This houseboat is a dream! It's on a quiet canal, yet it's only minutes from anything you could want to do. The views are stunning and the bedrooms are comfortable. I couldn't have dreamed of a better experience.

We stayed here for 4 nights in July. It’s a wonderful location and we loved watching the boats sail by. There were a few maintenance and housekeeping issues. Kitchen was a little dirty and dishwasher hadn’t been unloaded when we arrived. We had to wait for awhile for the host to arrive to let us in the property. Wine had to be brought the second day that was supposed to be in the houseboat. With a few more guest services this could be more welcoming. However, it was a wonderful opportunity to experience a houseboat on a canal in Amsterdam.

Great neighborhood walking distance to bus and trains. Coffee and food very close by. Houseboat was fun and a unique experience. If you have physical limitations the few stairs going down to boat are not easy and the beds were very soft. Other than those two notes we would highly recommend!

Everything about this houseboat was wonderful. It is situated on a quiet part of the canal, away from the pedestrian traffic yet a convenient walk through the Jordaan, to museums, and to Westerpark which is quite beautiful. It is even a reasonable walk to the main train station. The rooms were roomy, there are two private bathrooms, and the boat is bright and airy. We stayed there with our adult son and enjoyed the deck just off the living room to watch the happenings along the canal. The arrangements and communications were excellent. Highly recommend this property!

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful houseboat. We would love to stay here again on our next Amsterdam trip.

Usually with either of the short term stay websites, you hope you get at least 50% to 75% of what the photos might show. This property wound up nearly being at 100%! It was an amazing experience. Suzanne and Diana (managers for the owner) were VERY responsive as we planned our trip. Diana greeted us at the houseboat and was totally gracious even though we were late due to initial bad directional advice from iPhone maps.
The area - Jordaan - was perfect as it was away from the maddening Amsterdam crowds yet close enough to walk almost everywhere we wanted to go - though we made GREAT use of Tram 5. The houseboat was beautifully appointed! And what fun it was to wave at all the boats that passed in front on the canal. The boat is well anchored to the dock so there was no movement. This place deserves a 10!

A perfect place to stay. 15-20 minutes walk to most sights, great food/pubs close by (Thai food is 100m away). Quiet street is a perfect place to relax.

This property exceeded our expectations. Located in a charming and convenient Jordaan location, we had a true Amsterdam experience. The house boat was spacious, clean, and well furnished. Comfortable beds, and plenty of windows for natural light and a fresh breeze off the canal. The neighborhood is quiet, but a short walk to all that the city has to offer. While the roof of the houseboat isn’t accessible, there is a small patio off the living room that is perfect to take your morning coffee or an evening nightcap. Our hosts were lovely and the check in process was easy. Highly recommend, and will book again on our next trip to the Netherlands!

The houseboat was in a wonderful location in a great neighborhood, with big windows to watch the water and the people on the bridge. (Luckily, there were also great blinds and drapes for when we wanted to sleep, too.) The hosts were friendly and very communicative. We would love to stay here again!

We had an outstanding trip and couldn't have been happier with our accommodations. Nick was a great help getting us settled and gave us great advice about the neighborhood. The location could not be better and it was an incredible experience to stay right on the canal. Hope to stay again! Thank you!!

Lovely houseboat in a great location. Close to lots of restaurants but not too touristy. Owners helped with ttavel from airport and had someone to meet us at house to explain everything. Highly recommend

The property was magical to stay in. It was in a lovely quiet area of town but within east walking distance of all the tourist attractions you’d want. It was an extremely relaxing stay looking right onto the canal. Highly recommended.

Property is found in a quiet area, near many locals residence, coffee shops and shops around the corner. The Canal apartment offered us a wonderful canal stay with the memorable visit of the swan and birds on the canal.

The houseboat was everything you would expect from the photos and more. The neighborhood is lovely, with shopping- wine, food, coffee, clothing, etc within short walking distance, and wonderful markets where you purchase about anything! Within walking distance to just about everything- including the museum district.

Extremely pleased with this vacation rental, a jewel so close to the heart of Amsterdam. The houseboat has class, fully equipped for enjoying staying home after a busy day touring the city. Nice neighborhood close to shopping, restaurants and night life. A perfect "10" for folks that like water and want to fully experience what living in Amsterdam is like. We will come back to this place as 4 days was too short. Also, very helpful and efficient management company and owner .

The location of the property was wonderful. We were able to walk to everything and there were many good restaurants to choose from. The check in process went smoothly other than the fact that we arrived earlier than checkin time. Peter sent a taxi to pick us up however we did not realize until we arrived that we could not enter the houseboat for another 4 hours. Since it was raining we would have stayed at the airport rather than walk through town for 4 hours. The houseboat is lovely however the beds were not. The bed in the master bedroom had a foam pad on top of the mattress and there was not a top sheet. I have stayed in many places throughout Europe and I have never experienced bedding like this. The bed in the other bedroom was not that comfortable either but it did have a top sheet. The kitchen floor was sticky and I was quite surprised there was only 2 teaspoons and 2 wine glasses. You also need to read a booklet to unlock and operate the microwave. Diane and Peter were both very nice and as I mentioned the location was perfect.

What a wonderful place to retreat from the wackiness of the U.S.A! We wanted to learn Dutch and become part of the neighborhood. This house-barge really is someone's home, and it has all the comforts. We loved sitting in the living room at dawn and dusk, when the canal and bridges deserve to be painted. The local neighborhood has every amenity a visitor could want. (The informative visitor guide is among the best we have seen, but a few recommended places have closed, so check online.) We had a little difficulty with the delicate door lock, but it may have been operator error (mine), and the owner showed up in minutes to perform his manage. We want to return!

Stayed on this houseboat for a long weekend and loved it. Location is perfect. Neighborhood has a nice vibe but isn't overly crowded. Houseboat is large, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Management staff was very easy to work with and also very accommodating. I have been to Amsterdam many times and the experience on this house boat was the best yet.

Absolutely stunning with the perfect location.

The houseboat is in a great, quiet, location and is walkable to almost anywhere in the city center (with multiple cafes and shops within a block or two). The floorplan and layout made it seem much larger than it is and is very well appointed. It was as enjoyable to sit with the windows open watching the boats glide down the canal as it was to be out and about in the city. The manager was very accommodating - even to buying a toaster! The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was the softness of the mattresses - very expensive, but just too soft.

This property was exactly as represented and better than we anticipated. Everything is in great condition and is done in a lovely and tasteful manner. What you see in the photos is really what you get. We were given plenty of closet space and did not need for anything besides our own soaps and food. The property is in a perfect location - quiet yet so close to the center of everything. You can walk, bus/tram or train anywhere easily from here. Having coffee every morning on the deck (space for two) was a delight and watching the swans, ducks and coots come by was a real treat. Watching the boat traffic go by is also entertaining. People are very friendly. Two blocks from the boat is a shopping street (Harlemmerstraat) where two supermarkets, cheese shops, bakeries, restaurants, drug store, dry cleaners, hair salons, laundromat, and numerous boutiques provide everything you could need and if returning from the Central Train Station, you can pick up stuff on the way back to the boat. I would return here in a heartbeat. This was the best VRBO rental we have done and they have all been good. From booking to departure Paul and Diana were gracious and helpful. From the lovely bottle of wine we received upon arrival to info where we could find everything in the neighborhood, they were lovely. It's definitely a 'TEN'.

Staying on Sumatra Houseboat is a wonderful way to experience Amsterdam. It is tastefully decorated, well equipped and in a fantastic location. Close to the best, prettiest canals, bars and restaurants but peaceful enough not to be disturbed. Morning coffee sat on the sundeck watching the 'world' go by was bliss!
Diane and Paul were very welcoming and helpful from booking to departure... we would definitely recommend and stay again THANK YOU!!
ENJOY!!!

From the time you walk into the houseboat you know that you have made the right choice. It is truly beautiful and comfortable it has everything you need for a self-catering vacation. We received a nice bottle of wine which we enjoyed on the deck whiling watching the boats pass by. This houseboat also has plenty of closet space and large principle rooms with large windows overlooking the canal. Great views. Location is easy walking to the sights of Amsterdam old town less than 10 minute walk the furthest is the museum quarter which is 25 minutes, but the way to truly see a city is by foot. Grocery store is a couple of streets away, nice restaurants and cafes are all around you.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your property we would recommend this to family and friends.
Our rating is a 10 out of 10.

We stayed on your houseboat for 4 nights. This was our first time on a houseboat and we would definately stay again. The wine and beer was a nice welcoming touch. Diana was very helpful in her explanation of the area and the houseboat. The location of the houseboat was perfect for everything that we did. We found some great restaurants near us. The open air market on Saturday was great to walk thru. The main living area and kitchen was wonderful. The houseboat was fully stocked with most anything that you might need. The master bedroom bed's mattress dipped to the middle and the smaller bedroom did not seem like it was ready for guests. The hall bathroom was not super clean. Other than the bedrooms being average, the rest of the place was exceptional. I would recommend this place highly for one couple, not two. We enjoyed our time in Amsterdam and on the houseboat.
