Maria Cristina is undoubtedly a beautiful, characterful hotel. The Basque welcome from reception was really appreciated. We received a lovely glass of the local wine and the person who checked us in was so pleasant and helpful and that theme continued throughout. The reception and door staff couldn’t do enough. We had room 301. An upgrade from the garden view we had booked. A spacious room, very comfortable bed, Byredo products. On the downside there weren’t any tea / coffee making facilities! No cotton pads / buds. And worst of all no walk in shower. We had to climb over a rather dated bath! Breakfast is in a very traditional dining room which is lovely but the buffet is below average in my experience and most especially for a 5 star hotel. The coffee is horrible no matter the variation! Coffee in San Sebastián is poor generally but a very helpful guide recommended Simona (opposite Maria Cristiana) and that is here you’ll find a decent cup! The breakfast was hit and miss. I like a yoghurt and sometimes the space here they say would be empty. Location is probably the best in terms of everything you’d want to see and walk to so overall I’d recommend but a few upgrades need to be considered.

Beautiful hotel and very helpful staffs.

It is such a beautiful & luxurious hotel. we enjoyed it thoroughly. Hotel staff was able to secure a dinner reservation @11pm when we arrived late due to a train delay. And the restaurant they sent us is the our favorite in San Sebastian (Gandarias) . Our room has water view (both river and the bay).

One of my favorite properties but I think they are slowly lowering their product. Gone are the Aqua di Parma soaps in favour of a white label product. Gone is the water bottle on departure. Small things but at this level of price those are the small things that make you look for this small things elsewhere.

We were very pleased with the extremely friendly staff and the clean facilities. The hotel’s location could not have been better. There is lots of positive energy and smiles in this wonderful hotel.

Great historical styled hotel in the middle of San Sebastián. Few draw back were that there is no pool and the gym is well below par. The rooms are very nice and the service is great. Wonderful place to stay if you in San Sebastián and I would go there again.

Beautiful hotel , great staff and service

The room noise was completely unacceptable. We were given a room over the entrance and what sounds like luggage room or gym. Banging and talking made sleeping very difficult. Hotels know, or should know, their least acceptable rooms. I am Hotels Gold and Marriott Silver Elite. I paid over $700 and also requested an upgraded room. The front desk then put us in one of their least desirable rooms. I am confident we are not the first guests to have heard all the noise levels in this room and certainly the hotel should know there facilities well. Very, very disappointing for what is otherwise a wonderful and beautiful hotel. We have been traveling 4 weeks in Europe in 5 star hotels. This was our first bad experience at a hotel.
