I was traveling for work and had the most peaceful and productive stay. Convenient location and simply lovely common spaces — indoor and out. The room was modest in size but comfortably appointed. I especially enjoyed the calming sounds of the fountain while sleeping and enjoying the autumnal views from the patio (pictured). Looking forward to my next stay!

I loved this place - very non-traditional compared to standard hotel operations. I gave 3 stars for service only because it's self-service - I never had any actual interaction with staff during my stay, which I was fine with. Room was comfortable, wife loved the balcony overlooking the property. A very nice change of pace.
4.7
The property is comfortable, and looks great. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and in the garden next to the water feature. The parking lot is very tight, and has just enough spots for 1 car per room. The location is very convenient with many restaurants within easy walking distance.
4.7
Love this area and have stayed in a few of the restored mansions/hotels. This one definitely is not kept up like others. Room and bathroom very small and home overall showing its age. Should have noted that room was on 3rd floor.
4.7
This is a wonderful old house turned into an inn. It was full of charm and history! The only complaints were no elevator to help get bags upstairs so pack light. And the parking lot was very small and hard to turn around in so don’t bring a big vehicle.
4.7
We were glad we had a little car that we could maneuver in the parking lot. It was a cozy room within walking distance of the Art museums so it was great for us. We appreciated the cleanliness of the entire building.
4.7
Everything was perfect except for the parking. I would HIGHLY recommend.

Great little Inn. Full of history and most importantly a very comfy bed!
4.7
Great place for my husband and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The house was quaint, comfortable and great location for walking to plaza and restaurants. The only complaint I had was that the coffee was a Keurig cup and I'm kind of a coffee snob and wasn't impressed.

The charm of this once private residence is a huge draw. The ease of parking and checking in/out is great! The bed was comfortable & the porch swing was delightful! We loved the vintage charm mixed with modern accommodations. If the carpet would get updated, this place would be perfect!
4.7
Wonderful place. We will be back!

No people on duty. Virtual checki-in No housekeeping for a two night stay. No access to main building as it was rented out to another guest.
No welcoming feel. Great location. No soap other than liquids in shower dispenser. “Urban inn”notion not fulfilled. Just a room without any services you might expect of an Inn.
4.7
I felt the property was rather gloomy. Clean enough, but looked very worn.
4.7
Great location and quality features. In walking distance to food, shopping and museums. Will definitely visit again.
4.7
There no interaction with any staff at all, no one to greet as arrived. No one to answer any questions we had.
4.7
It was cozier than the average hotel room. My opinion...mattress was too firm for me.
4.7
Overall good experience. Attention to detail could have been better. Towels seemed old and tired. Corners and baseboards noticeably dirty. Website says no breakfast but 2 cookies are included. I guess my expectation of no breakfast but cookies were entirely different.
4.7
Nice area, safe.
Tiny parking lot.
Well appointed

PRO: convenient walking distance to restaurants on The Plaza and Nelson-Atkins Art Museum
CON: no desk to work on my laptop

We stayed in the Clara and Russell Stover room on the third floor. A bit of a hike up the stairs. Nice room. Squeaky floors, but that’s part of the charm. VERY comfortable bedding.

Awesome place to stay. Everything was perfect

You see these types of places from the road and think- I'd like to go in there! These owners have kindly turned this beautiful property into a business for which you can. It is an old building with some slightly rough features, but I really enjoyed that too.
4.7
The outdoor areas were very peaceful. The room beautiful and clean. Contactless check in was something I didn’t know I would like but I did. Staff was still available through email or phone for any questions.
4.7
We absolutely loved our stay at the Southmoreland. The property is beautiful and lots of attention has been paid to make your stay comfortable. We enjoyed playing games in the common area, the coffee bar, the soft music playing while chilling on the porch swing, the easy walk to the plaza. It's in a wonderful location and everything was great from start to finish. We'll be back!

Our room was clean and extremely cozy. We loved our time here and can’t wait to come visit KC again to stay here once more!

I came to Kansas City for the art museum. This hotel is great for me as far as location goes. A bit old but well maintained. The floor is a little squeaky.
4.7
Lovely place. Convenient to the Plaza. The ongoing construction on the streets was occasionally annoying.
4.7
Nice boutique hotel accommodations. Good location for Nelson Art Gallery and other city attractions.

Really great place. Fantastic location. Charming and thoughtful in how the rooms are decorated (especially the collaboration with local artists from the Art Institute) and in all the amenities. Being mostly self service is lovely for privacy. Location can't be beat - we just stashed the car in the (tiny) parking lot and walked for the rest of the weekend. Our one quibble was with the heating in our room. It was generally too hot or too cold and we could never quite figure it out. But overall, fantastic place and we'll be back, plus tell all our friends.

We stayed in the George Kessler suite. Everything was great - a larger than expected room, two easy chairs and a fireplace. We walked to the Nelson-Adkins museum (in spite of the snow, easier than driving) and later to dinner at Rye. A fire in the stove was a pleasant end to the evening.

This place is OLD,, some people love an old 1800s establishment but not myself. My assistant made the reservations not fully paying attention and obviously it was better than sleeping in my car. The parking lot is designed for style vehicles not 21st-century trucks. The bed was lacking comfort, the TV I had to login with my own credentials to watch any shows as it was a Roku style TV. You can hear every creek throughout the house as people walked to their rooms and the walls were almost paper thin. The hot water took forever to get to the shower. If you were into early 1900s homes, this is a perfect spot for you. Turn the lights off and it would be a murder mystery type place.

We loved our stay! Parking was super convenient, the neighborhood was quiet and close to everything too! The room was really private, which we loved and you couldn’t even tell other guests were there unless you seen them in the common rooms. There were a ton of brochures of the area to-do’s and souvenir post cards too! Will definitely be staying again!

Very clean and comfortable!

Wonderful experience. I stayed in the Leroy "Satchel" Paige room - so cozy and comfortable. Loved the wood fireplace in my room, which I enjoyed using during my stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Everything was clean and well-kept. Wifi worked great. Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here and will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in KC!
4.7
I stayed in the back cottage and it was excellent. Even though the parking is tight, it is well worth the stay. It is close to places to eat and not far from the interstate. The bed is super soft and the pillows are awesome. It is more comfortable, clean, and affordable than the nearby hotels. I will be staying here again.

From the pictures in the description seems like it would be very charming. Unfortunately, it was extremely noisy. Not just street traffic but also we could hear the person upstairs the whole night. The bedframe, was noisy anytime you moved. I understand. It is an older home with wooden floors but we did not sleep well.
Also check out is at 10 AM. most places it is 11 checking out at 10 left us without many meal options on New Year’s Day.

Honestly love this place will be coming back and staying here. Everything was perfect

Good location, downstairs common areas are nice. No staff, it is a self-serve hotel. Also no breakfast. Very weird.

Omg SOOO I went only for a night but I wish I could’ve stayed longer.
Everything was so easy, the instructions, directions, even parking.
I hardly saw anyone either but I’m also a night owl LOL
