Sobre este casaalquiler
Casa Tranquilla: Scenic Solar and Wind Powered Home

The house is advertised. Remote for great star viewing, clean, owner responsive, etc. Our 7 and 10 year olds loved looking at all the stars each evening. Also, the road in and out wasn't bad. There are lots of roads similar throughout Terlingua and Big Bend. Our mini van was fine for this. Great visit.

We enjoyed this property so much! The views are amazing and the home is very cozy. We had everything we needed - it was very cozy ☀️🌵

Very cool house in out of the way location. Our group consisted of two adult couples. The house was beautiful and well supplied. Very clean with comfortable beds. We admired the solar and windmill supplied electrical systems. The location is drop dead beautiful sitting in a gap between two hills with spectacular views to the east and west. Awesome views of the clear night sky. Highly recommend …

The photos do not do justice to the views - which are incredible! Otherwise, the property is as advertised and there was plenty of room for us and our adult child. Everything you need to cook is in the kitchen - however, the coffee is pretty basic. If you are picky you might bring your own. I was nervous about the solar, but we stayed three nights and while it was cloudy we had no problems with power. People have commented on the road. Most of the drive is on paved road with just over 1 mile being on a graded dirt road. The driveway is a bit steep, but it certainly does not require 4 wheel drive. We have a Volvo SUV and had no worries. We will definitely return!

This property is exactly as advertised and has everything you need to feel “at home” while also being away from it all. The home offers a feel of seclusion but also makes a trip to the area very comfortable, and also has an AMAZING view in the back!
I’ve rented properties through Daryl and Janet multiple times, and they take great care of their clients and properties. This was no exception. I will be adding this home to my “favorites” in the area and will definitely look to stay here again.

Our family of four (including two teenagers) stayed here between Christmas and New Year's Eve. We were in search of the perfect place to disconnect from work and electronics and we found that perfect place in Terlingua! As Vrbo newbies, we weren't really sure what to expect but all of our expectations, plus more, were met during our stay.
From day one, Daryl and Janet were top notch communicators. There had been a few days of freeze prior to our visit that led to some plumbing issues at the house. Daryl reached out on Christmas Day to update us on the situation and Janet called as we were en route to Terlingua to let us know that everything was fixed. They must have worked round the clock to get everything repaired before our arrival which was greatly appreciated, especially with the holiday.
The views from the house and the quietness were unlike anything I had ever experienced. We enjoyed sunrises sitting on the back porch drinking coffee and amazing sunsets sitting around the propane fire pit in the front of the house. And coming from the suburbs, we loved the amazingingly clear skies. Although we spent quite a bit of time in the Big Bend state and national parks, we could easily have been satisfied just hanging out at the house.
If life ever takes us back to Big Bend and I sure hope it does, we'll be staying at Casa del Oso! Thank you, Daryl and Janet, for all that you did to make this a vacation to be remembered.

Great location to drink beer and watch the sun go down!

It is a very nice house in a very beautiful setting. The views from the front and back porches are breathtaking. We had no issues whatsoever with the solar power - just follow the directions you receive. The owner and maintenance person were wonderful and the communication was great. My only issue is the road out to the house is rougher than I was expecting but you can manage it with a normal sedan. Would be better with a more rough road ready vehicle.

This house was a great spot to relax under the stars after long days exploring and hiking Big Bend. It had everything we need, and it’s impressive how much we did not notice being in a house that’s off the grid with its amenities. Would recommend.

Terrific Terlingua!!
This property is absolutely wonderful for viewing the night sky and getting away from everyone and everything! We stayed here while hiking and sight seeing in Big Bend. We were slightly worried about being off the grid but had no issues and were perfectly able to carrying on with our normal daily route. The sunsets were gorgeous!! The directions to the house were spot on. Just make sure you arrive before sunset it gets dark in the desert!

Comfort w/Remote Beauty
I've visited the Terlingua area at least a 1/2 dozen times. If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay, in absolute remoteness, this is a great place. The house is well-furnished, with no other houses nearby. Daryl and Janet are wonderful hosts!

Great location
Great location and nice having space between neighbors. House was very clean and comfortable.
2.0
The place was very clean, neat, private and had beautiful views. We enjoyed our time both inside and outside. The Hosts always gave very quick responses in advance and right after we arrived. However, they never responded regarding the shower that I even sent a video showing the issue. Those are the positives, here are (our) negatives:
1) The last mile is on a rough dirt road, which might wreak havoc on a car (we were in a dually truck and it was really rough)
2) Taking your shower your options are: hot = a small stream coming out of the shower head; medium heat = small spray coming straight down so you stand right next to the cold/hot knobs, or tepid/lukewarm = a more normal shower spray
3) The coffee pot is a Coleman to be used over a camp stove (or stove like we used). That wouldn’t bother us except all 4 days it took 1 HOUR to perk one pot of coffee, that was enough for 3.5 mugs (their mugs were large) and it keeps dripping when you take the carafe off the burner. We understood from reading about the solar-powered house description that things that require heat take a lot of electricity, but taking an hour to get 2 cups of coffee???

Beautiful stars
This house is exactly as described and very , very clean. Kitchen very well equipped. Plenty of water supplied by owner. We very much enjoyed the views and watching sunrises, sunsets, and the stars. We downgraded the overall rating only because of the driveway. It is described as well maintained gravel drive ok for sedans. That is technically accurate but it is very washboard like so our car really shook. This bothered me a bit as I sort of baby my car. However we would stay here again and bring a different vehicle.

peaceful desert seclusion
We stayed at Casa del Oso for 4 nights in March 2021. The property is exactly as described. We enjoyed the total seclusion of this desert ranch, so quiet with beautiful mountain views. We enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing under the dark night skies. The kitchen is well stocked and we took advantage of the charcoal grill. We loved exploring the property. It is close to Terlingua and Big Bend which is why we stayed. Thanks!

Incredible remote spot
Not one, but two amazing views from this house (front and back). The house was well stocked with everything needed for our stay (we brought food). Would definitely come back.

Excellent
This is our second stay within 2 years and it was again excellent. It is very quiet and seated well away from everything else. We had ample energy to power everything we needed. Definitely book here if you enjoy a feeling of quiet and isolation...while still knowing you're not too far from the closest store or Big Bend National Park.

Casa del Oso did not disappoint!
1. Make sure you download the PDF sent by email BEFORE the trip - I didn't and we just happened to notice the 1400 sign and a house that looked similar. We saved ourselved a DAY of frustration because our guts told us to turn around. GPS does not take you to house.
2. It took some getting used to the power system. We ran out of power the first night around 1:30 am. We didn't realize we could have called for assistance at that time via the landline (didn't dial 1 then the number) - Daryl was super helpful the next morning but it was a restless night due to a storm and no power. Daryl was super responsive and helpful the entire week.
3. The 4 out of 5 on cleanliness is due to the not usable mattress on the pull out couch. It was too hot to sleep upstairs but the mattress on the couch took that option off the table too. My 19 year old son slept on the couch each night.
4. I would visit Casa del Oso again with family and friends. We loved the remote location and felt good about leaving less of a carbon footprint on our vacation.

Peaceful West Texas getaway
What a beautiful property and home out in West Texas! We absolutely loved our stay at Casa del Oso. We sat on the porch and watched the clouds move over the mountains, watched birds hopping in the ocotillo plants, enjoyed family game time, and watched the sunset over the mountains around the fire pit. The home was clean and well-appointed. We had everything we needed. Good proximity to Big Bend National Park.

Very private and secluded, just what we wanted
We loved our stay at Casa Del Oso. The views from there were amazing, especially the sunsets. You can see a billion stars and the milky way at night. We stayed over spring break with our 16 year old son and enjoyed every minute. The house was very clean. The only minor issue we really had was with the coffee maker and that was probably just our user error since it was a camp style Mr. Coffee maker. But we discovered the percolator on the counter and it was perfect. We were careful to conserve water when showering, etc. The owners provided plenty of bottled water for our use. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to others. The owners are very nice. Looking forward to our next visit.

Great stay near Big Bend National Park
We were pleased with the privacy, remoteness and gorgeous skies at night. It is well-situated in terms of great views. The house has a well-stocked kitchen and wonderful space for sharing family time. Supplies and services are a fair distance away, but easily accessible.

Outstanding
This house is literally my favorite place I have ever rented for vacation anywhere. The house itself was comfortable, plenty of space for my family of four, well equipped for cooking. The water is not potable but they supplied plenty of bottled water. The setting was absolutely stunning. It feels like you are completely alone in a vast rugged and gorgeous wilderness. There are sweeping views of the mountains, sunrise from the comfortable back porch, and sunset from the lovely front sitting area with propane fire pit. We simply could not have hoped for anything better. Drive to study Butte was about 30 minutes

Great Trip to Casa del Oso(Again)!
This was my second to stay as Casa del Oso. I rarely stay at the same VRBO/AirBNB twice as I like to try new places. But this home is an exception.
I love the views from this home, both from the front of the house by the firepit and also the back of the home which looks out over a valley.. If you are looking to get away from the rat race or traffic found in large cities like I am from(Houston), then this is the place to go to if you ever visit the Big Bend area of Texas. Very remote and basically no neighbors. Star gazing in this part of the world is beyond belief. There is basically no light pollution and you can easily see the Milky Way. I saw so many satellites I lost count.
The house is wonderfully set up with 2 bedrooms across from each other and 1 bathroom. Slept wonderfully all 3 nights. No traffic or sirens to wake me up during the night.
In the morning, nothing beats having a hot cup of coffee(maybe a small pastry alongside) and just sitting outside and appreciating the views and nature. One morning a pack of wild javelinas(pig like animals) were crossing the road down below the home. Must have been about 20 of them with several little ones tagging along.
I typically visit the Big Bend area during late October and November as I find the weather to be optimal. During the day it was in the 70s and at night it was in the 50s. Never needed to use the swamp a/c that is found in the house. Since it's on a hill, we just opened the windows and let the gentle breezes cool down the house if it felt to warm. Late afternoon/early evening was wonderful to watch the setting sun over the southwest mountains. Especially with a nice glass of wine!
In summary, a fantastic place to stay once again. Is another visit here in the works? You bet.

Home base for Big Bend
We used this place as a basecamp for hiking Big Bend. It is exactly 40 minutes from the west park entrance, so you have at least an hour drive to most of the main trailheads. That said, it was nice to have a quiet getaway with full kitchen to return to.
Would have given 5 stars but for the following:
When we woke up the first morning (well before daylight because we wanted to get into the park early), nothing worked--no lights, no water, no flushing toilet. When we reached cell service at 7:30am, we sent the property manager an email notifying them. By noon, we hadn't heard back. So we sent a text message, and called all the numbers listed (only one number let us leave a message, which sounded like the same number we sent the text to.) We didn't receive a response until after 2:30pm - in the text they let us know they were sorry they missed the messages and were trying to reach their "solar tech." We asked to be kept updated because if there was no power, we would have been forced to find alternate arrangements. But we never heard anything back on the status of things, even with multiple inquiries as the day drew to a close. Thus, we left the park a little earlier than we would have to be sure we made it back with daylight left in case we were forced to move elsewhere. When we got back, everything was working and worked fine the rest of the trip. But the unknown that day caused some stress and affected our day plans because we had no idea if we'd have power when we returned. This could have easily been avoided with some communication.
Also, watch out for rattlesnakes! We got surprised by one right under the front door.

Very relaxing getaway!!
The property was a great location for an adult getaway. The fire pit was amazing view of the stars and we saw deer and other animals. The drive to and from the park was longer than we had planned but Big Bend is just ‘big’ (and have us time to relax our legs 😊). The hilltop location offered amazing views from all sides. Beds were great and house was very clean. Kitchen was well equipped and the large supply of bottled water was very much appreciated. We had to make one call to the owners to clarify how to turn on the heaters but they quickly answered and helped. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area. Thank you !!!!

Gateway to Big Bend
We loved this property for two main reasons: (1) smooth access to Big Bend for day hiking; and (2) amazing views from the house.
The house is far enough away from the lights in town for unobstructed views of night time stargazing and warming up in front of the propane firepit. The house sits up on hill, with valley views in both directions which made for great bird watching in the mornings over a nice cup of coffee.
Definitely will re-book on our next trip back to Big Bend.

Great Getaway
The house was phenomenal. Located on a hill with a beautiful view and not too many other houses nearby or in sight. It got warm because it was June, but the house was great and we had no issues with electricity, water, etc. Would recommend and do again.
