Hotel Myosen is probably more of a backpackers setup but it suited me and my group of friends well! Just don't expect Hotel service, but for the price and location we were stoked! We all shared the traditional tatami room, it was pretty cosy like a big sleep over but we are a close group of friends and enjoyed it! The onsen was amazing and we loved using if after riding all day, the location is unbeatable and was the main attraction for our group including the affordable price.
We messaged ahead to ask about making reservations at restaurants in advance so we didn't miss out and were told not to worry but once we arrived we found out that reservations at most of the places in town are necessary so definantly book ahead for restaurants if you want to avoid walking around in the cold!

The owner was super friendly and helpful. Location was great, close to ski slopes and many restaurants nearby. The onsen was well maintained, always a plus after a long day of skiing.

The quality of the onsen within the hotel itself was superb. Truly an excellent way to finish a day on the slopes. And the location of the hotel is great. Very easy to access the ski slopes or nearby restaurants within a five minute walk. The staff were also very kind and welcoming.
If you stay in the dorm-style room, the lack of space can be mildly vexing. There is very little to no space for luggage or moving/changing in the room. Additionally, the bathrooms from the dorm room are very far away (on a different floor of the building)

The location is great! It is in walking distance to ski lift and local restaurants. We enjoyed the hotel breakfast and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean. The hotel has great facilities, including a large drying room and onsens.

I didn’t like how there are no locks on the doors.

Had a great stay here while enjoying snowboarding in Myoko. The location was great, close to the main street with a lot of food options to take advantage of (recommend making a booking if you can). The onsen was a great way to relax, with private bookings available - noting that the showers are located within the onsen so for a private shower it is recommended to make a booking. Breakfast was amazing - bacon, eggs, sausages and mushrooms as well as cereal and porridge plus more. The room was sufficient in size for three people, but I think you would struggle trying to fit more than three. Overall, a great trip and place to stay!

I've had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Myosen multiple times and it never disappoints. The owner, Susan, is a gem and always goes out of her way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms are consistently clean and cozy, offering a unique Japanese-style accommodation experience that might be different from what one is used to in western hotels, especially in ski areas. Keep in mind that shower, bathroom, and toilet facilities are generally shared.
In addition to the great amenities, Hotel Myosen is also excellently located just off the Main Street. It's an easy walk to the Akakura Onsen ski area and busses, making it a convenient choice for those looking to hit the slopes without having to worry about transportation. Personally, I love staying in the Japanese Ryokan-style rooms with futons - they're surprisingly comfortable and perfect for winding down after a day on the slopes. Overall, Hotel Myosen is a great choice for those looking for a cozy and authentic Japanese hotel experience.

Loved the Japanese Tatami room, it was spacious and adequate room to store all our bits and pieces. I was a bit unsure about sharing a shower / toilet etc but if you don’t indulge in the Hotel Onsen every night you’re missing out! The Onsen is a great way to recover from a big day on the slopes. So a private bathroom / toilet a bit overrated in a country where Onsens are so prevalent. The staff; Susan and Nick are attentive and always ready to help with info, loved the casual atmosphere and we met great people there that we ended up skiing with and dining with during our stay.
Its a very practical, well facilitated Hotel - if you’re looking for 5-Star fine dining etc this isn’t the place but if you want good atmosphere, the ability to meet & mingle with other travellers, this is a good place to start.

Room was very spacious and well laid out. Onsen facilities were nice and everything was clean. The Hotel was in a great location, near the main street and an easy walk to both lifts to access the mountain.

The communication with Susan was impeccable be it via email/what’s app or in person. She always ensured we were looked after without being intrusive.
The facilities were clean, warm and comfortable, and having an ensuite was a luxury, when there is an onsen on site (recovery must!). Though storage seems tight, we were able to store away 5 peoples’ luggage! There was also a simple line to hang up clothes etc in addition to the closet.
The wifi was good and having Netflix certainly saved our sanity on rainy rest days. The dry room was roomy, though if you have kids, do yourself a favour and leave them at your rental place if possible (the walk is closer for your kids to take to the lifts!)
The western buffet breakfast was generous (eggs, bacon, Frankfurts, toast, cereal and porridge). But the location was the best being a 5 minute walk from Onsen lifts, bus stop and Main Street.
The onsen was awesome, though a cold pool would’ve made it incredible! A shuttle service would be handy (but Susan said she’s already onto that!)

Stayed in the western room, the king bed was very comfortable. It was convenient to have our own ensuite bathroom and we enjoyed the Netflix.

We stayed in the Superior King Room and didn't want to leave! Really comfortable big bed, awesome pillows, spacious room and a fantastic steaming hot shower!! We meant to use the onsen a lot more but found ourselves diving into the shower in our room every night. You can also book a private 1/2 hour onsen time at the front desk which is very thoughtful. Easy to use ski/board storage room and the gear drying room had great shelf space assigned to your room number. Great location, friendliest staff, will definitely be staying here again.
