Proprietors very helpful and responsive to any request we had. Room very spacious and comfortable with all standard facilities although bathroom basin rather on the small side. Should also add that the meals, both breakfast and dinner, were plain, wholesome, straightforward and copious. The chicken curry is particularly recommended

Dislike the abominable custom of paying for the stay immediately upon arrival. However this seems to be becoming standard in UK hotels, so not a specific complaint here. Never encountered this in hotels in France/Italy/Spain. Outwardly the hotel looks somewhat dismal, even scruffy. On arrival we wondered if we'd made a mistake in booking it. But as time went on we realised there was nothing fundamentally wrong - and see above re the proprietors

Decor

I asked for a triple single bed room which is what we got (albeit 2 flights up and no lift as far as I am aware!). The bathroom was clean and well equipped with towels and toiletries. It was local to where we were heading that night and staff were accommodating in sorting out a taxi for us. We literally needed somewhere to sleep that night so this hotel worked well for us. The whole hotel was warm and every where was signposted so easy to find where we were going. Ample parking.

Room could have been cleaner (ie doors, dirty / peeling wallpaper) however this did not affect the good night sleep I got. Slight marks on sheets and pillowcase, but they appear to be old marks, as the bedding was otherwise clean and fresh (if that makes sense). Walls are thin so could hear people coughing very loudly in the morning.

Only used the room for one night, arrived late and left early so didn't make any use of the additional facilities. The bed was clean and comfy, the room was warm, the radiator was on and I was able to open windows for air circulation. The shower was clean and hot and bathroom clean. The lady at reception when I arrived was very welcoming and friendly.

A reasonably quiet location. The triple room we had was perfectly adequate for our 2 night stay. Breakfast was freshly cooked each morning and set us up nicely for the day.

Only thing to comment on is the noisy plumbing which resonates throughout the wing of the building we were staying in.
