I will start off with the few positives about our stay.. great location and the host did let us check in early. Other than the two positives, I would not recommend staying at this property. The communication from the host was awful from the beginning—they mixed up our reservation dates, which caused a lot of confusion and stress. Once we arrived, things only got worse. The place was infested with ants; they were everywhere, including in our food and even got inside our luggage. To make matters worse, there was no air conditioning, making the stay uncomfortable, especially during the hot days. We anticipated Wi-Fi ( as everywhere I have ever stayed accommodated this) and then was told they do not provide it, and all the TVs in each room did not work.
To top it all off, the host had the nerve to charge us extra for getting WHITE towels dirty—something that happens naturally when you're staying somewhere!
The location was the only redeeming quality, but that wasn't enough to make up for the poor experience overall.
Stay somewhere else if you can.

Wonderful location; easy walk to most activities.
It has the basics, but nothing to make you feel welcome/at home. We would have appreciated a book with local recommendations as well as instructions for using the grill, fans, tv, etc. It’s the little things that help make us feel welcome or not: such as kitchen was not stocked for actual meal preparation (no cutting board, only one knife besides the table knives, minimal storage or serving bowls, etc.). The kitchen sponges were nasty looking; new individually wrapped ones would go a long way….or at least having a dish cloth. The auto start on the BBQ grill is not working and requires matches or a lighter which are not provided. The manager told us to purchase some if we wanted to use it; we left our lighter for the next guests. Some blankets to use while resting on the couches would be inviting us to curl up and relax. And it was very HOT; there is no a/c so it would have been nice to have the windows open and the fans running in anticipation of our arrival. Luggage storage is crazy expensive at the dock; despite what some reviewers noted, we were told that we could not use the patio to store our bags either before official check in or after check out. The remote did not work for one of the lights/fans so we kept having to switch the working battery into the remote we needed. And there were crumbs/hair in the upstairs drawers. Despite these “little things” with realistic expectations, we would stay again.

Location was great. Unit was a good match for our needs. Comfortable furniture. Very clean.
However, there was no face cloths,paper towels,tissues,toilet paper,washing soap and bath mats. There were two cracked wine glasses.
No end tables in downstairs bedroom or next to couch in living room. The caretaker Eric was good. And the owner did respond with a delivery of missing linen. Overall had a good time and enjoyed this condo after we purchased needed items.

The house was spacious but was lacking a few things to make me be able to rate it higher. For a property that sleeps 8, the kitchen was not well stocked for utensils, cookware, tableware etc. There was no cutting board and the kitchen counters were tile. If you don’t plan on using the kitchen much it would have been fine

Everything about this property was perfect and we hope to stay again and get the front unit as well for the rest of our family. We loved the location and not having to climb up the hill from town which we’ve done in the past (Metropole, Whittley) and it’s so close to Vons. It was super clean and spacious with comfortable beds and lots of towels and extra linens. The manager was incredibly accommodating allowing us to check in early and Eric, the caretaker was so friendly and kind! I messaged him to ask if we could leave our luggage at the property for a few hours on the day we were leaving and he called me to say it was okay and gave me great restaurant recommendations and tips for future travel to Catalina. Only downside to this property was the lack of internet wifi but not a deal breaker.

The house was nice and big . We had a great stay. There was a few things that we were not a fan of. Usually there are napkins or paper towels but we had to go buy some. There was no soap at all in the showers just hand soap, so we had to go buy all that stuff. The master bed was very uncomfortable and you would just sink in when you would sit on it. Also was very loud getting on and off. We were not a fan of having to wash our own dishes and put away because we are just relying on the people before to wash the dishes and I don’t think that’s very sanitary.

This property was beautiful! Very spacious and aestheically appealing. Located at a very walkable distance from everything. The property was equipt with a variety of appliances and furniture, including a grill outside! However we did have a hassle turning it on so we decided not to use anymore. Other than that everything was amazing!

The house is nice and in a very convenient location. Communication with the owner was frustrating. She didn't respond in a timely fashion. When she responded, it went very well. I didn't have the check-in information and finally had to contact VRBPO the day before we were to arrive.

Quiet location and comfortable beds/pillows. There's no ac, but the property had a bunch of fans and it's safe to leave the windows and sliding doors open at night. Only issues we had were that the silver wears were dirty. Definitely wash it yourself so that you know it's clean, or just use plastic utensils. There were more ants upstairs than downstairs. And we ended up having some stowaways in our luggage. It was bothersome having to try and get to the back when the front unit has their windows open all the way out

Would have appreciated more on time response from owner—sent messages but VRBO had to contact her since she did not respond to questions. Once she did, response in time. Appreciated comments from previous renter about faucets and end of beds that can hurt your leg. Appreciated beach toys. Von within walking distance which was great!

Location is awesome, Amy (Karen of property owners) horrible.
Stay went well, would not have complained until owner decided to be a Karen. Amy emailed me a week after we checked out complaining we broke her shower valves, all while stating she just had everything replaced prior to our stay. (Sounds like shotty plumbing work to me) Valves were broke upon our arrival, but being a handy guy I showed my guests how to use in the mean time and did not complain. While staying there also fixed her surround sound that was not wired, fixed her DVD player that lacked the proper cables, never could figure out the direct tv that didn’t work, and purchased our own batteries for the fan remote that someone decided they needed more. Would have been a 4 star stay until the accusations starting flying, but here we are, don’t throw rocks in a glass house. And find a new rental if you want a perfect stay.

Beds/mattresses ..absolutely awful!!! Need new ones. Dining chair & couch/ old stains, need to update. Shower upstairs, faucets broken; water dripping. Great location but definitely not worth the money we paid

We had a great time. The location is perfect - far enough away from the crowds and close enough to get anywhere within minutes. We will be back next summer!!

Many of the furnitures were metal and in poor condition. The dining table had rust. I hated the bed frame in the master bedroom because it was metal and stuck out on the side. My wife and I bumped into the edge of the frame so many times. We had to wear close-toe shoes in the bedroom to avoid fracturing our toes. The TV never worked for us. There was no Wi-Fi in the house. The shower leaked water. The only good thing about the house is the location. It was close to the only supermarket on the island.

It's hard to find new and modern rentals with all the special touches like this on Catalina. Our VIP guests loved the space and extra amenities this unit offered. It's in walking distance to everything! The communication from the property management was flawless and immediate. Thank you for taking care of us.

It was very comfortable and private. We loved the stay. Especially how we were always answered by the owner and she was so amazing, comprehensible and helpful at all times. Thank you

The property is well located, clean and quiet. The only thing I would suggest is grab bars for the tub showers. The 70+ members of our group were nervous getting in and out of the tubs. The downstairs bathroom had a leaky faucet the plumber didn't get fixed and a slight wobble on the toilet.

The unit could be good if it would be properly maintained. There were a number of things that were broken or did not work: jets in the tub, locks on screen doors, night table lamp, blinds in the bunk room and flusher on one toilet. The oven needs cleaning. There were also some ants in the kitchen and on the dining room table.
Communication with the property owner also needs to be better as it takes way too long for a response (much more than 24 hours) or there is no response at all.
I hope these issues are remedied because it would be a good place to stay in Catalina as the location and the space are fine.

Good location, nice size rental. We were disappointed in rickety top bunk bed, awkward bed frame/placement in downstairs bedroom, overly high master showerhead and very dirty patio. As Avalon rentals go, the good outweighed the bad, but some improvements could make this an exceptional experience.

I didn't realize that there were two houuses attached and we were in the back house. Maybe my fault for not seeing that information. The front house was rented and though they were good neighbors, with their windows open we were unable to walk to our unit and had to ask that the close the windows each time.
The unit itself needs some TLC, especaially in the bathrooms. There was alot of black stuff behind the toilet on the lower level and lots of baseboard chipping. The doenstairs bedroom window only opened partially and was off the hinges and the other side did not open at all.
Upstairs in one of the bedrooms the same.
There was dirty rags left under the bathroom sink, I assume we were suppose to use them to clean. The kitchen had used sponges under the sink with nothing but paper towels to clean with.
Would have been great to have a new sponge, a small bar of soap, a box of tissues.
We did not use the patio.
On a positive note, it was a easy walk to town, the Vons is steps away, easy to get to hiking trails. There is adequate room for 6 adults, even with the use of bunks.

Everything was within walking distance, even for me who is not accustomed to being without my car and can’t walk far. This made my Catalina weekend super enjoyable and carefree. Coming back to this property next time I come. See you soon

The upstairs room was hot (90 degrees) my 2 teen have to slept on the couch. And downstairs bathroom toilet flash leaked every time you flashed and need to fix ASAP. The area all soaked up on drywall.
The master bedroom nightstand on the bottom left drawer have a pair of dirty socks, micro USB and 2 bags of the green powders(unknown powder). I don’t know what to say for the cleaning lady. Other than that the location was great.

I have stayed at this property many times. It is by far the nicest and well kept duplex on the Island. The owner is great and the caretaker Eric is always available and checks in periodically to make sure we are having a great time. I recommend this place to anyone even if you only have 4 guests like I did as the price is also very reasonable. The front and back houses are the same so you always know what your getting at either one.
