This is a nice, large property with good accomodations. Located on the beach and overlooking the ocean. Lots to do on the North Shore including the nearby town of Haleiwa with lots of food trucks, beaches, snorkling, turtle watching, surfing. Very friendly people in town and the caretakers were great! Price was very competitive for a 30-day stay.

This is a town-home type residence with stairs to the first floor (2 large bedrooms) and stairs to the second floor (1 large primary and 1 extra-large primary). There is plenty of space for a large family or several families. The kitchen is well-equipped and has lots of beach equipment. We didn't mind the geckos, etc. roaming around because we wanted to stay in a Hawaiian home in a quiet area. The residence is a duplex and the neighbors were friendly. We did not see them until the last few days of our 10-day stay.
Our favorite local eating included Spaghettini's and Farm-to-Barn. Both were outdoor seating only.
We drove every day to various points on the entire island and the drive was typically 45-60 minutes which was great for us!
Waking up to the view and sound of the ocean was nice. We did not use the beach and opted for the pool and hot tub instead of the beach.

Beach and ocean just outside your backyard... it was lovely!
House was roomy for our 8 member family and had everything we needed for fun family meals together on the deck!
Haleiwa was 5 min. away and close to big surfing beaches and fun/interesting places like Waimea Valley and Pirates Cove...
Manager was very friendly. Brought us fresh picked papaya!

We had an amazing time here at, Hale Makamaka! This property is in the perfect location, directly on the beach and right next to Haleiwa. The pool table and ping pong table offered entertainment and kept our 4 teens busy whilst we hung out at the house during our down time.
While there was no air conditioning, the pool offers a way to cool down and was surprisingly refreshing. There are ceiling fans in all rooms as well as rotating fans which allowed for comfortable sleeping conditions at night. The provided coolers, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, beach towels, boogie boards, water shoes and snorkel gear for guests to use made going to the beach easy. The owners of the house were fabulous to correspond with and the caretaker, Noah, was great too.

This house was perfect for our group and very comfortable. The caretakers are great and very helpful. The game room is a big plus.

Can’t say enough about how great our stay was. The owners were very accommodating, they even brought by additional items for the baby and just to make sure we were good.
If I go back to Oahu I’ll definitely be staying here again…5 stars 😊🙌!

The house was exactly as shown in the photos, large, comfortable, very fully equipped, facing the sea, but with old furniture and bedding, pillows, as well as the bathrooms (but towels were great!!!). I also didn't quite understand that the house was attached with another house (same house divided, though neighbors were very nice)... But despite all that we had a great experience. Also, all the prices for better houses on Oahu were very high...I think it was the best option and at the end we were all very pleased! I am very grateful with the owners, you have a lovely place!

This property was perfect for our extended family group of 10. Plenty of space so that we did not feel cramped. Everything was as expected and the beach, pool, and house location were perfect! The only minor issue was that there was no AC which made for a slightly warm house in the late afternoon, even with the trade winds blowing. This made it a little difficult for my Dad (74 yrs old) and stepmom to cool down after activities during the day. The bedrooms all had fans, though, and none of us felt hot as we slept.
Ashley, Noah, and Isla were amazing! Anything we needed or any issue we had, they were quick to help us. My Dad grew up in the area, and they were more than happy to answer all his questions about how the area had changed. They were very gracious, and never rushed any conversation we had with them. My daughter wanted to nanny for them so that she could stay and hang out with Isla. They also had great suggestions for things to do or where to find items we might be looking for.
This was a memorable family trip that allowed my Dad to share where he grew up with his entire family! We would definitely be happy to stay here again!
Mahalo nui loa Hale Makamaka group!

We will return to this property when we are in Oahu
The house is exactly as pictured. It was clean, spacious and supplied all that was needed. Visitors really just need personal items and clothes. We spent most evenings on the deck in the listing photo. The pool and hot tub were used a lot and the game room had a constant flow of our kids playing pool and ping pong. The kitchen was stocked with all utensils and cook ware needed. Extra supplies (trash bags, paper towels, TP, etc...) was provided, We needed nothing additional for a 10 day stay. Fans on and windows open are necessary as there is no A/C unit in the home. It was not an issue for our July stay.
When staying here, do yourself the pleasure to meet Joe and Vicki (care takers) and Noah and Ashley (owners). They are the nicest, kindest individuals we could have been lucky enough to be next door to.. Overall, everyone we came across on Oahu was kind. It was contagious. Voted the best family vacation we have taken so far.

The property had a quick access to the beach, all of the kitchenware needed for cooking, and plenty of room for our family of 7. The caretakers were friendly and very helpful. In summary, it was the perfect place for us.

Our family (grandparents and their children’s families) had a great time staying here. The layout actually worked really well for us since all of the children were under 10 and no minded sharing a room with their parents. All families got their own bathroom and enough space to spread out. The large lawn between the house and the beach was ideal for the kids to play safely. We appreciated all the child safety items (child lock on deck, gates at top of stairs, etc). The surf was still a bit too large for our kids to swim directly in front of the house. But walking west on the beach found a calmer area they could enjoy. Plus there was a great beach 5min west that was good for kid swimming and snorkeling with turtles. We really like being away from the touristy areas and how close Haleiwa is to the home. For anyone with mobility considerations, there is a flight of stairs to the living area and a second set to the master bedrooms. Additionally the laundry is down under the unit, so more stairs. The only negatives for us were the hot tub didn’t seem like it was recently cleaned/maintained, had a funny small that wasn’t chemicals, some dust bunnies that should have been captured under beds, and the laundry being shared/outside the main living area. These wouldn’t be enough to deter us from coming again though. The caretaker was incredibly nice and we didn’t even realize he was there until the 3rd or 4th day. He brought us a pie on Christmas Eve from a bakery we had been wanting to get to. He also graciously accepted our excess mahi-mahi we caught and couldn’t finish before leaving. 🙂 Overall, we were very happy and would recommend this place.

The house and location were just right for our family. The house is lovely and easily accommodated our group of 7. And 10 people would not be crowded. The kitchen had everything we needed and more and it was great to be able to all sit together at the big dining table. We saw lots of whales from the beach and from the deck. Confident swimmers will do fine at the beach right in front of the house and other lovely beaches are easy to get to. Waialua is walkable and Haleiwa is a quick drive.
Our hosts Noah and Ashley were so pleasant and helpful, we could tell it was important to them that we had a good experience.

Our stay here was so relaxing. We felt so at home and at peace. Never once did the kids in our group, who ranged from 17-11 years old, ever feel bored or at a lack of something to do, as well as all us adults! Hawaii life was at our fingers tips from the moment we woke to the moment we went to sleep. The hot tub was so nice as well as the pool although it is showing it’s age and could for sure use some updating. The home itself was laid out nicely but could also use some updating and some dusting. The caretakers who live on property were extremely friendly and so helpful to us! It was a vacation to remember and so happy we got to enjoy! All in all our stay was a 5/5. Thank you Hale Makamaka for the memories!

Family of 9 celebrating our granddaughter's college graduation
We all so enjoyed our 10 days at the Hale Makamaka house. The large open kitchen, dining room and living room were perfect for our meals and board games. The large table accommodated all of us. Also enjoyed the deck with the gorgeous view out to the ocean. The upstairs master bedrooms with their own private balcony and the ocean view every morning were very large with plenty of space.
This house is perfect for a large family and allows everyone their own private place and also gives you a variety of activities with the pool table, ping pong table, hot tub and small pool all right there.
The location is that of an island neighborhood and about a 10- 15 minute drive to the town of Waialua where we did our grocery shopping . Waialua also has many restaurants and souvenir shops and was a bit crowded but this was a welcoming site in view of the year long COVID restrictions.
And last but not least - The Care Takers - Noah and Ashley and their 3 year old daughter Haila- The best! They were always there for us, so thoughtful and caring- Gifted us with a bottle of champagne, a chocolate cream pie and even lent us some tools to fix our granddaughters license plate.
Missing this home already!

The house was perfect for me and my three adult children and one of their girlfriends. We loved the quiet serene location. The view is exactly as pictured and we watched the sun rise and set every day. The house is well stocked with everything you could need in the kitchen and many many beach and bath towels. Residents of the attached duplex are lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we came back to Oahu.

It was a dream vacation
The property was more beautiful than the pictures (if you can imagine that). We stayed a month. The people who own this property went beyond making the month an amazing trip. They got me a cake for my birthday and cards for both my son and I . They are a beautiful family who thinks of everything to make your time enjoyable there. So much privacy . The beach, the pool, the house..... everyone loved it all. We will definitely come back. My 13 yr old son has said he already misses the house. The game room was used mostly everyday. The location is perfect . They have chairs, beach toys, cooler, first aid kit, just to mention a few, to make your stay much more accommodating. Our walks every morning as the sun went up is only a few feet away. The friendly turtles popping their heads up in the water at you. We just absolutely loved it all. Ages 47, 42, 23, 13, and 8 in my family and we all loved staying at this vacation home. Can’t wait to come back . Thank you so much for your kind hospitality. We will never forget it.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it was a great location on the island with easy access to the highway to get anywhere on the island. It was very quiet and peaceful with still being close to everything. We were amazed with the beach, it was so quiet, clean and beautiful! It is right out the backyard and we spent every morning there with still time to tour in the afternoons. There is lots of room inside the home, rooms can get warm but there are lots of fans. The views are unbeatable! The kids loved the games room, pool (cold) and hot tub. The caretaker and his wife were amazing and so helpful and the owners were accessible and helpful as well. We appreciated all the extra touches i.e. sand toys, boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, papertowel, soap, toilet paper, beach towels, lots of bath towels and access to laundry. The kitchen was well stocked, just a few new frying pans would be helpful. It was a very comfortable place to stay. We didn't want to leave!

Location, location, location! And this property has it in abundance being directly on the brown sugar, sandy beach. Location was a 20/10.
The next best thing was the accurate advertising. The pictures reflected the reality and the property was exactly as described in the listing—no surprises.
The pool was the perfect hangout. The pool toys and boogie boards were a great bonus, especially for kids.
We would return again and again and again if we could!
One FYI: know that there are stairs up to the first floor, then up to the second, and then from the first floor down to the pool, so there’s a bit of stair climbing. We had 3 folks with disabilities and know for some stairs can be challenging.

If a house could love, we all felt it at Hale Makamaka!
All nine of us, from age 5 to 75, had something to LOVE about Hale Makamaka. The house provided us a home away from home with everything we needed at a heavenly beachfront environment. It is a perfect place for families/friends to gather with plenty of space and things to do. The service which Hale Makamaka ‘Ohana provided before and during our stay was kind and professional through and through with clearly defined rules. We really had nothing to worry about but to show up and enjoy ourselves.
The house felt spacious and safe with excellent breeze running through all day long. Plenty of beach and bath towels were appreciated as we did multiple dips throughout the day. We loved the view of the ocean, its easy access (30? steps) and how private it felt at the beach. We encountered sea turtles, fishes, crabs, human neighbors and other visitors alike who were all friendly and nice. Beach/pool items were well-stocked and we appreciated them. We all used the pool if the beach was too hot and when kids wanted to practice swimming. We didn’t expect to love the hot tub as much as we did. It was a must-have after our evening dips. The game room was enjoyed when we weren't at the beach.
We mostly spent our time at the house as everything we wanted was there. We did drive into Haleiwa (7-min drive) for grocery shopping (Malama Market) and for some good meals (long slow line at Giovanni’s Shrimp was worth it; Matsumoto Shaved Ice was delicious and the service was super fast; the Beet Box Cafe offered hearty, healthy and very satisfying meals).
We all longed to stay longer with a bit of heartache on our last day, a sign of excellent vacation. If a house could love, our family all felt it. We truly appreciated the fact that the owners shared this extraordinary place with us.
Cheers/Mahalo/Aloha to Hale Makamaka from all of us. Thank you!!!

Great ocean front loccation, a few simple suggestions from another VRBO Owner
The sandy, oceanfront beach was a pleasant suprise, and the plunge pool and jacuzzi were great for after beach & evening relaxation. The house easily accommodated our family vacation of 4 couples and two children (under 2 years). The 2 refrigerators came in handy for our BIG Costco shopping trip on our way in! While the house hasn't been updated; it was fine & everyone was content. The 10 chair dining table gave ample space for family meals and evening games. The ocean facing decks were great retreats, and the door latch gave peace of mind with the pool and small children as did the gates at the top of each stairwell. The assorted beach items exceeded our expectation, and while I understand the owner was reluctant to itemize what was available and it's condition; we bought and traveled with beach items that were already at the house. The white bath towels were new, but the bed sheets, comforters, pillows, and random beach towels were well past their prime. It would be great to have 10 matching large Costco Beach towels that you could inventory & charge guests as needed if they are not all there at check out. We had 10 random size & some worn beach towels. The stove hood light did not work, making meal preparations a little challenging. A bathroom sink was not draining, but Noah promptly responded and resolved the issue quickly. The parking space easily accommodated our two large rental vans, and we found the neighborhood to be very peaceful and the beach seemed like a private beach. The full ocean views from the house, combined with the backyard access to the sand and water were just the vacation that our family needed & we thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful house. Thank you for our welcome "treat" & the papayas left for us to enjoy - it was very thoughtful!

Perfect Tropical paradise get away for a big family
This house had it all. Big comfortable accommodations for cooking, eating, lounging, sleeping and playing. It had a nice beach just in front for swimming. It had spectacular views and beautiful landscaping including a papaya tree that we the owner offered us fruit from. It is a nice off the beaten path neighborhood but close to highway access. We though it couldn't have been better for us.

Everything we dreamed of and more!
My large family of 9 people stayed at Hale Makamaka for a week in celebration of my father's birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed the amazing beachfront location, all the conveniences, and the awesome game room! The beach in the backyard was beautiful and calm - perfect for swimming, snorkeling and strolling. The house was very spacious for 9 adults and is in the perfect location for a relaxing vacation. We highly recommend this home away from home and will definitely book again!

Great House & Location
We had a blast here! Nice beach for walking; some snorkeling opportunities right off beach but not the best at time of year we were there. House well equipped and very comfortable. No noise issue with the caretakers and they couldn't be nicer and more helpful ; ) (I hope my 2 teenagers didn't make too much noise for them!) Pool and game room were big plus for entertaining teens. Been to the North shore many times and this was one of the nicest rentals we've had.

Fantastic
For a large group, this rental house was everything we could have dreamed of. The rooms were great, location was fantastic, and with our whole group traveling to Hawaii for the first time, everything was better than we expected. If we came for only a couple days, we might have picked a hotel a bit closer to the city, but with a week to spend, this kind of vacationing is the way to go. A really great location with everything we needed to make for a truly special trip
