The area near the hotel is bad, especially at night, The entrance is dark and shady.

Seems like reality is different from the reviews and ratings. There was loud and annoying noise all the night from the factory building next to the hotel, I didn't sleep all the night. Dirty towels, with the visible spots. They didn't washed them correctly. Used condom in the radioator. Hard to find the way back to the hotel in the evening when market you used to go through is closed. Wi Fi didn't work at all, so I used my mobile internet.

Excellent value for money, nearby metro station makes it a great budget location to explore the city center. Great restaurant nearby, also a marketplace if you're not afraid to barter with the locals.

Location is a bit rough.

Hotel Barbaris is a nice little hotel for the low budget traveller. The hotel is run by some very charming and friendly babushkas! The standard is ok, and it's situated 150 meters from a main road and the Metro, while still fairly quiet. All kinds of shops are also very near, as well as the hotel cafe and a pub right outside. There's air condition and constant hot water, something not to be taken for granted in Ukrainian hotels. Wifi was poor in my room, but ok in the cafe. Cleanliness was good, and I appreciated that this hotel did not feel the need to barge in early in the morning every day uninvited to clean. Put the sign on your doorknob, and they'll come. Be aware that the hotel is inside a gated area closed at night (which has a good fresh produce market and various stalls in daytime), the 24/7 reception is a sleeping one, and you have to ring a bell to get inside. So don't do as I did and stay out too late, the babushkas need their sleep too :) Good value for money, and I'd come back!

Poor wifi in my room, possibly better in others. Ok in the cafe. The cafe staff was efficient, but constantly grumpy. What little food I had there was not too great either

The place

I forgot an expensive haircut machine there and i tried to call them but they said that they cannot find my name in their records and they told me that they didn't find anything. Basically they lie. I would not recomand this hotel. In terms of place..great..but if you forget something there...they will not recognise.

Hotel is at a good place in the centre of Kyiv. Not far from a metro station. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was pleasure to try my Ukrainian and speak for a while. Price was very good at the New Year and that made me to choose this hotel.
