The retreat is obvious. The “treat” is that you are only steps from downtown Highlands. We walked every day to get the full experience. We’ve stayed in Hghlands several times but never where we could take casual strolls or walk to our shopping or dining destinations. There is so much more to Highlands than we ever knew.
The Highlands Biological Station and Ravenel Lake was an unexpected treat and only minutes away by foot. Further into our walk were manicured lawns and Dahlia gardens that that were a feast for the eyes. We even got to experience the annual Rotary 5K run in support of local charities without leaving the porch!
The house was perfectly appointed, well maintained (everything worked) and on a beautiful street. There was a deer in the driveway upon our arrival. Nice welcoming! One thing that really appealed to us was that we truly felt at home with people out walking in front of the house almost all day long. You felt like you were in a friendly family oriented neighborhood.
We loved our experience and hope to stay in this same house again next year. That is a first for us!

My wife and I along with our 13 month old stayed here for three nights. The location was perfect! The street was quiet, and the house is very walkable to all the restaurants and shopping, even with a stroller! The house is very well maintained and clean! It looked as if was newly renovated and freshly painted. The host was very responsive the couple of times we had questions. 10/10 would stay here again!

The house is a little dated but that only added to the allure of Highlands. Think of it as an upscale cabin in the woods… except you’re less than a mile from downtown and the walk is amazing. Laird was extremely responsive despite our dumb questions and seemed as happy to help as we were to borrow her home for the weekend.

Well supplied, comfortable home in an excellent location for exploring. Our little boy loved being so close to the pond, and we loved being able to walk to Main Street for ice cream or to the nature center to explore. The front porch rockers are perfect for morning coffees or evening wine; the only thing missing is more seating to dine outside.

When we arrived, it was just after a hard freeze in the area. The heating needed attention and the owner sent someone out to repair it. It was fixed and we had heat! Great communication with owner; perfect location for town and the house was very clean and comfortable. A great getaway in Highlands to relax and enjoy our time. Even though it was drizzly weather, we still loved it all. The fireplace was wonderful!!

An actual walk to town property with a great flat road for kids biking, etc. Furniture in living room was different than pictured but still great for us. Great for our mother daughter trip. Laird was very responsive and we would stay again!

The back yard was great, very scenic. Sitting on the deck at the big house was just beautiful. ( of course we were blessed with great weather. Clear instructions for staying, checkin and checkout were helpful. We would stay again…. maybe bring the grandkids.

Although the location was fantastic, the pictures are not up to date! There was one sofa, for 4 adults, in the den to share and the chairs in the pictures posted are not there. Dining room furniture was not the same either, orange plastic chairs are now there. Furniture on the back porch would have been nice but there was none. I would suggest updating the interior pictures on VRBO site to reflect what the current furnishings are. There was also a very musty smell and my husband's allergies were horrible the entire stay. Maybe some updating on the decor! We did have fun and could get to the town very easily!

It's Wonderful Place
We were in town for a family wedding in the Highlands and I wanted to be able to walk to everything and this house fit the bill just perfectly. We had family gatherings on 2 of the evenings and everyone commented on just how perfect the house was. Older and not updated but charming and very clean. It had everything we needed. The seating in the living room was plentiful without looking like there was too much furniture. The couch actually pulls out to a doube platform bed - not an uncomfortable rollout couch. We built fires in the evenings which added to the charm. The dining room table is a huge benefit and the passthru window from the kitchen to the rest of the house opens the house very much. We've stayed in many rentals and we were impressed that there were plenty of garbage bags, dishwashing detergent, toilet paper, etc. We didn't have to go out and get anything. I highly recommend this home and Laird makes renting his property very easy. He's the most responsive owner I've had for any rental.

A great mountain rental. Easy 5 stars. You can walk to anywhere on Main street from this home - it’s incredibly convenient. It was clean and had most items we needed. Per the other reviews, the front door is a little tricky but wasn’t an issue for us. Already looking for excuses to go back.

Adorable ranch within walking distance
Perfect for our family of four. We walked into town multiple times and enjoyed walking by the lake. Family room is large with lots of sitting options. Front porch has two adult rockers and one child sized. Owner was very easy and communicated in advance. I would stay here again!
