We loved our weekend at the Berne Chalet.
Beautiful surroundings, fresh ground coffee, and bakery perks. What more do you need? Maybe a huge TV screen, jigsaw puzzles, vintage vinyl records, and comfy beds? And a bear sighting! Yes please!

What a wonderful weekend getaway for our family and two dogs at Berne Chalet! It truly feels like you are up in the mountains yet only minutes to downtown! We enjoyed the top and bottom floors, with enough room for four adults and two dogs… room to spare really. The beds are extremely comfortable and the living space has plenty of seating. The kitchen is stocked with all you need to cook a nice meal, with a few condiments and spices available as well. Coffee and cookies await… and dog treats for the pups. The outdoor porch was a favorite of ours… we enjoyed our morning coffee and the cool mountain air. We even saw a black bear! Berne Chalet is so convenient to downtown but is a beautiful respite from the busy crowds. We enjoyed wandering the shops one day and then river tubing the next with Zen tubing. We hope to visit again! Judy was a terrific host and went out of her way to help us log in to the tv to watch the first weekend of college football! Thank you for a beautiful place to make some family memories!

Worked great as our quiet base camp to explore Ashville. Great grill in upstairs chalet for cooking outside.

Nestled on a hill surrounded by trees. Comfortable and well appointed. The front porch was a gem for morning coffee and overall relaxing. You had the feeling you were far away from civilization, yet, there was a grocery store and gas station 0.2 miles away!

The property live up to our expectations and some.Super dog friendly. The management was excellent. We had a slight plumbing problem and they sent a plumber out within an hour. We were able to access management after hours for a door lock problem which was fixed with in minutes. We look forward to booking next year.

My sisters and I enjoyed everything about the rental. The little touches here and there made it very homey. It was easy to get downtown. We would for sure recommend it to others.

Very nice place to stay. Quiet yet close to everything. Saw bears and deer

Both the upper and lower units were exceptionally clean and comfortable. The location is quiet and beautiful, just minutes from downtown Asheville. There were thoughtful amenities for pets including dog treats and beds, and delicious cookies for human guests!

Too many spiders inside of property, especially lower level. Downstairs seems more modern and updated than upper Berne. Peeling ceiling in upper bathroom

My Friends and I enjoyed our experience. They thought of everything you may need for a comfortable stay. From robes to delicious cookies from their bakery. The location is perfect! Tucked away up in the peaceful woods, yet close to all of the activities Ashville has to offer. I will definitely stay again.

We loved our stay at this clean and ideally located chalet. The location given up privacy for us to appreciate the mountain air, and enough proximity to get to everywhere we wanted to go in less than 15 minutes.
We rented both the upstairs and downstairs and were very pleased with the amenities and cleanliness. Also love the nice touches that were geared towards our dog.
The owners were very responsive to our questions. The only suggestion I would give is pay attention to the directions. It was rough to find the first time 😁

The location was perfect for my daughters wedding at Homewood.
We relaxed immediately. Every room was like new and the beds were comfortable. Great water pressure and one of the dog friendliest VrBo we have experienced.

We stayed for a Christmas holiday in Asheville.
We rented both upper and lower Berne. We took our three dogs. The units are great for family and dogs.
Upper unit has two bedrooms, 1 bath and enough family room seating for five. Dinner table can sit six.
Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, spices etc. we have never had such a well stocked kitchen - thank you!
Also set up well for dogs with a fuzzy bed, small water bowls and treats.
This unit has the upstairs deck that is gated and safe for pups. Also a small deck off the dining room.
There is a sloped walkway downstairs to parking and the entrance of the lower unit.
Lower unit is a small one-bedroom apartment. Again well stocked. This one does not have a dishwasher. Or washer/dryer. Both are located upstairs. Again small water bowl and dog towels.
This unit has a side screened in patio that leads to the fenced in space for dogs. Big enough and perfect to let the pups out for a potty break.
The location is about 20 mins to Biltmore and less than 10 to the downtown area. Excellent location.
Clean. Super well stocked. Enough closet space. Robes. They really do all the nice touches to make it an enjoyable stay.
We were there for Christmas and the tree was up and lots of lovely decorations.
Thank you! Highly recommend!

This property worked out great for us. My eldest daughter brought her to mid-size dogs and stayed on the bottom level while the rest of us were upstairs. It was easy for us to move between the two levels. The location was also convenient - close to downtown, restaurants, et al.

We rented the whole house - the Upper Berne and Lower Berne. Both places were very clean; each kitchen was very well-stocked (the best I've experienced when renting a VRBO); the house was well-appointed with everything one needed during their stay. The location was perfect - nestled in the woods, but a five-ten minute drive to downtown Asheville. The outdoor porches were an added bonus. I would highly recommend this place to folks visiting Asheville. The owners were very responsive and made sure our stay was comfortable - the free cookies upon arrival set the mood for our vacation!

Great location to downtown and local attractions. We went fishing, hiking, Biltmore and River Arts District.

The space was perfect for a great and refreshing weekend with my friends. The spot is equally remote and quaint while also being a quick uber ride away from downtown Asheville

Property was the mix we were looking for feeling removed from town in the trees, but very close when we wanted to go into the city.

We enjoyed it. We rented the entire property. My wife and I enjoyed the smaller unit on the bottom floor and it was awesome. Nice and cozy. My “kids” (22 and 19) shared the upstairs property. At that age, they needed their own space. But, it also allowed us to remain close to each other. All the best restaurants (and Downtown Asheville) were literally 5 to 10 minutes away. Plus, we had no trouble getting an Uber for dinner in the evening if we were having drinks. A great property and a good time had by all!

This property is amazing if you are looking for a clean, pet friendly, well-run place with the feeling of being in nature while also just being minutes away from downtown Asheville. The owners/managers are incredibly communicative and responsive. The water was turned off for a brief bit of time when some construction work was being done nearby and they were so on it- answering our call right away and following up with us in minutes about the status of the work. There were so many nice touches for our pets including their own towels, food/water bowl, blankets for couches, etc. Highly recommend a stay here!

Great house, conveniently located and worked well for our group.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The beds and couches were very comfortable. We did not use the kitchen but it was stocked well. The driveway is a little confusing at first but the directions provided were clear! Note that it’s a steep drive up as well.

Great pet-friendly property in a good location. Nice to sit on the front deck or side porch. Rented both units for 3 couples and 2 dogs.

We went for a sisters getaway. They had a welcome card and a birthday treat for my sister (turning 60) was very sweet.
We all enjoyed our stay.

This was a great experience. Having two separate living areas but yet still close enough to socialize was perfect. Very pet friendly with unexpected and thoughtful perks for our fur babies (treats, bowls, towel for their use). Clean and comfortable. The coupons to the Well Bred Bakery were appreciated and we actually visited two days in a row :)

We recently rented both the upper unit and lower units which were great as we had 2 different groups. This gave everyone plenty of privacy yet we were all of a 2 minute walk up the sidewalk away. Both units were very clean and well furnished and had coffee makers, etc. The only thing that could be a little tricky is the winding driveway if you have a larger vehicle (I have an F-150) but it is no problem as long as you're experienced parking it in tighter spaces. Overall this is a great place to stay and I'll definitely book it again the next time I'm in the area!

From the very start, I got a warm and fuzzy feeling about this chalet. The owner reached out to us because it was a special occasion, and made everything extra special--our daughter got engaged!! The owner thought of everything and you didn't have to worry about leaving home without something you'd need because it was there! She even left gluten-free cookies in the chalet because my daughter is celiac! Soo sweet! It was super clean and cozy, and we'd highly recommend it!! Stay at the Chalet, you won't be disappointed!! Thank you for everything! Can't wait to go back!

We all enjoyed our stay in Asheville! The area is amazing. We rented both upstairs and downstairs, they were decorated for Christmas which was a nice touch. The cookies were the best! We really love Asheville and we will be back for sure.

We stayed for an entire week leading up to my daughters wedding in Asheville. We had use of the upper and lower units of this house and both were perfectly appointed, incredibly clean, and extremely well located to all of our venues. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our stay so much, we’re planning on returning in the spring. The chalet is perfect for family and pups. The fenced yard is priceless, the pups enjoyed being able to have a yard to play in. The porches are gorgeous and have amazing views. We enjoyed doing our morning yoga on porches and then enjoying then for a relaxing evening hang out.
Our family enjoyed being so close to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore, yet having the feeling of being in a private chalet that was quiet and relaxing.

Property was great! Couldn’t of asked for a better location to downtown for the price.

Amazing Mountain GetAway!
What a fabulous home and place to stay for the weekend, the whole family really enjoyed our time here. Very clean and lots of nice touches to help you feel welcome and understand how to use the property. Highly recommend. Note, the roads to the homes are very very narrow, I wouldn’t recommend a big vehicle or you may end up in a precarious situation.

Ashville NC - Swiss Chalet Berne Upper & Lower Rental Units
The location is central to most Asheville activities. The grounds are beautiful, green and lush. You feel like you are in the woods, but you are minutes from everything. The property we rented has an upper and lower unit with separate entrances. Very nice for staying with friends. You are close but have your own space. Both units are nicely furnished. The upper unit is larger than the lower and you could easily and comfortably entertained guest. One issue is no guest parking. The management team stated you could park in certain areas of the property, but those are the same areas needed to complete the extra driving maneuvers to access the property. The property is very pet friendly as is the management team. They left us delicious cookies for the humans and dog biscuits for our dog. Asheville is a liberal small-ish city with a vibrant dining and entertainment. The Biltmore Estate is a must see. There is plenty of outdoor hiking nearby. Chimney Rock State Park is spectacular and only a short drive away.
The only reason I scored this property 4 out of 5 stars is because the road system in the immediate vicinity of all the chalets is antiquated. The road surface is great. The road width and layout are an extreme challenge unless you are driving a small vehicle. We had our full size truck and found ourselves doing 3 and 5 point turns to access our unit every time we departed and returned. The beautiful landscape exacerbates the situation by hanging into the roadways and over the top. Many times we had branches scraping our vehicle.
I would not let any of the negatives I noted stop you from traveling to Asheville or staying at the Chalets. These are tidbits I wish we knew so we would have been physically prepared, with our smaller vehicle, and mentally prepared, realizing Asheville is not a sleepy mountain city but a real city with real city issues.
We would rent this property again.

Wonderful stay close to downtown
We truly enjoyed the stay here. It was just the two of us and our two dogs, but we rented both upstairs and downstairs since it was an anniversary trip. It was to far to walk to downtown, but only a 5 minute drive. There is a walking trail within yards of the entrance and the back yard was great for the dogs for quick bio trips. They even had bags in the back to pick up. We had an issue with a light and it was promptly taken care of. We stayed upstairs and it had everything we needed. We would stay again!

Awesome Chalet Up on The Hill
Spent a weekend renting the Full Berne (both upper and lower units). Units were well stocked with paper products, soaps, etc. and very clean!! Beds are super comfortable and overall the space is nice an cozy. We really were surprised how close the property is to downtown Asheville, which is a very short drive. Note, the drive is up some narrow switchbacks but that's typical for any mountain town. Would highly recommend this rental and we hope to stay again!
