My husband and I stayed at this hotel from the 19th to 21st July. We had a junior suite. The positives: Centrally located and within easy walking to all the main attractions. The junior suite was spacious with two large French windows looking onto the main street. There is a pool and a spa although our visit was so was short we had time to use neither. Bathrobes were provided, which is always nice . The negatives: We checked in at around 4 pm and the small foyer was chaotic. We were not shown to our room and we had to ask directions. A €200 deposit was taken. Our room while spacious was disappointing. The bed was uncomfortable the pillows were so cheap and uncomfortable that I had to go out and buy a pillow. The charging point by the bed did not work and when I tried to plug in a charger into the two port plug, the front panel fell off the plug which was usable. The bathroom was dated with the top shower not working at all. The bath towels were very thin. The fridge in the room leaked and the carpet was wet . Due to the age of the Hotel , you could hear people walking around above you. The safe was in the wardrobe but so high that the chair was needed to access the safe. All in all, I would say, the location is great. The room size was good. However, not enough care is given to things that make a stay enjoyable or memorable. Uncomfortable beds and nasty pillows ruin any stay. Lack of repair and attention to basic details is sloppy. We did not eat here!

Hotel needs updating, shower not working correctly, toilet seat broken, over priced breakfast at €25 each.

We couldn’t access WiFi in our room, and when we asked for additional assistance we were initially given a different WiFi password, but this still didn’t help. We were offered a different room, but it wasn’t as nice. We stayed in our original room the first night as we didn’t want to miss out on seeing Lille by looking at different rooms, but the next morning we asked for a room with working wifi. The man on the front desk wasn’t friendly, and was clearly annoyed that we were causing him additional work! Eventually we agreed on a room that had working WiFi (another room we saw also wouldn’t load WiFi). The new room was ok, but the shower was old and not very powerful, and the lack of a handle on the inside of the shower door meant you couldn’t close it without slamming it - all a bit odd! The small room fridges are also on the floor, which looks strange. Just overall the hotel lacks friendly front desk staff, and it’s tired and very dark and isn’t in great decorative condition. At best I’d say it should be a 3-star hotel, sadly not 4-star. Central location is good for sight-seeing. The garage attendant was a lot more friendly and helpful than the hotel staff!

Overall I liked this hotel, the central location was excellent. However, I had booked a suite as the regular rooms were fully booked and expected it therefore to be better than average. I had room 314 which smelled horribly of drains coming from the toilet and as a result I had to change rooms after the first night which was inconvenient. My friends stayed in a regular room and theirs was lovely. The staff were very helpful regarding this and the rest of the stay was good, but it was a disappointing start to a 2 night stay. The beds are super comfortable.

The property was clean and tidy and well located. We were made to feel welcome and we received some good advice on restaurants offering the local cuisine. The cultural venues we visited were all within walking distance of the hotel.

No English language tv. Everything else spot on. Particularly good bed. Slept like log better than at home.

Great hotel.

We had a great view of the town. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Coffee machine and other glasses were very clean as some hotels offer not very nice conditions. We had bathtub which was large and comfortable. We will go back again.

Very convient location. Room facilities are terrible, poor shower and cramped separate toilet.

Loved the location, very central and close to lots of amenities. Good for parking and metro station is nearby. Only issue I had was someone tried to take an unauthorised payment of €800 from my credit card at 03.30am on the day we were due to check out. My credit card contacted me to make me aware. I asked the receptionist to look into the matter and let me know. She said the only person who would have access to my details at that time was the night receptionist and would speak to him. I have not heard anything. I also emailed the hotel but have not had a response.

We stayed in a junior suite which was fantastic, comfy bed , loads of room and an amazing bath. Great view of the opera from our balcony too.

Excellent location in the heart of the old town

Hotel Carlton is located in the perfect location for your visit to Lille. It’s situated right in the old city with a commanding presence across from the opera house. The area felt very safe and was an easy walk to all the old town sites yet away from the noise of the many bars and restaurants in the central square. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable with welcoming decor and the level of details you’d expect from this class of hotel. Be sure to enjoy a drink at the panarama bar. I’ll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Lille.

The location cannot be better. Steps to anything. Breakfast very good.

Room was warm so I opened the window (lovely) but it was above the grease vent for the restaurant below. My room smelled like a chip shop. The hotel itself was beautiful. Very central. Lovely neighborhood and superb staff.

Hotel location was excellent and looks great. Disappointed that our toilet didn’t stop flushing, and a broken light. When I reported this the next day an apology was given. I also had my 40th when staying there, we told them this and I was surprised to not have this acknowledged other than a card

Beautiful and spacious rooms, kind and professional staff, located in the heart of Lille. To add to this great experience I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet ( try the pain au chocolat) and the bar for a cocktail. I will go back there for sure on my next trip to Lille.
