We had a wonderful time staying at Maria’s place in Obidos. It’s a cozy, updated house that we learned has been in the family for many years. It’s perfectly located inside the walls of the city providing access to this historic place. Maria communicated with us from the start and met us outside the city walls. She showed us where to park and then drove us through the narrow and steep streets to the house. She even had a bottle of wine waiting for us upon arrival. Would definitely stay here again.

Maria was a great host. She communicated from the beginning of the booking until the end. She arranged to meet us at a local bank and escort us to the apartment and show us where to park "outside" the wall. Maria was helpful in giving advice for places to go….clearly she loves Obidos and the surrounding area. The apartment is nice and a bit quirky. Lovely touches, flowers and a bottle of wine to greet us. I must add that we were a little disappointed when the nice outside sitting area was not as shown in the listing. Maria explained that it was under construction, but to us, it looked as if it had been under construction for a while. We would recommend Maria's place and would recommend staying in Obidos.

Positives: Very interesting environment. Lots of history and culture. Lots to see. Good, and some very good, restaurants. Some shopping. Good base for exploration of surrounding areas and communities. Property was perfectly located. Negatives: Obidos is very busy. Large crowds and lots of tourists, essentially every day. Morning until night. Property standard was OK. Communication with the host was rapid and efficient some times, but other times it was non existent. Overall rating: OK - good

Four adults traveled and stayed. Overall, we enjoyed our stay as it was cool to stay in a castle and walk around it. Plenty of restaurants and shops within the castle. Owner was very attentive and lives right next-door to the house. As expected, the roads were narrow and didn’t allow us to park close to the house. Rather we parked behind a bank across the street. If anyone struggles with walking especially on cobblestones, this would not be a good place to stay for you. Also, we stayed while Portugal was having a heat wave (temps over 100F). It was muggy and tough to sleep through the hot temperatures without air-conditioning. I imagine that on a day with temps in the 80s, this would not be an issue.

We were so fortunate to have found Maria and her picture perfect apartment in the medieval walled town of Obidos, Portugal. We were comfortable and taken in by the lovely home and natural setting. We were taken back in time yet had all the modern conveniences. The location on an out of the way side street was a quiet haven , yet only a few minutes walk from all the shops and restaurants. Maria was so helpful getting us settled, and our three days spent there stroll seem like a dream. Narrow, cobblestone streets, a medieval castle and a walk around the entire town from the top of the ancient wall are part of your everyday stay. Flowers grow all over the ancient walls. Do not hesitate to spend time in her beautiful home.

You were so kind with all your preparations and advice on restaurants etc. We felt totally at home and cosy and were amazed how peaceful and quiet it was even though it’s in the centre of Obidos. Lovely apartment in medieval Obidos. Very quaint and comfortable. The property owner was very helpful, guiding us to the apartment, and help directing us out. The apartment has everything you need! Obidos is a beautiful city with its charm still intact. It really is a story book picture right out of the Middle Ages. That said, driving into the city is not for the faint of heart. The streets (if you can call them that) are extremely narrow better fit for donkey cart and not the family roadster. Do not rent a SUV and expect to drive to the front door (we rented subcompact and it was close at times). You are best off parking just outside the city in one of the parking lots. Maria was gracious enough to have a colleague meet us at the local bank and lead us to the house. Again, the entrance into Obidos are very, very narrow. But once you’re in, it is beautiful place to wonder around for hours, and enjoy the sights.

Loved our hostess, Maria! She is very friendly and helpful. The town is beautiful and easy to get around by walking. We would definitely visit here again!

We are a family of 4 from Australia who stayed in the beautiful house for 7 nights. Obidos is magical, Maria is very helpful and the house is set up perfectly. Elle

The apartment was very pretty, comfortable and clean with lots of space for luggage etc. The location was superb, very close to restaurants but quiet since it was not on one of the very busy tourist streets. Maria was very helpful, meeting us and leading us to where to park, and then to the apartment. Only one small suggestion - while the kitchen was very well equipped, we would suggest a french press to have when there are multiple coffee drinkers.

This lovely home inside the walls of Obidos was built by Maria's father, and you can tell it means so much to her. She has put her heart into making this home welcoming to her guests; there is absolutely everything you need for an amazing stay. We highly recommend!!

Nous gardons un très agréable souvenir de la maison de Maria et d'Obidos. Nous y sommes arrivés un peu tard dans la soirée et c'est très spontanément que Maria est allée nous faire quelques courses pour le petit déjeuner. La maison est calme, très propre, confortable (nous y étions à 5, 2 adultes et 3 enfants) et joliment décorée. Maria est une propriétaire très discrète mais aussi très attentionnée et disponible si besoin et de bon conseil pour découvrir la région.

We had such a wonderful stay in Obidos, truly a gem in Portugal. Maria and her family (and friends!) were so much fun to meet and were so helpful with parking the car, giving advice for restaurants and telling us about places to go in Portugal. We would come back to visit again any time of year. And the house was so comfortable and quiet and beautifully appointed. Obregada!

Extremely friendly reception by the delightful Maria, into her v lovely home, which was spacious , beautifully decorated and very conveniently located. Despite it being a tourist town the house was v quiet. Had a great meal at the unassumingly named 'snack bar' next to the mausoleum- like church outside town. Portuguese clientele, good food and v reasonable price.

Outside was crowds of tourist but we lived in calm and relaxation. There is very good collection of DVD and books, we watched a lot of good movies in English and I was very sad that I don't read in Portuguese. Obidos is charming town and has a lot of beach nearby. We like it very much!

"Óbidos es un lugar realmente tranquilo por la noche y la accesibilidad de la casa es buena teniendo en cuenta que estas dentro del recinto amurallado. Se pueden realizar muchas excursiones en distancias inferiores a 75Km que incluyen Lisboa, Sintra, Estoril y varios monasterios importantes. La playa de Badeal está a menos de 20 minutos, la playa es muy limpia y de aparcamiento sencillo, muy buena para familias. Por otro lado María do Carmo, la propietaria, es realmente encantadora. Nosotros hemos estado muy muy bien."

La seule contrainte (petite!)est de ne pas avoir un véhicule de trop grande taille,à cause des ruelles et de l'enceinte,ou bien alors de la garer à l'extérieur de l'enceinte,juste à quelques minutes à pied."

"Appartement propre et bien rangé. Village sans voitures, donc calme, seuls les piétons et leurs discussions sont audibles. Vue depuis la chambre sur les toits d'Obidos, vue depuis le salon sur une cour intérieure (avec végétaux). Equipement correct en bon état de marche (nous n'avons pas utilisé le four). Accès à pied préférable, car il vaut mieux un guide pour arriver en voiture (accès autorisé aux résidents) !!! De nombreux parkings aux porte du village."
