Food was consistently very good with a varied choice. Fish cooked to perfection several times. Good wine list. Staff friendly helpful and hardworking. Decor in dining room was outstanding( ex Olympic first class dining room) . Very central location. Although my room was at the front of the hotel, there was very little noise at night. Room had recently been refurbished to a good standard( but see comment about bed).

Personally I found the bed a little uncomfortable and would like to see the mattress and pillows replaced Can I suggest a pillow”menu”?

There was a mix up with my reservation I booked a dinner bed and breakfast package When I checked in the front desk insisted that I hadn’t booked dinner and also the restaurant in the hotel was fully booked Luckily for me I had a copy of the reservation Bizarrely the front desk then offered 3 different dining times At dinner I noticed the dining room was virtually empty, odd on a Saturday night

Breakfast was good. The room was comfortable except for the points noted below.

Water pressure in the shower was low. Noise from the road could have been reduced if double glazing were to be installed. It was unfortunate that the coffee machine in the bar was out of order.

Lovely staff. Excellent location. Dinner was excellent value and breakfast which was included in our rate was superb.

Rooms are clean and comfortable but a little tired. Felt room was expensive for what it was but appreciate location and dining experience were excellent.

Breakfast was great. Evening meal deal was very good. Bedroom was well accommodated, good size shower room. Suggested small improvement provide fan in hot weather for upper floor rooms. Great dining room. Excellent friendly service too.

The bar area was basic but seating was comfortable.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, easy to talk to and approachable. The ground floor restaurant and bar were good with breakfast choices being extensive and of good quality.

The bedroom was very dated and tired looking. Furnishings were aged and rather shabby. The bathroom was very cold and on the first day there was no hot water. The floor was very creaky and uneven. The bed was very uncomfortable being two single beds pushed together. The mattress was very lumpy and thin with the springs sticking up so as to make any position uncomfortable. Air conditioning units outside of the window were very noisy and the main extractor fan for the kitchen was positioned directly outside of the window. All in all a very disappointing visit in respect to the comefort of the room.

Breakfast was excellent,staff helpful efficient and courteous.

The reception staff were friendly and efficient and the booking in process was smooth. The hotel is an imposing building and we were in a large room at the top of the Hotel. The Hotel has no lift so if you have a problem with stairs you need to ensure you have a room on the first floor. However I was aware of that so no problem for us.

To be honest I think the room cost is quite expensive for what it is. However, my main criticism was breakfast. The Hotel insist that you select a specific time for breakfast (fair enough) two of our company were late for that time by about 5 minutes and from that moment on I felt that the staff member who served us was unhappy. Initially I was asked if we wanted drinks and toast, I said yes to both, tea Coffee and toast. When the toast arrived it looked like it only had a passing acquaintance with the toaster, it was so pale.The ea and coffee were served in large pots (no problem) but when we came to pour the coffee it was the weakest coffee I have ever tasted. We did ask at a later stage if we could have another pot of coffee and explained why and we were told we could have one but it would be exactly the same as the one we had ! I really should have said, use less water or more coffee but the moment passed. We also asked for more toast and the waitress actually rolled her eyes but said yes. The cold breakfast buffet had run out of pastries which were not replenished. On ordering a hot breakfast the majority of the party ordered a full english, one of the party ordered Kippers and was told that if they wanted kippers it would be at least 15 minutes and the rest of the table would have to wait for the their breakfasts. I have cooked kippers myself on many occasions and can only presume the kippers were frozen ! Pay under this pressure the individual changed to a cooked breakfast. the Full english breakfast arrived. One Sausage, two small rashers of bacon, one egg, beans in a ramekin (cold) half a grilled tomato, some mushrooms. We were informed that there was no black pudding (no offer of any replacement). I have to say it is the smallest full english breakfast that I have ever been presented with in a Hotel. I really should have complained at the time but was reluctant to do so and spoil the lovely time we'd had at a wedding the previous day.
