Acerca de este alojamiento vacacional
Thank you for considering our recently refurbished house in Windsor for your vacation. We have personally thought through all of the amenities and hope to provide you with all the comforts of home.
As a self-catering house, you'll find everything you need for a perfect stay. You will also find our home is close to everything you could want to see and a great base for exploring the surrounding area, which has a lot to offer and is sure to make your holiday one of a kind.
Windsor has two train stations with links to London Waterloo and Paddington. Heathrow airport is approximately 10 miles away. Windsor castle is within walking distance, but some may prefer a 5 minute Taxi ride to get there. Dorney Rowing Lake was used for the 2012 Olympic Games rowing events, but if you like rowing you may prefer to venture a little further to see the Henley Royal Regatta, which takes place every year on the River Thames. Runnymede is where the Magna Carta was signed and many Royal buildings and parks are open to the public, some on special occasions only, others like the Great Park, are open to the general public all year around and are free to visit and walk around. It is here that you may see the herd of deer that roam freely around the grounds. The deer are enclosed in rutting season to protect the public, but that does not mean they are kept in small enclosures, as Windsor Great Part covers 4800 acres of historic landscapes and gardens.
Legoland is just under one mile away from our property with it's own castle made of dreams and Windsor town centre a 25 to 30 minute stroll away, which you may like to take along the banks of the River Thames, or if you prefer a 5 minute taxi ride will see you in town where you can check out the sights. You might decide to cross the pedestrian bridge over the River Thames to visit Eton, with its historical buildings and quaint shops. Eton college itself was founded by King Henry VI in 1440 and the traditional uniform of the college boys is easily recognisable due to the morning Coat, or “tailcoats” that they wear. Ascot Racecourse is 4 miles away for those who like horse racing and we also have horse racing at Royal Windsor racecourse, which on occasions has musical events and festivals that are always worth a visit. In the winter months we have the Christmas Markets in Alexander Gardens with ice skating and in Ascot there is LaplandUK which is one for children of all ages and not to be missed. Also seasonal is the pantomime at The Theatre Royal Windsor (Oh no its not!). Throughout the year, you can find plays and musical events taking place in the theatre and their website should be checked out to see what's on. It was rumoured that Queen Elizabeth the second used to go in disguise to watch plays at the theatre, but I never saw her so can't confirm whether this was true, or a marketing strategy put about by the management team. I can confirm though that she did live next door to the theatre (as well as several other buildings), as Windsor castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, having been founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. It has since been the home of 40 monarchs. Windsor castle is open to visitors throughout the year.
In Windsor there are 3 marinas along the River Thames; Windsor racecourse marina with “GOGOS” waterfront restaurant, Windsor Marina itself (no Restaurant) and Bray Marina with its Mediterranean Cuisine Restaurant.
In the village of Bray you can find “The Fat Duck” owned by Heston Blumenthal and the Roux Brothers are also based in Bray, owning “The Waterside Inn”. At Old Windsor you will find the “Oxford Blue” run by Steven Ellis.
In Taplow (Maidenhead), perched on the banks of the River Thames, is described by the company itself as being "an architectural gem of a pub, that's full of characterful, airy spaces for drinking and dining", the new Hall and Woodhouse bar and restaurant, built on the former site of an old paper mill. The cost of the latest H&W venture is £6m and they serve beers brewed by the Woodhouse family under the name of Badger brewing company and this is very popular and well worth a visit for an evening out and meal.
Windsor however also has 3 Breweries of its own, that are based in and near to the arches beneath the towns central train station. Windsor & Eton brewery, Uprising Brewery and Two Flints brewery. Most of the ales can be found in the local public houses, many of which are owned by the Windsor & Eton Brewery company.
So lots to see and do. We hope you decide to visit us and enjoy everything that Windsor and the surrounding areas have to offer.
