Absolutely gorgeous hotel and grounds, staff are exceptional and atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing and romantic getaway. I could have stayed for much longer. This is not a party hotel, it’s very quiet and the beach was almost empty when we were there (during the off season) — food and drinks are great. We will definitely be back.

security and wait staf were attentive

the lack of accommodation by management. the neighbor above is was drunk and obnoxious. the staf couldn’t keep him from yelling slamming doors and making a fuss. we asked to move. the hotel is at 10 % capacity at the most. we literally saw 8 other guests in 48 hours. There was no option to move to an equal room we had already paid for. At $800 per night for a superior junior suite they put us on a smaller room trying sell it off as an upgrade because it faces the ocean. well you can’t see the ocean for the trees but it was also a much smaller room. I asked to have an equal value room 6 others available but was denied. when I asked to pay for an better room o was told no. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels all over the world and have never run into an empty hotel in willing to accommodate for a situation they weren’t able to handle.

This Stylish and Boutique Hotel and Spa is one that I will recommend for those that like elegance, great food, drinks, and a peaceful environment. I work for the Airline industry, this place is great for any event or quick stay.

Unfortunately the marketing for this property is terribly misleading. Apart from the main lobby interiors which is very nice, the rest of the hotel does not have a welcoming appeal. It's very old, dated and Playa Dorada is like an abandoned walled off resort. Housekeeping on the other hand do a good job (in the second room we were offered). And Nelson was a good waiter in the restaurant.

- Reception staff were not very helpful or flexible. - The first room we were given stank of cigarette and men's cologne - you could not breathe in there. It did not feel clean at all. - Second room was fine, but still had an old mould smell - The resort was completely deserted. It seems Playa Dorada was once popular but now has nothing to offer. - Getting stung in the foot by the many many wasps on the beach. - Instagram portrays a very different vibe which is the total opposite to the reality of this very old hotel which might only be suitable to older generations looking for this style - Apparently the hotel was busy or full but we rarely saw any other guests. The nice communal areas that should have been setup for guests to enjoy at the front by the beach were not fully set up with lights and music and all the comforts of a good vibe. - The restaurant was ok, nothing amazing to rave about. Overall, we booked 5 nights but left after the first. I can't recommend the hotel or the area.

The price and the beach

After 15 years of travelling throughout the Dominican Republic, this is the best place we have stayed at. Spacious yet small enough to not need a golf cart to go to restaurants and the beach. Beautiful architecture, decor and furnishings. Great food. Perfect beach. Quiet. Friendly.

Only one minor thing: the junior suite balconies are so close to each other you can shake hands with your neighbors.

Room Elina Dona was noisy due to the adjacent path which was constantly used by staff with trolleys. We were moved / upgraded to a beachfront room which was very quite.

Friendly staff, very accommodating to all the needs. Large comfortable room. Fresh food prepared simple and beautiful. Manuel at the reception is amazing!

Everything, this hotel is immaculate and honestly seemed reasonably priced (maybe even cheap!) in the bar and restaurant for the quality. We would have stayed here for at least one extra night if we had known it would be so great.

Breakfast was great! I loved the service at the beach. Staff brings towel to you & I didn’t have to return the towel or be responsible for it. Cushions on beach chairs were very comfortable. No bracelet to prove your a guest.

I think housekeeping could’ve done a better job replacing towels.

It is a small boutique hotel with all the amenities available. A great place to unwind and relax.
