Excellent location! Clean and spacious apartment. Host was quick to respond and gave good restaurant recommendations and helpful tips for floating down the river (an amazing experience for those in our family that did it!). All check in/check out details and other instructions are well explained via VRBO email, a video and a binder in the apartment. Apartment has labels throughout with helpful instructions (how to use the dishwasher, a reminder to close the windows, etc.). Well stocked kitchen in terms of utensils and pantry basics. It was nice to have laundry on site—there is no laundromat in Bern. Cost was 6CHF to wash and another 6 CHF to dry. Would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful stay in this lovely flat. Rooms were unique and beautiful! Living space was separate from kitchen & bath via hallway which made it fun & giving us the entire 1st floor! Windows looked out on to streets of Old Town Bern filled with cafe's, shops, interesting monuments, people and close to the Arie river & Bear Park! Such a wonderful experience we had our 1st time ever as a family in this area & wonderful communication with the hosts! If we are lucky enough to travel there again we would absolutely stay there in Bern!

The apartment was clean, comfortable and well appointed. We were very comfortable and had plenty of room. Communication with the host was always very helpful and responses were quick and timely. Bern is a beautiful city with wonderful attractions, restaurants and shops. This location was in a perfect location and lent itself very well to walking everywhere. Including the train station. Thank you Rob and Sara for your hospitality and a wonderful experience.

This was our third stay in this wonderful, centrally-located apartment building over a 10-year period. Everything you could possible need in Bern is just steps away. The apartment is well-equipped and very comfortable, with all modern conveniences, despite the centuries-old historic setting. Rob and Sara are great hosts, ready to help with any questions and to ensure an enjoyable stay in Bern. Thanks for another enjoyable stay. Hope to be back soon.

I can't say enough positive things about this property. The location is perfect - walking distance to all the sights in old town, shopping, restaurants, and transportation. Despite this, the apartment was very quiet and cozy every night. The apartment is clean, airy, and very comfortable. There is also a lovely bakery next door that we visited almost every morning. Check in/out was a breeze and Rob was always helpful with assistance and suggestions. You can't go wrong with this property and my family hopes to return again!

This apartment was a great place in a great location. I can't say enough about staying in Bern old town, a block away from the Zytlogge clock tower and a few blocks from the main cathedral. Super walkable. The apartment's bedroom was dark and quiet through the night (if you close the windows, because cathedral bells, of course!). As I saw from the listing, the bathroom and kitchen are separated from the main unit by the stairwell, and while this was initially awkward, it also added a lot of ambience to the old European experience and ended up working out great in our routines. Owner was A+ communicative throughout the stay and all of the owner-provided info was well thought out. Would stay here again.

A unique experience!
My wife and I really enjoyed staying in Rob and Sara’s place. The apartment is right around 300 years old and is full of unique historical items, such as the restored original floor, the original tile stove, the beautifully hand painted closet and various other cool features. At the same time the apartment has a modern kitchen and bathroom.
Great place!!!

Excellent Rental and Hosts!
This property was nestled right into the community and in the hustle and bustle. Rob greeted us on our second day and gave us some great advice about exploring Bern and the surrounding areas. The unit had a unique layout but it made the experience more authentic. Rob shared stories surrounding the building and their family’s history with it! We made use of the kitchen quite a bit and it was very well stocked and clean. It was easy to navigate and really added to our time in Bern. In addition to the unit, Sarah and Rob went above and beyond by providing instructions, quick tips and videos to ensure we could navigate the check in/out process and the apartment with ease. In addition to the unit, they provided wifi through a travel box which allowed us to take it on the go and saved us tons of money in data which was such a thoughtful touch. This was a phenomenal rental for us (a family of four!) and we would HIGHLY recommend it.

A comfy home in the old city of Bern
This was one of the best apartments we’ve rented in 15 years of experience with short-term vacation rentals. The unit is part of a historic building in the center of town that has been fully restored and is well-equipped. Despite its central location, it is very quiet. The kitchen is fully stocked and the bed is large and firm. The owners live in the building and are attentive. We felt very well cared for and at home.

Wonderful Hosts, Immaculate Apartment, Well Equipped, Great Location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unique and comfortable apartment. Rob and Sara were friendly and very helpful. The walk from the train station took about fifteen minutes and Rob’s directions were detailed, easy to understand and took us through Bern’s famous Clock Tower, which is very close to the apartment.
Grocery stores are close by and we also took advantage of the twice weekly Farmers Market on the street below the apartment. As well, there were two Christmas Markets very close by, which were fun to visit.
Bern is a beautiful city and staying at the apartment added to our experience here. Highly recommended.

Beautiful apartment in center of Bern's old town. Gracious and attentive hosts.
This apartment is well appointed and so comfortable for a couple. Gorgeous historical building full of charm and character. Well-loved and maintained! Location is easy and quick to main train station by foot (10 mins) or tram around the corner. All area attractions and many restaurants and cafes close by.
Sara and Rob are great hosts. Had a minor concern (really minor!) about hot water and they tackled the issue immediately. They were easy to reach before and during our visit. Gave great recommendations on dining options etc.
Highly recommend for any visit to Bern.

No better location in Bern!
My family and I were very happy to have chosen this apartment for our weekend stay in Bern. Situated in the heart of Old Town near the famous clock tower, there really is no better location for enjoying all the sights, sounds, and experiences of the city. The apartment preserves the charm of a historic building with the comforts of modern living and is well suited for a small family. We were able to walk to everything we wanted to see and do but still able to easily stop back in for a rest or meal. Also, I cannot say better things about the hosts, who were extremely helpful and accomodating. Their communication before the trip was great and helped us to coordinate our arrival around the busy festivities that were going on downtown (we visited during the Fasnacht holiday). They also gave us tips to really enjoy the great parades and events that were happening around us! We definitely hope to stay again!

Do not miss the rare and delightful opportunity to enter the 18th century in this lovingly-preserved, family-owned building. Discover unique features everywhere you look, from coffered ceilings to hand-wrought hardware to early tromp l'oeil paintings to carefully-preserved cabinetry. A wonderful apartment in the heart of Bern
Walk through the beautiful arcades of the city of Bern, go around the corner from the Zytglogge, turn into a building entrance, climb 14 stairs to the first floor landing and you arrive at what we have come to think of as our home away from home in Switzerland. Our place is quite spacious for an active retired couple from California. It is comfortable, clean and homey. It is smack dab in the middle of the action of a nation's capital, yet remarkably quiet. The block we are on has 12 restaurants. We are minutes away, on foot, from the parliament building, the main cathedral, several museums and the mile stretch of arcades which constitute the "main street" of Bern. Eight bus and tram lines have stops within 200 yards of the apartment. A wonderful bakery serving fresh bread and other baked goods, is in the very next building to ours. If this weren't enough, the experience is completed by the presence of our hosts, Sara and Rob, who live in the building. They are Canadians who have decided to live in Bern. Making us comfortable is their primary professional concern and they strike a perfect balance between running a facility with all the amenities of a 5 Star Hotel and being friendly, informative, responsive innkeepers. We stayed in this flat for 5 weeks and can't wait to return. Run, don't walk, to the "Contact the owner" button and book this apartment for your Swiss trip. Just don't take our weeks!

Great place but very noisy
If it weren't for the noise, we'd give this flat another star. It's lovely, in a very convenient location and generally has everything you may need in a holiday home. So, if noise isn't an issue for you, and you'd like to be in a bright, comfortable flat, then this would be a good choice. For us, the noise meant very little sleep. There's the street noise until well after midnight from passers-by, and then the refuse collection around 6 each morning followed by general deliveries. Then for the weekend there's the street market directly under the flat with dozens of stands being set up.

Central, comfortable, quintessential Bern
Imagine what life would have been like for Albert Einstein when he lived in Bern and did his pioneering work. This apartment is in the same block as the one he lived in and about a one minute walk away. It is a VERY similar apartment in a very similar building. The Einstein Museum is about an eight minute, 450 meter walk across the river.
The apartment was very clean and convenient to the old city area of Bern, about a nine minute, 650 meter walk from the Central Bern Banhof.
Rob and Sara were excellent hosts and provided a great deal of information to help us enjoy our too-short time in Bern. We would love to go back again when we get the chance. Thank you.

historical apartment
We spent nine days in this apartment in the beautiful centre of Bern.
The apartment is nice and comfortable and very quiet..with a good bed and nicely furnished. It is a pity that the bathroom and the kitchen are separated from the rest of the apartment ..so it is less suitable for elderly people.
Public transport is just around the corner..and with the card Sara and Rob gave the quests you can use all trams and buses for the whole period. Sara and Rob are friendly and helpful and know a solution of any question.
We had a wonderful stay. Thank so much for you both.

Bright and comfortable apartment
I along with five other women (Girl Scout alumnae) stayed three nights (wish it had been longer) in this roomy and modern apartment. Even though there were six of us, we were not on top of each other with the large living area and bedroom, plus the ample size modern kitchen. Five people would have been better for sleeping, as two adults on the couch was a bit uncomfortable, but we are Girl Scouts and adaptable. Sara, Rob and the children seemed like old friends by the time we left. They were so helpful in giving directions, and assisting us in many nice ways. We appreciated Rob giving us a tour of the apartment and how everything worked. The location was perfect in that we could walk or grab a tram to any place in the city. We especially enjoyed the street market on Saturday morning, although those in the front portion of the apartment heard them setting up booths beginning about 3:00 A.M. I recommend staying here and would definitely return if ever in Bern again. Great communication with Sara prior to booking and arrival.

Just what we wanted
We stayed for 6 nights in this lovely old world apartment. Modern kitchen facilities, bathroom and large sitting room and bedroom. We brought fresh fruit & vegetables, etc at the market on the street below the apartment on the Friday morning after we arrived. It was great to wake up and see the market downstairs. Rob was very informative & helpful on both arrival and departure. The apartment is in a very convenient location close to everything. We did heaps of walking around the city.
We ate at Tibits restaurant a couple of times (great for vegetarians). There are two in Bern, one at the station and another not far from the apartment.
While we were there we took a short train trip to another lovely town Thun and spent a beautiful day there.
Highly recommended!

Charming apartment
We spent a week in this apartment and found the apartment to be very comfortable.
The location is perfect, few minutes walk from all amenities. You could watch the world go by on the street below, but we never found noise to be an issue. We were there during the World Cup and there were TVs out in the street below, but it was all part of the character. There were also a couple of farmers markets on the street below while we were there and we stocked up on lovely fresh foods.
The apartment itself is very comfortable, nice big bed. We kept the bedroom windows open at night as it was very warm so you do hear the clock bells on an hourly basis, but hey ho, you are in the middle of a city.
We did cook quite a lot as it is very expensive to eat out. We had all the equipment we needed and it was nice that there were some store cupboard essentials already there.
The bathroom and kitchen are separate from the main apartment and you have to cross a public hall to get to them. That was the only niggle if you needed to use the toilet at 3am, or sprint across wrapped in a towel after a shower without bumping into your neighbours!
Rob & Sara were excellent informative hosts, very responsive, if we needed anything it was delivered immediately.
We loved Bern, a nice peaceful city with plenty to see and an excellent base to travel around from.

Had it all - charm, location, and modern conveniences
My daughters (ages 14 and 11) and I stayed for three nights in this simply lovely historic apartment in the heart of old town Bern. It is a first floor walk-up. The apartment was quite large, with a big separate bedroom, a large sitting area overlooking the street, and then a kitchen/bathroom area separated from the bedroom area by a shared hallway and two doors. It was also meticulously clean, very well maintained, and beautifully decorated without losing the charm of being a very old building (the house was reportedly built in 1679, but some parts are older). The kitchen is quite modern, and included a dishwasher, as well as all the basics to get you going (tea, sugar, salt, etc). We used it every day, twice a day, as my younger daughter is quite picky about food and eating out is quite expensive in Bern, and everywhere else in Switzerland. There was a good grocery store about 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The bedroom was quiet and comfortable. The sitting room couch converts into a bed, and that room was considerable louder between the clocks chiming on the hour and every quarter hour and the excited fans for the World Cup, which was on during our stay. Ear plugs may be a good idea for sleeping in the front room. I will say that the World Cup was a blast during our stay. Restaurants had big-screen tvs out in the street so everyone could watch Switzerland play. We got to celebrate with the Bernese after a big game, and it was one of the highlights of our whole trip. The location of the apartment is great - 15 minute walk to the train station along the main market street. Bern itself is ideally located for day trips to other parts of Switzerland. We went to Luzern one day and the Berner Oberland another, each was one hour or less away by train, so Bern was a handy base. The hosts, Rob and Sara were very nice and very helpful, with a Canadian background so there was no language barrier at all for us. They even went out and got portable fans for the first night because it was unseasonably warm in Bern. Internet access was quite good and included in the nightly rate. Make sure they show you the "trick" for opening the glass door, and don't open the door onto the balcony off the kitchen. It looks fun to explore, but is very hard to close again.
