The hotel is advertised on hotels.com as having a gym (the main reason I booked it). Upon check in, I discovered that the gym has not been open for months. The remote control and the safe in the room were not working.

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago and had a really pleasant stay, so I decided to book again. I was a little disappointed this time however, as I noticed there was a hole under the sink with a pot noodle pot wedged in to cover the plumbing, so the backing hadn’t been properly covered. There were marks on the walls, a brown stain on one of the towels and the bath filled with water quite rapidly when showering, and wasn’t draining properly. The bed was comfortable, however I did find that the heating system disturbed me during the night as there were times the heating came on, then the aircon came on. I had this issue before but I managed to work the aircon system out, so it would be a handy tip to provide guests with instructs on the heating system so that they don’t fiddle with lots of random buttons. Aside from that, the room was very clean and spacious. I did mention this to reception, and sadly was not offered compensation as I believe almost £100 for one night, only to find a pot noodle pot as a makeshift cover was a little disappointing. This will not deter me from giving the hotel another go next time.

A bit of a late review for this first trip, however this stay was extremely pleasant and comfortable. The only issue I had was requesting a wine glass and help with the aircon system via the reception WhatsApp, but it took so long that I decided to go to the bar and get it myself and try my best to figure the system out. Reception did manage to come about 4 hours later, but this didn’t bother me as I think it was just natural human error. Overall though, the stay was extremely comfortable and staff extremely friendly.

The room itself was comfy and well laid out, however once we opened the curtains our view was of a old balcony - which was locked, which hadn't been cleaned it what seems decades. The glass partitions were smashed and the windows were absolutely filthy which was a shame as we would've had a wonderful view of the river otherwise.
We then were woken up by a fire alarm at 3am (i understand this cannot be helped) it went off for a very short time around 20 seconds, so we called the hotel on our mobile who told us this was due to a guest smoking in their room. Unsure how they managed to go to the room, investigate the cause and come back to silence the alarm within that short time frame. The fire alarm then went off again at 8am. We decided to check-out. We complained about the fire alarms upon check out the staff member stated "ahh yes 3 o'clock someone was smoking" i asked "and the 8am?" but mid-way through talking to us took a phone call on their mobile phone, put it down and hesitantly said "yeah it's normal" i asked for clarification whether they meant it was a routine alarm check? and they said "ahh yeah something like that" and picked her mobile up again to continue our call. It was awful communication and definitely added to our concerns regarding the health and safety of the hotel.
Would not feel safe staying here if there was a real fire!!

Had to pay for parking not a good point should be part of the cost of the room, the room was small but had everything we needed for the one nights stay.
Smile it costs nothing even if you don't really want to there 😊

Happy with our short stay. Room was large overlooking river, short distance into town for shopping and restaurants. Bed was soft but fine for one night. Bathroom now a shower room on the small size, not suitable for the larger person as toilet did not have enough space.

An overnight stay on the way to a family event. Ample car parking, nice room and adequate, if uninspiring, restaurant. The level of lighting in the room was very low which was fine for relaxing but inadequate for working. Hotel staff were very attentive.

Hotel was lovely, the privilege room was very nice, would definitely stay again. However access from the car park was a pain. I also paid for parking and they sold the space to someone else so I had to pay in a public car park elsewhere. They also didn't check me in when I arrived. I came back that night and they had no record of me even though my stuff was in the room and I had a key. They were friendly and helpful sorting it, but having issues in the first place was a pain.

I was told on booking that car park was included yet on arrival I was told no you have to pay another £10 for parking
Arrived 9:30pm, was told we had 30 minutes to order food before the kitchen closed. Went to what I assumed was a bar to order food, the very clueless girl working there was "not sure" whether we could still order food. We told her reception said we had until 10. She then rang the kitchen to ask if we could have food. She then asked us what we wanted, we had to explain we need a menu first? Just ordered chips in the end, no sauce, no salt, no cutlery, no side plates, nothing just a tiny bowl of chips.
Side door that led into carpark was left unlocked from saturday night until monday morning making us a bit nervous on sunday night as anybody could have wandered in.
Sunday morning our room key wouldnt let us back in, went to reception & were told this was likely because we left our keycard too close to our phones - we didnt even have our phones with us. We were able to get back in the room then. But throughout the day the keycard wouldnt let us back into the room, a further 3 times we had to go back down to reception or get a housekeeper to let us in. This morning our keycard wouldnt let us back in AGAIN. We found the head housekeeper who came with her master key to let us back in. Even that didnt work and she had to go get another key to let us in. Annoying and bizarre. Nice and clean enough tho, lovely reception & housekeeping staff

Made it all the way to the Mercure Hotel in Bedford. For a Birthday Party. Hotel at first i though was a block of Flats. But nicer inside than out. And a nice walk by the river. Situated just by the large bridge over the river. Check in was easy and got to my room and noticed that the rooms next to me the door between the two rooms was a jar and could see the person in the next room he had just checked in as well. so washed my hands in bathroom sink went down stairs and told the Receptionist about the room door problem and she got the duty manager to come and have a look then noticed my sink was blocked so had a word with the duty manager who said he would try and sort.it. When i got back from my Birthday party the Receptionist called me over to say they could not fix the sink so gave me another room. Which was good of them so well done to them. The new room was nice checked the bed for dust mites ect and was clean ish. no need to get the can of dust mite spray out. nice comfy bed. And nice bathroom was able to adjust the shower in a few seconds. Breakfast plenty to go at but like other places with infa red lamps only the Sausage in the hot range was hot Hash Browns luke warm Bacon Mushrooms and Tomatoes cold. .Two coffee machines which was good and a range of Tea bags. Toaster with thick bread Fruit Juice Cerials, Fresh Fruit, And Pastries and muffins. and Small jars of Jam Marmalade and honey which was a nice touch. Staff again at Breakfast nice. Check out easy.

There is no bottle of water in the room or minibar. They just put some coffee or tea. At least there should be a bottle of water that is being served by smaller hotels nowadays.
They removed all the phones and put an application card for any need in the room. I tried booking a taxi via this app. 30 minutes before I arrived at reception. There was no taxi, even the receptionist was unaware of my need.

This hotel is setup to accommodate commercial groups from local companies. The staff is courteous and well turned out but most seemed to be poorly trained.

When we arrived the carpark was over-filled with cars blocking entry/exit. Reception staff were not interested in helping.
Staff were contradicting each other on process for checking in making an already stressful situation worse.
Hotel bar had cashed up around 10.30pm leaving only a card payment option and then we were told the bar was closing at 11pm even though people were still drinking.
Overall the hotel was nice and food and rooms good. Some staff and their attitudes and hotel procedures need a lot of working on.

Sited by the river ouse, lovely view over the town bridge.
Only comment regarding bathroom facilities, the design has placed the toilet roll holder next to the door leaving very little room to use toilet.

Beautiful Riverside setting, my 6th floor room was big, comfortable, clean, with a great view.

Awful.
Got food poisoning in restaurant, throwing up in night. Then at 3:00am the fire alarm went off and we were on the 6th floor! Alarm stopped before we made it to the bottom.
Outer window in room was rusted open.
No tissues or hair conditioner.
No tea bags and only two milks in room.
Struggled to find staff at bar and in restaurant.

The room was not good at all. There were previous guests hair in the shower, the openable window had foil all around it to prevent it opening and the TV didn't work. The toilet also leaked (clean water thankfully) so the bathroom floor was flooded.
Breakfast was poor at best. Rubbery bacon & over cooked "fried" eggs.
The lady working behind the bar had no experience doing so and was out of her depth.
The car park was unsafe. People congregated around it and smashed bottles scattered over spaces.
Overall, it was a terrible stay and I would not recommend.

The heating control didn’t work. There was no cup or glass in the room. I could hear talking through the interconnecting door, which wasn’t locked! The duty manager knocked on my door for no apparent reason. The escape stairs were covered with detritus.
The shower was good

Stayed here while visiting family in Bedford. The hotel was sufficient for one night, though any more may have been a struggle as the room was smaller than expected. The single glazed window let a lot of noise into the room, but otherwise the room was up to a good standard. Disappointed to not have any conditioner in the bathroom. Location was good, right in the centre of Bedford. Decent sized car park which is only £5 for 24 hours, though it isn't very secure.

Having stayed at the hotel several times before over past 30 years, we were a little disappointed with our four day break. The view over the town bridge and river from seventh floor was excellent, the maid service was very consistent, and the room was spacious, bathroom quirky but fine. However, the safe was non-operational, the general decor a little tired, and reception staff not entirely welcoming, apart from Hermès. Particularly the charging for the first stay of many of £5 a night for parking was a surprise and unnecessary, especially as on one day, we were unable to access on many occasions that day because of a function at the hotel, of which were not pre-advised, and we incurred additional charges elsewhere in town. Overall, we were disappointed on this occasion, and will consider our travel arrangements elsewhere in future, sadly. We did not avail ourselves of and breakfast or other meals this time.
