Great! Lots to do though rec room games needed a few fixes Pool and volleyball court were wonderful! Most bedrooms great, though bunk room a bit tight for teens; closets too full of things so not enough room for our stuff. But not a huge problem, we just moved a few things around. . Lovely kitchen but a bit crowded with extra things Mr. Carter was very accommodating and got us things quickly when we were missing them. Thank you! We had a memorable week together as a family of 18!

Smile Away was the perfect place for a vacation with our adult children and their families. A close and easy walk to the beach for all ages and the pool and hot tub were all perfect for our crew. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Plenty of dishes, utensils, pans, and appliances needed for a large crowd. The games were up-to-date and pieces all there which was a pleasant surprise. The layout of all the rooms allowed for privacy for everyone when it was wanted and their was plenty of room when we all wanted to gather. When contacting the owner, communication was quick and helpful. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Smile Away had everything that we needed -pool, hot tub, games, enough beds. Wasn't that clean however(4 out of 5 stars.)

The kitchen is well stocked, the house is spacious. Sleeps 20 means 3 to a king size bed. Not enough pillow cases for the pillows. The owner constantly sent in people to do ‘maintenance’ without warning, even though he knew I had 12 girls in the house. Constantly wanted proof of who was in the house-had to submit drivers licenses twice, had to take pictures in front of the house as proof of being there. He gave the door pin to a stranger who snuck in to count the people in the house and said he didn’t need to explain. We had girls sleeping, dressing and walking around in PJs. He behaves wildly inappropriately. Pity, because it’s a great venue.

Our only concern was the distance to the beach was further than we expected. And carrying groceries up three floors. Lol Overall was a beautiful, clean house and pool for our large family.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this property! It was clean and easy to check in to. The beds were very comfortable and the set up of the home was easy to accommodate our large family. The kids really enjoyed the pool and easy access yo the beach. There were two nice sized wagons we could take to the beach and load up our chairs and lunch. The house has all the accommodations needed for a big family. We would definitely visit this area of outerbanks again! Favorite coffee shop: The Kind Cup Favorite beach area: coral beach access within the neighborhood. Also 10/10 recommend driving on 4x4 beach to see the wild horses!

We loved staying here!! The house is so spacious, the pool and jacuzzi was fun and relaxing, and it was a quick walk to the beach. It’s also located in a very central location, we didn’t have to travel far for food or excursions which was nice. We only wish that the volleyball court was ready for us to play in but other than that, our family made some really great memories there. :)

Her entire family had a very good time at this property because they were many many amenities and the pool was lovely however the property needs a lot of updating and a lot of cleaning up when I read on the web about steps to the beach I thought it meant walking there but it actually means lots and lots of steps to go up and down which made it difficult for a lot of us

It was easy to communicate with the owner. The house is nice and the location is great.

Overall the place was better in person than based on the pictures. My only gripe was appliances and curtains hadn’t been cleaned and had stains on them. For the price of the home this house should have been immaculate. My family enjoyed their stay. Good home. Owner make sure you communicate any issues and available for any issues and concerns.

The house was very beautiful and had all the equipment we needed to enjoy our stay. John was in touch with us if we needed anything.

My brothers and I hosted my parents and our families for their 50th wedding anniversary (14 people in all). The house was perfect for this occasion and surprisingly well equipped. The younger kids loved the pool and basketball and the older folks enjoyed the hot tub. The house is a short walk from the beach. The owner was very attentive and kept in touch to make sure our stay went off perfectly.

The whole family (16 total) from all age ranges stayed for the week. It was a great stay and John was very responaive.

First family vacation for us. We all had a great time, the house accommodations were great. We all loved spending time at the pool. John was very easy to deal with. The only downside for me was the steps, but hey, I’m old.

We had a very nice time. The house is nice and the location is great. It's on the third street back from the beach but there is an easy crossover. The beach was very small when we were there, likely due to a storm that was happening the day we arrived. The pool and hot tub were nice. A few things to be aware of...the house was not clean. There were crushed goldfish crackers on the floor in the top floor master bedroom and the kitchen was greasy and grimy. This is not the owner's fault; I think he needs a new cleaning company. The beach chairs are horrible; bring your own. And you cannot play volleyball or let your children use the play set in the back because it is overgrown and rocky. Overall though, a very nice stay; the owner is very responsive and on top of any issue you might have.

My family and I have stayed in VRBO rentals all around the US and found this one to be one of the best. It's clean, has high end amenities (the most well stocked kitchen I have encountered in a rental), is in a great location and the owner is prompt to rectify any issues or concerns that may develop. My extended family of 13 people, ages 4-72, ALL enjoyed our stay at Smile Away. Rent it, you won't regret it!

Our group of 8 adults and 6 kids (family and friends), with kids ages 5-11 really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home for 11 nights this Spring (Mar 29-Apr 9). The house is amazing, tastefully furnished with 3 levels, and looks and lives even better than in the pictures. The home has a rec room and 2 bedrooms 2 baths on the lower/entry level, 4 bedrooms and 2 baths on the mid-level, and the kitchen, living, and dining areas with one master bedroom on the top level. We loved the beautiful balconies we could just step right out onto for nice views of the area. The house is situated in a pretty area of Corolla with many spectacular homes in the vicinity. We could hear the ocean from the balconies, and the views and sounds were so surreal at night. The master bedroom we slept in had a really comfortable bed, in fact, my husband and I found it to be as comfortable as our bed at home. The kitchen was very well stocked with appliances and essentials. . The house is a short walk to the beach and is just north of the Sailfish boardwalk that leads right up to the beach. The Sailfish boardwalk is being rebuilt and updated (John had let us know. It should be ready for use soon from what I could tell based on construction changes that week), so we ended up accessing the beach from Coral and Bonito accesses N of the house and Marlin S of the house. Bonito has a parking lot as well, for anyone that would like to drive right up and walk over the beach, however, once Sailfish reopens it will be a really quick walk to the beach. The house already has beach carts and plenty of beach chairs. We absolutely loved using the hot tub as our visit feel during the cooler season. We also used the pool table and the basketball hoop a lot throughout our trip! John was kind enough to have ordered a new Le Creuset pot that had arrived the same day we did, and we enjoyed cooking a few yummy meals in the new pot! The house is only 7-8 minutes from the Corolla Lighthouse. We enjoyed visiting the lighthouse and watching sunsets from the Sound side. The driveway of the house made for great bike riding loops for the kids in our group! We also used many of the board games after dinner. Food Lion and Harris Teether are close by. Duck Donuts, Island Smoothies, Lighthouse Bagels, etc. were within 5 mins of the house. I felt like John cares a lot about his customers’ satisfaction. He was extremely prompt in taking care of a couple of maintenance issues that unexpectedly came up.

The owner was very responsive to questions which was a big plus. The house is about 3 blocks from the beach but was a nice walk. We were disappointed in the children’s play set and were unable to use it. The hot tub was fantastic. The supermarket was within walking distance which was also nice. The house is well stocked with dishes, appliances, etc. Like most other homes, the kitchen and main living area are on the third level so be prepared to get your exercise!! The rec room was nice with a pool table and other games were available. There is no direct view of the ocean but overall I would recommend this location. Our family enjoyed our stay.

We had a great time at this house, and it was a great setup for our family of 7 adults and 6 kids. For the price, I think it's a very good value. It has the things you need, it's clean, and we really enjoyed our stay. Here’s a high level overview what we liked and what we didn’t like so much: The good: plenty of bedrooms on different floors, great kitchen tools (especially the coffee makers!), very responsive owner, plenty of Adirondack chairs outside, the gas grill worked great and got up to 650 and they had two other charcoal grills as well, there are plenty of beach chairs (about 20) so no need go bring your own, ping pong, pool, and air hockey were all fun night activities, and the two beach carts were enough to carry beach stuff for 13 people. The pool area is good enough, not a great, but it got the job done. What could be improved: the outside backyard needs a re-haul. We found a couple of nails back there but there was signage of this in the house and on the vrbo listing, but still not great. We did have a couple of issues during our stay but the owner was very responsive and handled them quickly. I would recommend this house to a family or group of friends coming to Corolla.

Very well kept. Great deck and chairs. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Very nice pool and hot tub. This was a very comfortable home to spend at the beach with our family of 16.

The home is very nice. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need. The bedrooms are nice sizes. The 2nd floor didn’t cool down temperature wise. We encountered a few problems and the owner was quick to respond to fix them. We were disappointed by the unkept areas at the volleyball site, the horseshoe site, and the children’s play area. Many weeds and tall grass. The pool and hot tub was nice. A few jets weren’t working in the hot tub but it still felt good. The outdoor shower is nice and roomy.

This was the best outfitted kitchen of any beach or ski property we've stayed in, and the pool is nice. The property has a big lot so the neighboring houses aren't on top of it and it's quiet. Easy two block walk to the beach. Everybody was happy with it.

Nice house. John was great about answering our questions before and during our stay. I loved that he listed all the amenities...and lots of them. Appliances were nice, especially the coffee machines. Lots of beach chairs and two heavy duty carts were a must (although one wasn’t working quite right). We had a few issue with the cleaning prior to our visit, but John offered to have it taken care of right away. It would be helpful to have a notebook with instructions on stereo equipment and appliances and local attractions. Lots of equipment and stuff with the house, but it did take up some closet space in the guest rooms. Outside was a nice warm shower after being at the beach. The pool was nice. The “volleyball court” was disappointing for us. Really needs to be graded, cleaned with fresh sand and a new net. We were not able to use it. For some reason the GPS shows this house directly beside a beach access walkway, but it is actually across the street (6th row) and a couple houses down. My biggest frustration was a credit card fee that got added to our balance after the payment was made. It is listed in the contract, but should be included in the “fees” portion of the itemized payment. The partially working hot tub jets, broken pin in the cart and our alarm issues could have offset that extra charge easily. We were there just after the covid pandemic quarantine, so I think the owner was doing his best to get things repaired, but still. Whalehead beach is a great location in Corolla. This house is very convenient to the grocery and shopping center. A little walk to the beach. Carts are a must. Great rental company locally for umbrellas and a surfboard. And great local Fresh market with steam pots to go. Love the area. A little busier than usual this visit, but a relaxing weekend in a house with lots of games and recreational things to do even with a little rain.

Other than a short stint with a previous tenant damaging the hot tub, our trip went along without a hitch. The property manager was responsive to issues and the location itself offers some great amenities for visitors.

We loved this house and this neighborhood. It was close to everything but far enough away that you did not see or hear your neighbors. With lots of foliage surround the home we felt very comfortable that our group was not bothering anyone with our evening pool games and cookouts. John was wonderful to deal with and prompt to reply when we had an issue with the pool losing water. The pool man was out in a jiffy and fixed it. Kitchen was well stocked with all kind of appliances including a belgin waffle maker. We made waffles for breakfast and ice cream waffles for desert.
