Our stay here was enjoyable. The grounds were beautiful and so peaceful. We felt safe leaving our belongings and surfboards in the car at night. It was nice to have a large bathroom to share with my husband so we weren’t tripping over each other.

We stayed for a weekend getaway

I was extremely happy with everything!! It was a gorgeous property with lovely owners/ managers. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Peggy and given a key. She also gave us suggestions for dinner locations and a log for the fireplace. We went to one of her dinner suggestions which was Street Side Ale House in Atascadero. We liked it so much we ate there both nights!! Fantastic!!The space was exactly as shown was very clean and well kept. Atascadero has a lot of little small shops and restaurants to go to; we did antiquing. There is a few antique shops as well as a pawnshop in town . There was a great coffee house as well called Bru. It was not far from downtown Atascadero or even Morro Bay. We spent half of the day in Atascadero and half of the day in Morro Bay. This location is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway!!! Location is great!! Lots of area for a morning or daytime walk. At night we sat outside and looked up at the stars! :) I greatly appreciated how seriously they took Covid! When we checked in Peggy greeted us wearing a mask and we were sure to wear our masks as well. She allowed us to check out the space while standing outside so everyone was properly socially distanced. While walking around the property we did not wear a mask since we were away from everyone but we did wear one in town. It was a concern of mine to travel during the pandemic but this location made it very comfortable for me. My boyfriend and I have talked about going back to this location since we liked it so much!!! Thank you Tom and Peggy!!

We booked 2 nights at the Portola Inn to celebrate my wife’s birthday and only wished we could have stayed longer. The property itself is huge with a beautiful garden and trees all throughout. The cozy suite was perfect for my family of four( toddler and baby) since the pullout couch adds more space to sleep. The jet tub was great after a long day sightseeing animals at the local zoo and hanging out at the lovely lake park. Check in/check out was easy, Peggy was very kind and helpful during the process and Tom gave great recommendations for local restaurants which made it easy to decide where to eat. They also provided us with food to feed the goats next door which my son enjoyed very much. Thank you again for a relaxing weekend we will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our stay and especially liked the many different views and garden spaces about this property. A gem!

The property is gorgeous with trees, plants and short trails for a peaceful and relaxing get away. Atascadero is 15 to 30 minutes away of the beaches, SLO and close to Paso Robles. My daughter loved walking the garden,orchard and getting on the swing under the tree. Recommended for children and adults. Super clean and safely tucked away during this pandemic. Tom is a wonderful host, he gave s great local recommendations and helped my 10-yea old pick tomatoes and peppers from the orchard. We are already planning our next weekend getaway next year!

This was a hidden gem! Cute little studio room with the most amazing jacuzzi tub. The bed was a little uncomfortable but nothing compared to your own bed, so I can't hold the against them. The only other thing we had issues with was trying to get the cable to work, so we just ended up watching movies out of the collection that is provided. The check in process and communication between owner and I was seamless and easy. He gave great recommendations of things to do and see. Definitely will go back one day! Thank you for your accommodation and hospitality.

Wow! What a great place to stay for the weekend. The owners were very helpful from the moment of booking all the way through the stay. The property was amazing and felt as if we were in your own little resort. Close to many stores and restaurants as well. Will definitely stay here again when in the area.

Wonderful stay in Atascadero! Got lucky and there was availability to stay in the bed-and-breakfast suite. A warm welcome (from a social distance as these times require), very helpful hosts who provided additional items needed, a beautiful property where are you feel you are away from it all. I imagine the events here are great as it is nicely laid out. Would definitely return.

This was the perfect little home for my group's (4 of us) 3 night stay in the SLO area! We weren't too far from the beaches or good food, but we ended up spending the majority of our time exploring the grounds -- reading, doing yoga, taking pictures and enjoying the company of each other! This spot is gorgeous for a wedding or other events, too! We felt safe and comfortable with Tom and Peggy, but please be aware that this area of California has lots of Trump supporters and white supremacists. Tom and Peggy also safely socially distanced and wore masks when appropriate but the people in Central CA seemed not to care about COVID 19, which was concerning! Regardless, if you are looking for a little safe getaway in COVID 19 times, this is perfect! Be safe, yall

We came to the Paso Robles area to check out the Sensorio light installation on a recent weekend. It was a last minute decision and a popular long weekend so we were delighted to find that the Portola Inn had a suite available for our family. It was the bridal suite since the Inn seems to mostly host weddings and other functions. But it was perfect for us with a comfy bed for the adults and pull-out sofa for the kids. We especially liked have a cozy fireplace in the room and the kids loved being able to roast marshmallows in the firepit area. Tom was a very friendly and helpful host, we'd recommend this property whether staying for a wedding or otherwise. And exploring Atascadero was a welcome surprise, we had no idea what a charming town it was, plenty to do!

Excellent location, room, property,and views. So many trees, many bearing exotic fruits. Pomegranate. Quince. Persimmon. Pepper! Room was large and historic and unique.

We had a wonderful stay at the Portola Inn. The owners, Tom and Peggy, are super friendly and easy going and their place is just as advertised. We stayed in the Master's Suite which felt very private. The property is gorgeous and beautifully maintained and there's a very friendly dog. We were there to attend graduation at Cal Poly which was only a 15 minute drive from Atascadero. Discovered several great places nearby to eat and get coffee. Would definitely recommend this place! The Portola Inn Master Suite is a lovely place to spend a romantic weekend. It's very spacious, with a cozy, old-world feel to it. The large bathroom has a large, jetted tub - so relaxing! I love that the property has so much history, too. My husband and I really enjoyed wandering about the grounds and chatting with the friendly and charming owners, Tom and Peggy O'Malley. We will definitely plan to stay here, again, when we are in the area.

The property is amazing and the hosts were very welcoming and attentive! Its a lovely escape in an area filled with a lot to do see and do and better than any hotel! We will definitely be back!

It's quite a treat to stay on a 1920s estate which still has trees planted when Atascadero was a utopian colony! And with the mayor no less! Our family of three had a great time on the estate — our preschooler loved Mr. McGregor's Garden — and off, seeing the beautiful city hall and visiting wine country (Ancient Peaks was a good tip from Tom). Great place!

We one rents out anything sometimes it's like rolling the dice. This one came up 7's it was fantastic.

We had our mother's 90th birthday party in the garden at the Inn and our family stayed in the master suite. We had a wonderful time! There was a heat wave but our party under the trees was pleasant. Our rooms were conveniently located just up the path from the party. The beds were really comfortable, even the pull out sofa. Jana, who helps coordinate the events was so helpful with her positive attitude and special attention given to our older guests. Tom helped us feel at home and Peggy helped us with many details. I really enjoyed the setting--just beautiful.

I enjoyed my stay in the Master Suite at the Portola Inn. The tastefully decorated room was gorgeous and immaculate. The bathroom was very large and luxurious. The view was spectacular, and the property has a rich history that the owners love sharing with guests. I absolutely love this place!
