It was great

Our third visit to this hotel and as usual it was excellent. Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It’s a nice walk, mostly downhill, to the centre of Funchal or there is a frequent and reliable bus service which stops a hundred metres from the front door. Breakfast has everything you’d want and although we didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evening it was an option and there are plenty of quality and affordable restaurants nearby.

Very good experience. Kind and attentive staff. Some areas are being renovated, but it did not cause us any trouble. I only suggest that the spa be open on Sundays.

Very noisy evening entertainment in the lounge/reception area which precluded sitting there or outside on the terrace. Also neighbouring and attached restaurants had extremely loud live and recorded music which carried to the room balcony.

Great location - close to a lot of restaurants and activities. Free parking which was nice. Room was very comfortable and a good size with a lovely terrace with a view of the water. The breakfast buffet has lots of selection but the quality was definitely lacking. This hotel is clearly popular with bus tours that stay there so keep that in mind.

Excellent hotel great the best of the best highly recommended

I notified the front desk about the toilet flushing control & the noisy fan issues after my first night , I don't think anything were done. The fan was so noisy I couldn't get a good night sleep throughout my 4 nights. If I turned it off , then I could hear snoring from the next room & no air circulation in my room. The maid left a dirty towel on the hanger in the bathroom 🤔. I know it's not mine since the shape was different. I left the card for bed sheet change on the third day but nothing was changed. I need to catch an early morning flight the morning of my departure and ask for a cup of coffee @ 7a, but was told it would not be available til 7:30a. Couldn't accommodate for such a small request. First time I encountered for such service from hotels considered themselves as 4 stars and up.

Good pool, close to the restaurants, close to LIDO, live music

Nice property and upscale amenities. The view is breathtaking and the room was modern and comfy. The breakfast was great with a lot of options. I tried the seafood dinner buffet and it was disappointing, one one kind of fish with turkey and bean soup!!! Any drinks even water or coffee was an extra pay, which I find is pretty cheap for such an upscale place. Other than that personal and amenities are great.

Hotel is in a very nice location with walking distance to many attractions, shopping and dining. Hotel itself could do with a little updating with the times. There was no USB port to charge phones, luckily I had brought along a travel adapter but in this day and age all hotels should have USB plugs. There was no clock in the room, a good feature in order to set any alarms if needed and even to see the time at a glance. Asides, from these two aspects, hotel was very nice, the staff were nice and extremely helpful

Great location in the Lido area with selection of hotel restaurants, restaurants and bars. Located ideally to travel by bus, taxi to Funcal (10 minutes) or a 20-25 minute walk

The hotel was a revelation. I paid for a sea view room with a balcony and it was absolutely stunning. The views were incredible. The staff were supremely helpful and kind, always with a smile. Food was delicious and there were even gluten-free options. We used the Spa on the last day of our long weekend after a relaxing 80-minute massage. What a treat. The island is wonderful on so many levels and I would definitely go back and I’d choose the Melia Mare Madeira again. Thank you for the memories.

Not sure why Melia has 5 stars. Probaly the spar region when its open after corona. I took the hotel as it promissed ocean view and a great rooms. I paid more than 135 Euros a night. For that price you get chaeper and for sure better hotels. You can wait 20 min to get your cofe sometimes. There are so many great hotels in Fuchal and this is just an average expensive one. Not again.

The "royal suite" was very large, well appointed and clean. Service efficient and polite. Decor is understated and could be considered bland. The breakfast was disappointing and we didn't dine at the restaurants. There is plenty around, local restaurants supermarkets etc, and for practicality need to get a bus (easy) or taxi into Funchal central. Overall good value for money.

We liked the hotel in general, clean spacious room with a terrace overlooking the pool with great soundproofing....breakfast choice ,for us was a bit limited but overall ok. However we noticed people coming into breakfast with laptops and eating breakfast while surfing/working we found disconcerting and unusual for a hotel of this rating, there was a lounge on the approach to the breakfast room which they could of used prior or after dining...minor point but irritating to people on holiday. One other point ,which is valid, there is no entrance on the lower road level below the hotel for people to use to enter the hotel, intead you have to walk up a very steep road either side to gain access , whuch can be quite tough......
