Great location - Room size is okay - Bed and pillows were nice - water pressure good
NO GPS can find this hotel - When I did end up finding the car park I ended up having to pay twice for the car park, once via machine, then within the hotel, just a pain. was a part of a Wedding party, but as booked via booking.com, missed out on the breakfast included and upgrade - Was not worried about the breakfast as it ended at 09.30, which I feel is way too early ! Room was cold. No lift ( had large bags) - bar prices very expensive -

The lounge area was nice and the staff there were friendly.
The room 212 was at the back so had no WiFi at all, which was generally ok on the days we were busy but on the evening where we wanted to relax and not do anything, was quite annoying.

It was clean, comfortable, and central,
There was no view at all. There was no fresh air.

The decor ,staff were nice ,
Sash window didn't stay open ,room to hot ,
No water & no biscuits in room ,shower took ages to use only one tiny set of draws for clothes ,bedside tables had dummy draws couldn't use them

The shower was good and bathroom had good lighting.
My bed was hard. There was only a duvet, no top sheet, which makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the duvet. I was itchy in the bed. The room was dusty as it hadn't been stayed in in awhile. The room I was put in was way at the top of the building, not that I have an issue with stairs, but the floor upstairs is so old it's uneven making you feel drunk when you walk on it. There wasn't a hairdryer in the room, not that I expect it, just that it's usually a given in most hotels. I didn't sleep well.

Great location
Noisy air vent or extractor of some sort, at night

The architecture, the welcome, the rooms, the sleep and the breakfast were all outstanding. It's a step back in time – in a good way – there's even an exposed C14th wattle-and-daub wall, but that is all blended with modern hotel facilities and service. Truly a 10/10 experience. I would definitely recommend the George as a place to stay in Colchester and will be back if I'm in the area again.
The shower was OK, just OK. But it didn't detract from the stay at all.

The history. The bar. The bathroom
The room could have used a little more furniture -- e.g., a second chair.
4.1
very central location
clean and parking nearby
no lift and steep stairs to the 2nd floor
4.1
location good on the high street with car park to rear of hotel
my room was noisy with other residents passing by my door, as the hotel is quite old floorboards are very squeaky, which is a little annoying

The 3/4 rooms in the actual hotel were lovely. Decor.
I had booked 4 rooms in The George but 1 had to be across the road instead. Not at all happy! This is NOT what I booked. The room in the St Nicholas was over the road, noisy with windows open but no air con, so then boiling. A nice room but I had specifically wanted to stay at the George, so no frills for us!
Girl on reception on check-in was very flippant when I was clearly upset that this had happened. She said it would all be in the booking details from Booking.com - which it wasn’t. It transpired that in fact the problem was with the hotel and it’s allocation of rooms from a central reservation?? The next day breakfast was given complimentary as a token of an apology.

I booked to this hotel via booking .com
Try to give my wife some relaxation
I rely on her being disabled myself
I wanted to take the strain off her but
My wife was taken very ill travelling to the hotel
So we couldn't make the stay. Hospital instead..
They refused to return our money
No emotion
Was told the management would call me
Nothing heard from them
They not interested.
This is how they treat the disabled

The entrance and main staircase
The bathroom door was in a very awkward position and getting up the night had to figure out which way it opened. Room only cleaned o; two days nd had to get tea and coffee from reception
4.1
Room was cold and had no main light. Had to turn on the bedside lights and then walk back the main switch to the hall was to turn the hallway light off.

Perfect location, food is 10/10
I had bed bugs in my bed. Was bitten all over during my stay. This isn’t common, I have stayed a few times before with no issue.

great building with a real sense of history
pillows were very poor resulting in a poor nights sleep

Gorgeous hotel with lots of history. Friendly staff and cute pub
I accidentally left my jacket in the wardrobe in the room when I checked out. When I called and emailed the next day to inquire about my jacket, the staff said it was not found. This is very disappointing as it was hanging in the wardrobe when I left. Surely it would have been found by housekeeping and turned into the lost and found. I find it unfathomable that the hotel staff said it was not found. I know it’s my fault for forgetting the jacket, but it seems suspicious that it was “not found” by housekeeping less than 24 hours after checking out. Very disappointing.

beautiful room, bath was absolutely amazing
no room service in the evening as too busy - was definitely a disappointment as wanting cocktails. however, still excellent service all round otherwise and I could see that the restaurant and bar was heaving

The St Nicolas is where we had to send my parents due to your total lack of mobility access at the George. it was clean on the first of the two nights but on day 2 it wasn’t cleaned at all and we didn’t realise this until we arrived home from a long difficult day at the funeral for which we had come to the England. as well as not being cleaned there were no new towels left either
it wasn’t a hotel at all but a room similar to having a student residences than a hotel. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH THE GEORGE ON THE PHONE FOR OVER A WEEK AND when We did it was someone offsite who put me in touch via email or some kind of
messenger someone had answered the phone in the week before our arrival which they didn’t in the actual hotel across the road The George then this non hotel status could have been explained to us. my parents are elderly and my father was there to bury his brother having flown from Ireland and certainly didn’t want to be apart from the rest of the funeral party who were staying in the George.
if they had to be in a separate building due to your lack of accessibility at the George then it would have been less traumatic for them if the St Nicolas Hotel was an actual hotel with a reception, a bar a common area like a lobby. in the time I should have been able to relax and get some food at the bar before it shut or locally I was busy trying to find an alternative for my family to their very unsuitable Accomodation
