. Lacks privacy but has an amazing view! Thank you for sharing your home, we loved our stay.

Reviewer Comments: With no other homes in sight (other than an eagles nest in the front yard), be prepared for all the privacy you could want as you enjoy the views of the bay. We found the home to be nicely appointed with everything you would need for a restful stay or gourmet meal. The sauna and hot tub made for a nice end to the day, too! Only thing missing was room darkening window treatments. Other than that, this is the nicest vacation rental in Sitka. You can’t go wrong so book it!

But the house itself is not great. First, this is a 2 bedroom 1 bath home. What they have in the upstairs loft is an open area with crammed in beds. A bathroom with only 2 walls overlooking the rest of the house. No one is using that. No black out curtains upstairs, so the skylight over the queen bed gets that 4AM direct hit of sun. Which doesn't matter anyway, because again, it's an open space so you're getting sun from the rest of the house. The beds, linens, towels, and appliance all appear to be from the 80s. They are uncomfortable, dingy, overused. Furniture was crammed in ever corner, making it impossible to fully open several doors. The house itself was only clean superficially. Do not go searching for that lost sock under the bed, you'll be in for a dusty dirty surprise. I have also never experienced sofas so uncomfortable. This place is in desperate need of some updates and renovations. But it's Sitka, housing is at a premium. Doubt it will ever get there, and still guests will pay an arm and a leg. Just know what you're getting yourself into.

The hot tub was broken and it was not disclosed. The jet tub upstairs has broken jets and the water heater cannot accommodate the filling of the tub. When we arrived we found dirty underwear and socks upstairs in the loft. The property is advertised as a 4 bedroom but there is 2 proper bedrooms downstairs. Upstairs there is a bed in the loft with an adjoining bedroom that has an additional adjoining office type room with a small bed. You need to walk through the bedroom to get to the other room and the bathroom is open so you can hear every noise. The cleaner came mid stay to take the vacuum. The towels in the cabinet were full of dog hair and the house was not very clean. Would pay more to stay somewhere a little nicer and well kept.

Both times my wife and I and our son's family stayed while we visited our daughters family in Sitka. They have a very small house so this gives us plenty of room with great views. On a cold wet day it is a great place to drink a cup of hot coffee while reading a good book. We love the placed and will be definitely staying again.

This is a great house with amazing ocean and mountain views. It’s perfect for a family staying in Sitka. It is close to hiking trails and not far from town. Every night we would sit on chairs by the living room window and see eagles soaring and whales breaching. Truly beautiful.

Spent four beautiful days at the Golden Alaskan Lodge and we will be back!! Came to visit our daughter stationed at Air Station Sitka— and so glad we picked the Golden Alaskan Lodge as our home base. Started our mornings with coffee by the bay windows watching the bald eagles fly by. Spent the days walking around downtown Sitka and hiking to secret spots that I’m sure few tourists get to see! And after long days of hiking we would come home to our lodge on the hill and soak in the hot tub overlooking Silver Bay. Owner Brian was easily reachable and fixed one small problem right away. Also we arrived on a crazy stormy night and Brian had the house all lit up for us with the heaters on! Thanks again for everything Brian! Especially for the offer of extending our stay to include Alaska Day festivities! I have few regrets in life— but not taking you up on your offer is one of them! Would have been so worth it just for one more morning coffee looking out at the bay! Come for the views alone! You will never want to leave.

Had the most wonderful week at this house!! It had everything needed and the house had the most wonderful views. We had the luck of meeting the owner and he was very helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great week in Sitka.

This is an amazing location. The view and peace at this home is exceptional. We have seen bear, eagles and whales right from the window!

The pictures, although beautiful, do not really do this property justice. We couldn't have asked for a nicer house or location on our visit to Sitka!

My wife and I with our son's family, including grandkids shared an incredible week at the lodge. The lodge was very comfortable, quiet, fantastic views, and most relaxing porch suited for an early morning cup of coffee and a good book. Also very mesmerizing during the evening. Of course our weather all week long was great, not typical Sitka. The bike path across the street stretches from the end of the road just past the bear compound to the south and to town, nice for walking and biking. We rented bikes so biked to town, the bears, and trail heads, all convenient from the lodge. The tide pool across the street was also a great attraction for our grandkids. In bad weather the lodge would be cozy. We definitely will rent it again when we return to Sitka

This property is just like the pictures. It is a comfortable home with great views. It even comes with a pair of breeding bald eagles we enjoyed watching.

Secluded, private, clean and with a view of the mountains and ocean that is unsurpassed. Saw whales and sea lions from the great room. Enjoyed the hot tub and the outside sauna. My wife liked the inside jacuzzi. Charter fishing was great! Can't go wrong with the Golden Alaskan.

Beautiful home in a spectacular setting. Easy access to walks, hikes. On the Community Bus line to get into town or Fortress of the Bears. Host was very helpful.

This is my second stay at the Golden Alaskan Lodge and I enjoyed this trip even more than the first. The chalet is warm and spacious with wonderful views of the bay and mountains. This trip we saw sea lions in the bay and eagles perched out front. The chalet is secluded yet close enough to drive or catch a bus into Sitka. The complete kitchen makes cooking easy so we didn't have to eat all our meals in restaurants. There was plenty to do at the chalet for a relaxing evening: hot tubbing, sit around the campfire, read, do puzzles, and play board games. Brian was especially helpful in locating a fishing charter at the end of season and getting our catch of fish processed for the trip home. I hope I am lucky enough to return to Sitka and stay a third time at this wonderful chalet.
