This house was perfect for our family. The location was absolutely amazing and we would definitely visit again. The home was stocked with everything we needed and the beach was literally at our fingertips and toes. The beach is listed as private but there are people walking it and playing on it all day long so it’s not private. The only issues we experienced were that 3 of the 4 bedroom TVs didn’t work, but we weren’t there to watch TV so it didn’t impact us much. The refrigerator did seem to have an issue keeping the temperature near the end of our stay. The guest house does get pretty hot during the summer months so it’s important to keep those windows open at all times to allow for a breeze as there is no AC. The main house kept pretty cool with the breeze from ocean. Some of the windows don’t have screens so we had a bit of issues with bugs entering the home. It was either keep the windows shut and sweat or open the windows and possibly get a few bugs flying around in the house. But you’re in Hawaii so bugs are expected! The house is pretty old, guessing it was built in the 40s or 50s. Not everything has been upgraded, but we didn’t mind that too much, we had what we needed and we explored the island most of the time. The owners father showed up at the property during our stay which threw us off a bit as we weren’t expecting an unannounced visit. I’ve never had an owner randomly show up during a VRBO stay and it would have been nice to have been alerted beforehand.

We had the most amazing experience at this property. The house was extremely clean when we got there. The owner was super responsive. The north surf shop was great for bike ride rentals and very affordable.

Our family had a wonderful at this charming beach house, steps away from Sunset beach.. Location is a quick car ride to everything you need: snorkeling, surfing, shopping, etc. Property manager was very responsive. The TV in the front room wouldn't turn on and after troubleshooting it, there was a new one installed within a day.

We had such an amazing stay. Was a little worried about the lack of beach out back but it was actually a blessing because there was very little traffic from the public. Everything was great and we would love to come back some day! Thank you for the amazing visit!

Had an 8 day stay on Oahu at this rustic typical beach house located on sunset beach. There is a front main house that sleeps four and a rear guest house that sleeps four. The ground around both beach houses has been poured with concrete except for one side of the main house has a little grassy area by the outside shower and tap. The property is surrounded by a fence and big gate as well as shrubs and feels fairly private. We had 7 people total and had Plenty of room. Neither home has AC but there are ceiling fans that help and a few box fans when needed. If temps in oahu are 80 and above these houses may be tough to stay in- particularly the guest house which runs hotter since it is further from the ocean. We did fine as our temps ran about 75-79 f. Check in was very easy as was check out. There are adequate kitchen supplies - dishes, silverware, pots, pans, rice cooker, toaster, microwave. Etc. also a few basic spices. Fridge/ freezer with ice maker. The dishwasher was not working while we were there and appears to have been broken since a previous post dated May 19. Washing dishes by hand was fine however…. Least of our worries. The beds in the main house were fine but the twin beds in guest house could use better mattresses. They were uncomfortable. The location of this residence is fabulous. The deck is awesome, the views spectacular and the beach superb. We would most definitely come back to this place again. We left four new boogie boards, a football - enjoy 😊

Overall, it was exactly as desired and expected- a private beachfront getaway free from the madness of the resort areas (Au Lani, Honolulu to Waikiki). All needed items are either onsite or down the road at Foodland.
This is not a hotel- it’s a home that you will quickly make your own. The only minor challenge was a failure of the dishwasher (with 7 people, we had no issues keeping things washed). The twin beds in the back house could use slightly thicker mattresses (just an observation).
Excellent value- we would come back to the property as is and stay for a month.

We loved our stay for 8 days and wish we could have extended our trip. We stayed with my sister and her family, 4 adults, and 4 kids. We had a parents house and kids house (ages 15-20). It was a perfect set up. There was plenty to do in the area, but our crew surfed and moved from beach to deck to house freely and happily. It was the vacation we all needed after a long winter.

House and property were perfect for the 5 of us. The guest house was nice for the kids it gave us a little space. Beach was excellent water was a little rough to walk into but you could walk down the Beach 5 minutes and there was a calmer place to go in. We are beginner surfers so the waves in front of the property were to big for us. Aside from that everything was great.

House worked out great for house! We had a fantastic time even during rainy season. Deck has over hang great for shade and rain. House was fine.. but not really room for 8 people , living room and dining room furniture were oversized and very heavy. Our bedroom had a great view of beach but mattress seemed to be a full while bed it’s self was oversized for room and challenging to navigate around on one side. House was great for 5 of us but would be challenging for 8. Loved our time there … thought this might help a bigger group.

We had an amazing stay at the property! RIGHT ON the beach. We loved waking up each morning and eating breakfast out on the deck and watching the waves, and stargazing at night. House was clean and comfortable, and in an excellent location. Lots of great beaches nearby, good food trucks, and close to Haleiwa. William was responsive and check in was super easy. Would definitely come back!

My family and I had a great stay at the Sunset Beach house. House was very clean and tidy upon our arrival. Kitchen is well-equipped. Please note that the back deck and beach access are different from what is pictured, with this property and others nearby impacted by beach erosion. We spent the majority of our time at the house on the deck enjoying the beautiful views , surfers and sunsets. Great location for exploring the North Shore.

Cleanliness
House was very dirty,we stayed there 10 days and we had to bleach the bathroom and shower curtain cause it looked horrible.
It does not look like in pictures,house is old does not have AC just some ceiling fans.
Dear owner we paid you an insane amount of money for our stay,please use that for a little renovation of the house,at least a fresh coat of paint.

We had an absolutely amazing time on the North Shore! The location right on the beach was so incredible, the kitchen had what we needed, the separate guest house worked out great!! I am hoping to get back there soon and would love to rent the same house!

Home again!
I was in heaven once again. The property was fantastic, trade winds, ocean, huge deck to sit out every morning and evening and just take in the beauty and sound of the ocean. Only disappointment, could not just walk from the house straight out into the ocean, due to the horrific erosion that has occurred. Makes my heart cry and go out to all those experiencing this problem. However, one can walk very short distance on path by Kam hwy and be on beach. All in all a perfect location and property❤️

Pure Paradise
From the moment we entered through the gated driveway our entire family was in awe over William's home. It is truly beautiful inside and out.
Upon entering the front door of the main house your breath is instantly taken as you're looking right out into the beautiful ocean. The home was very clean, has lovely beach themed decor and up to date comfortable furniture. The kitchen is stocked with anything you may need to do your vacation cooking. There is also a charcoal grill.
The guest house is just as nice and was perfect for our 2 teenagers and our son and his girlfriend, both in their 20's. The four of them fit comfortably and enjoyed having their own space. My husband I stayed in the main house with our 4 year old...it was beyond perfect and the beds are very comfortable!
Unfortunately due to weather there has been some erosion on the outside of the property, so the patio with grassy area didn't quite look like the photos. Even with that, it didn't damper our stay at all. We made due with the available space and loved every moment of it. Watched the sun set from the patio each night and enjoyed drinking coffee out there as well as the sun came up.
William was very helpful with any questions we had. The neighbor and "house manager", Ken who lives in the house behind this property was also extremely kind and helpful with anything we needed.
It is safe to say we hope we get the opportunity to stay at this house again for years to come. A huge thank you to William and Ken for both making us feel at home in Oahu. Can't wait to go back!

Great Hideaway
We wanted a property away from the city on the beach that fit all of us. We had a total of 7 adults and this property was perfect. Right across the street from great bullet proof coffee and açaí bowls. A mile from the grocery store and great food trucks. Great pillbox hike and great beaches near by with tons of fish. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The property has been upgraded but it is an old beach house. This is exactly what we wanted. It was clean and stocked with most things you needed. We loved having a washer and dryer and outdoor shower to rinse the sand off. They even have beach towels. They didn’t have beach chairs or an umbrella and that would have been nice because they were out of stock all over the island we hunted for them.
The photos/video are dated and the beach when we were there was washed out significantly just in front of our property. The peak of erossion is in front of this property but you have plenty of access to beach on both sides. We watched the surfers the sunsets and walked along the beach. We even snorkeled here and saw some fish. PLEASE! I can’t stress this enough, respect the law and the wildlife and don’t go near the sea turtles. 10ft law. If we want to continue to enjoy them and the beaches we must respect this so important Hawaiian law. Also don’t park on private property or no parking zones. There was plenty of parking on the property for two cars. The property was safe and no worries of theft. Don’t leave any belongings in the car at all while you are traveling in Hawaii. Terrible theft there. The property was secure and safe.
I recommend you bring your earplugs. The surf crashing on the beach was so loud you couldn’t sleep. No need for air conditioning. Great breeze all the time and leave the windows open. Groc are expensive but we cooked at the property and they had most things you need for cooking even a grill. You will enjoy this property if you respect the neighbors and nature. The geckos were so fun to see. I saw other reviews complain about this property but unless you are expecting a resort spa this was a great place and a great part of the island. I would come back here when I have grand kids.

Great Location
The property was clean and great location. AC would have made the sleeping more tolerable. Pics desperately need to be updated on this site as the beach access is NOT what was pictured. Major erosion of the beach has left the property without a safe way to walk to the beach and practically no yard left. I feel for the owner's bout with Mother Nature, but the pics and description need to be updated to reflect what you will find when you visit. We enjoyed our stay, appreciated the caretakers assist, loved the proximity to food trucks, gas station, grocery store, and beach accesses.

Authentic Hawai'i
The Sunset Beach House is perfection. The view of the ocean overwhelms you when you step into the house. This location is truly breathtaking and we spent hours watching the surf by day and the stars by night. Both the main house and the guest house are very clean and tastefully decorated. We have a large family with 3 teens and two 4 year olds and everyone was comfortable with their own space. The kitchen is fully stocked and we cooked several meals there comfortably. We were all in the water for hours everyday. A short storm kicked up some surf while we were there which made it interesting. Of course you need to use your better judgement when entering the ocean. Sunset Beach Park is a short walk along the beach where the water is a bit calmer with a lifeguard on duty.
I grew up in Hawai'i and this location will give you a taste of what Hawai'i was like and still is, away from the city. Owner William Kernot was very nice and easy to deal with. We didn't meet him, but we had no need to contact him as everything was as it should be. Property Manager, Neighbor, and legendary surfer Ken Bradshaw was terrific! We had a chance to visit with him and he answered all of our questions and gave us really great local advice. Ken Bradshaw is also an amazing surf instructor and no one knows the North Shore like he does. This really is paradise and we can't wait to come back!

Great Family Rental
Our family of 7 loved this beachfront property. My 3 older kids loved the guest house which sleeps 3. 10 feet from main, beach front house in a secluded, private, enclosed lot. Much like having a 2nd hotel room. Wonderful location. Kids would walk across the street in the morning to the Sunrise Shack for smoothies and Acai bowls. Sunsets here are magnificent. William the owner and Ken the caretaker are very responsive and fun to talk to. Highly recommend.

These guys were so great to stay with, true Aloha spirit. What a beautiful beach as well and a great view.. washer n dryer on site. closed gate to park behind.. beds are comfortable.
The 4 stars are only cuz the neighboring homes are a little close, but that's Hawaii for you.

What a treat to have your meals outside while watching the surfers on the Pipeline. You'll need to love the sound of pounding surf because it is right there. The property fit everyone's needs. There was nothing we needed since it was equipped with absolutely everything which made our time there so easy. If you rent it, you will miss it when you leave. This house on Sunset beach was beautiful. We lived on the back patio most of the time, because the view was amazing. We didn’t get a lot of people on the beach in front of the house so at times it felt like a private beach. The kitchen had everything that we needed. Private, Perfect Location - A Bit of "Old Hawaii"
Our family (mom and dad, 6-year-old, grandma and great-grandma) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We loved the private, secure location and the near-empty beach which was amazing as the rest of the island was PACKED with tourists/visitors/locals. The 2 separate houses gave an added luxury of having a quiet place to always retreat. The beach is clean and the water/waves not too rough...but we felt a little more secure with our 6-year-old by walking with him a little bit north to the public area of Sunset Beach to play in the water as it was more calm/less of a drop-off than directly in front of the house. One of our group went surf-fishing and caught (and released) 3 humuhumu fish. Walk across Kamehameha Highway to Banzai Bowls for (pricey) breakfast or eat at home as there is a nice renovated kitchen with dishwasher in the main house (small kitchenette in the smaller cottage too). Weber charcoal grill was available and we did a lot of BBQ and ate dinner on the patio watching the waves and sunset. Both cottages are older (built in 1947) beach houses with some upgrades (new windows) and fun old-time Hawaiian decor. Beds were all very comfortable with nice cotton sheets. Didn't see or speak with the property manager which was fine as we had no problems or issues. Would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a true "get-away from the crowds" type of vacation.

The best ever!
Our stay at this property was simply fantastic! The home itself was very comfortable and it had everything we needed for our stay. We were taken aback a bit with the first glance at the landscaping as the erosion from hurricane damage has taken out most of the grass, trees and bushes in front but once we got over that surprise, the view the ocean is so breathtaking!
The waves in front of this home are strong at times but there is a calmer area in front of the lifeguards that I highly recommend. It's not too far down the beach but suggesting walking to that area from the street level instead of the beach unless you have strong legs as we were all tired from carrying all of our beach bags, towels, snorkeling gear, etc to that location. If you are not used to walking in sand, the sidewalk along the street is the way to go for sure!
The home is very centralized with the grocery store 5 minutes away, breakfast shack right across the street for some delicious healthier choices and of course Ted's Bakery is very close by too with delicious breakfast, lunches and bakery items. Lots of food trucks around when not in the mood to cook at home, everything we ate was very fresh and delicious!
At the grocery store they asked for our phone number which I almost didn't give them but so glad we did because we got a discount on our groceries!
We noticed some small lizards inside of the house, don't worry about them, they are keeping the other critters away and they are absolutely beautiful little guys! We loved spotting them whenever they showed up!
We met William (owner) and Ken (caretaker) - both such great guys, loved talking to them very much! You can see both of them are loving the Hawaiian lifestyle for sure!
We can't wait to come back again to this home (our new home away from home) - no more Waikiki for us!
