Beautiful place. Food was eh… and only one restaurant was open. It was pouring when we were there, and the ceiling by our door was leaking. The hot springs and mud baths were fantastic.

The resort was everything it described and the on site restaurant was DELICIOUS. But Google maps had told us there were roads available for getting to other places but there are not! Know that once you get to Bourinquen the only way to get anywhere else is to all the way back to the main highway.

Very nice experience for a weekend scape with a family of 5. (3 kids below 9). They enjoyed the time there, in the volcanic spa, (mud and thermal pools) and also in the swiming pool and gardens

Peaceful and beautiful. Enjoyed the pool & mud bath/hot springs. Staff very welcoming & friendly. Restaurant meals were fabulous. Enjoyed hiking, horseback, and zip lining arranged through the facility. Highly recommend.

While the resort itself is quite lovely, you need to understand that it is not close to anything, with a challenging road to get there, and only one option for dinner. It is ideal if you are looking for a quiet retreat. The property is stunning - small chalet/villas dotting the hillside, overlooking the gardens, the canopy and the mountains. The villas are great - fresh and clean - with a balcony for you to sit on with your morning coffee. The pool is also great & well maintained. There is a wet bar poolside and a snack bar over the steps next to the thermal pools, mud bath. However, visitors - especially families- need to understand that the wet bar and snack bar closed at 4pm (not sure if this is because it's off season) and we could only eat dinner by reserving at the one restaurant, even though it said there were three restaurants. Food was good but once you finish dinner there is nothing more to really do, as the pools close at 8pm. This is all lovely if you are looking for peace and quiet but 3 days was too much for us.
The grounds are perfect for bird and monkey watching! A huge WOW for the ziplining which my 15 absolutely loved!
One last thing - if you are going to drive in, be warned that 15 km of uphill, unpaved road isn't for the faint of heart. Ensure you are driving a 4X4. After taking a road trip to the beaches, we couldn't imagine doing any more day trips. Overall, peace & beauty, but two days with a family, is enough.

Pros: beautiful, liked the mud baths
Cons: terrible food and terrible service in the restaurant. Expensive for what you get. They start using blowers in front of your door early in the morning. Woke up kids. Seemed unnecessary.
Beautiful property but will not be back.

It’s a great place to relax and enjoy nature and best of all disconnected from society for 3 days or more can be very relaxing and takes away stress. Great coffee every morning in your room.

The property is lovely - made up of bungalows. Wel-manicured yet in the rainforest. The staff is great and super friendly. The real only drawback is that it is in the middle of nowhere so after a couple of days, you have exhausted the activities and the menu at the restaurant.
Also, it is very hilly but you can catch a ride in one of the resort's pick up trucks.
Highly recommend the horseback riding and ziplining tour. (Reasonably priced activity too)

It’s very unique. Tucked away in the mountains and is very secluded. Beautiful and the geo thermal pools are worth checking out.

This is a great hotel for anyone that loves nature, fauna and a relaxing environment. It is the perfect place to relax, disconnect and appreciate the beauty of nature. The hotel offers different tours, and counts with a delicious included breakfast! The access the property could seem hard if you are not familiarize with open routes, some small hills and curves, but it is quite easy to sort out if you drive carefully. The reward is at the end of the road, I promise it. Since the hotel is a bit far from local dining, you better plan to eat in any of the two restaurants that the resort offers (their food is good, with a nice variety of natural fruit flavors and local produce). We love the trails, the mud bath, the pool, the horse riding and the adventure during the tours. I recommend the sunset tour. Our tour guide was Oscar, he was excellent, very knowledgeable, friendly and funny. All the staff was helpful and friendly, the lady at the front desk was really nice.
Definitely we should be back!
Great place to explore Guanacaste and if you love the forest! Pura Vida :) Thanks a lot!

Out of the way, but worth it. Beautifully landscaped grounds. Individual cabins with porches are rustic and comfortable.

Loved our stay at Borinquen! Included breakfast was excellent with great coffee. Staff were very attentive to any needs we had. Property is absolutely beautiful with lots to do and see. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her spa visit!

We loved the resort and the staff was great. My husband and fried enjoyed the waterfall walk and horseback riding. And we all loved the spa. The variety of treatments offered was great and the service was amazing. I get a few massages a month due to the issues from an auto accident and this one was a very good one. My friends loved her scrub/wrap and massage.
A few things that were not great. The road to the spa for the last 30 minutes was not only bumpy but rocky. Very uncomfortable drive. And the food was not consistently good, especially the meats. The meat was always tough and fairly tasteless. And it would have been nice to have a different menu for lunch and dinner. If you stayed there and ate all meals there for days you would not have much variety. Luckily we had a car and ventured out a few times but doing that was fairly time consuming due to the roads.

We had an amazing stay! The mud bath and thermal pools were cool. We had a couples massage in the spa. The location of the spa room was beautiful, overlooking the river. The vibe was laid back and peaceful. My only warning - don’t take side roads using Google maps. You will hit dead ends. The only route was highway 1, up through Cana Dulces. Then the road turns to gravel, for the last 30 minutes. We had a great stay!

The property is amazing! Has all the amenities and wonderful spa on site. Food was delicious!
Had to pay extra but the horseback riding, hiking to see waterfalls and zip-lining across the mountains were just out of this world experience...

Our stay at Borinquen was amazing! We saw howler monkeys, spider monkeys, white faced monkeys, agoutis, toucans and so many other birds. We encountered a Fer-de-lance snake on a night walk, so definitely use caution around the trails. I would definitely return!

Beautiful property! It’s like paradise once you finally make the drive up the questionable road. Room was beautiful and clean but pack lotion because they don’t provide it in the bathroom. Also, make sure you pack everything you need including bug spray because they don’t have anything to purchase at the hotel. We didn’t have bug spray and couldn’t buy any from them and got eaten alive! There’s nothing around the hotel either so once you are on the property you are there to stay. My kids did a fantastic zip line excursion and my daughter and I an incredible horse back ride all available at the hotel for an extra reasonable cost. It was the perfect 2 night stay before we headed to the beach!

We stayed in the junior sweets in room 504 and saw monkeys outside our porch every morning at 6:30. It was surreal and a trip I’ll never forget!

It needs to improve comfort, missing pool chairs, but more important is the fact that each cabin as a beautiful patio area and basically you can not use it, because the sitting space is so uncomfortable, has old date chair where you can not seat more than 4 minutes and rocking tables were you are insecure to leave even a glass in there.
Staff is friendly but needs more training to answer in a better way question about the property and the food. Food quality need to improve as well.

Beautiful resort, nice hot springs and mud baths. Food was acceptable, staff was great. Grounds well kept. Rooms were comfortable. I’m not a fan of flannel sheets.

Personnel at the restaurantes and bars will benefit from customer training!
Food was hit and miss.
The risotto had no flavor .
Breakfast is very good, personnel need to be more attentive to the customers, more than once we observed waitresses talking with each other in the restaurant

We absolutely loved the three nights we stayed here. The gravel mountain road up to the resort was an adventure but it was worth the hour drive from the airport. We did two different couples massages that were amazing. Enjoyed the hot springs and mud bath every day. Liked the pool and pool bar. Our tour guide for the forest hike to the waterfalls was great! Very personalized service and the staff was extremely friendly. The food at the bar & grill was excellent. Enjoyed the main restaurant too.

Save your money and time! It takes quite a drive to get to Borinquen. It's not worth the drive. The grounds and landscaping are beautiful, but the rooms, restaurant and pools need to be renovated. The staff are not very welcoming or hospitable. The restaurant manger was beyond rude with us. My order came out incorrectly, and he reprimanded me in front of the other guests. I asked for the pasta without cheese (allergic) and it came with cheese. The manager then said it was my fault and asked me to read the menu more closely. He hen shoved the menu in my face, as if I had eyesight issues. Extremely bad form. Unfortunately, when you check in to this "resort" you are stuck, there are no other restaurants or towns, within miles and miles. Your dream vacation can very quickly become a nightmare, you may feel stuck. After the restaurant incidence, we decided to check out, and left our stay early. The entire place is run down and the hot spring pools are in very poor condition. The mud area is okay, but the shower area to rinse off the mud has no hot water, so you'll have to shower in freezing cold water to rinse off. My husband and I were so excited to end our trip in Costa Rica at Borinquen, but were sadly disappointed.
