Location is just perfect, right in the heart of the old city, 3 minutes walk from the Western Wall. We also liked the medieval setting, it's a bit like sleeping in a middle age castle. It is very hard to find though. There are no signs whatsoever, and Google Maps wants to take you through paths that don't exist. The hostel is located at a military checkpoint, where only muslims can go through, this means two things for you: security (possibly, given the amount of police/military right outside of the hostel) and it also means that you can only approach the hostel FROM THE WEST, when looking at the map. To the east there is this gate, which is also the military checkpoint (and the exit of the Dome of the Rock). So be sure to arrive from the west, when you reach the checkpoint, turn left and enter the (unmarked) door behind the orange juice stand. You have to walk through the orange juice stand actually.
Our reason for leaving a low rating is mainly hygiene. Of course it is a simple and cheap hostel, that could still get a high rating in its category, but it is no excuse for the lack of hygiene unfortunately. There is only one toilet and shower for the rooms that have shared bathroom (the shower is just a hose above the toilet), you can see it in one of the shared rooms' photos. The toilet seat was broken and there was water everywhere all the time (given that people shower standing 10cm from the toilet). The bathroom door cannot be locked. There was no hot water when we tried. What's even more concerning is hygiene in the kitchen, everything was really filthy, including the fridge. There were dead insects in our room and hair on our bedsheet. Also be prepared for much noise (people shouting) from the street during the night. Our room had no window (we didn't care about the last two things, and they are not their fault, but there are people who might care). Again, the main problem is hygiene. In addition, out of the 4 members of the staff that we met, 2 were not too nice to us, also they probably spoke no English at all. One of them was very kind and helpful though.

Location was the best! On the door step of Al-Aqsa compound. Perfect!!!
The breakfast could be improved. The kitchen area and kitchen equipment needs an upgrade. Other than these place is value for money!

The owner talk in the hall during the whole night, I couldn't sleep at all. Beautiful old stone building but Iheard everything loud speaking (even scary screening) from the other chambers and from those who spoked during the night right in front of my door.

Location is within walking distance to old crusader gate access to temple mount. Very unique architecture, ornaments and vibe. Super convenient access to Western Wall.
Checkpoints are seriously exposed, Police have to accommodate to tourist traffic and/or security situation. Tensions may have negative effect on travellers, in particular in terms of refunds. Important travel may have their luggage or important travel documents exposed to unstable security situation. Upper ceiling was crumbling.

Location was the only Potential plus, close to Old town
It was not very cleanly but i could live with that. Worst thing was the noice all night long, seriously crazy Shouting, laughter and talking from across the wall sounded like it was right in our room.

The location was very good - in the Old Town. One night we needed to get to another part of the town and the owner (I think it was the owner) took us there in his tuk tuk. The staff were brilliant. Every time we came back from an outing we were offered bottled water from the fridge. The room was very basic with terribly thin walls and we could hear everything that went on in the other side. Breakfast was provided and although good it was the same every day. A bit of variety would have been good.

The location of the hostel was exceptional, since it is inside the old city and right next to Temple Mount. Security was good since there is a 24/7 Police presence and Police station directly opposite the hostel. Breakfast was ok and filling. Staff were friendly for the most part and accommodating under the circumstances. Internet was good and was able to get access throughout the hostel and could even stream movies on Netflix. Hostel is inside a historical building.
Unable to access Temple Mount from Chain Gate, unless you are Muslim, but this was not the fault of the hostel or staff. Very noisy during the night due to the solid walls of the hostel and echo and the Police talking and making their own noise 24/7. Breakfast was not consistent and basic. Only one shower which did have hot water, but minimal water pressure and shower was inside the toilet area which was dirty and small. Sink was also dirty. Pillows, sheets and blanket not fully clean. Just overall the hostel had a dirty feel throughout. We were shown a Booking.com rating for this hostel of 8.9 and this is undeserved, please note.

Extremely close to Al Aksa. Just remember it is in the Muslim Quarter after the Jewish control barricade. I have got extra upgrade for my booking and I slept in twin room, was really nice suprise from the owner of hostel.
Could be a little bit cleaner

Great price and location right by the Temple Mount in the Old City. The hostel is located in an old traditional building right by the Chain Gate. Great for a short stay in Jerusalem. The breakfast was pretty good and enough for the money.
When I arrived the bed sheets on my bed weren't fresh, they were obviously used by a previous guest. Overall the place is not that clean, especially the bathrooms. Endurable for a short stay.

location, includes breakfast
nonexistent tools for the kitchen, no flatware, no locks to secure belongings, beds are old and rickety

The only good thing about the hotel is its location and maybe breakfast, which is chaotic but abundant and served by a woman who was the only nice person of the staff.
I massively disliked everything else. All dirty, the toilet is constantly wet -the shower is literally a tap by the wc with no curtain and no nothing so it is always full of water- and everytime you go inside someone starts shouting because they want to enter as well -usually some of the boss' friends, who kinda live by the hostel's door-, the room they made us sleep in was simply inhabitable. Be careful of the linen and make sure it is not dirty when they give you the room: we had to insist a lot in order to get it clean and changed. Ah, and the guy has basically ripped off us 100€.

The best part was location. When u take 15 steps, u re in Masjid Al Aqsa. Secondary best stuff was free coffee and tea. Thirdly, I was in 8 more people in the same room. It may seem bad at first, but they were nice people and it was great to talk to them.
Having same room with about 10 more people may be problematic.
Owners were a bit reckless about your sleeping. They do not care to open lights about 8a.m. and u may wake up with high voices about 10a.m.

There is no window in the room. The rooms had a direct opening to another room wall so we ca hear the other people talking.

As others have already pointed out it may not be the cleanest hostel you have seen and yes during religious days you may find more men than women there, but it never felt unsafe. I was actually treated like nowhere else, offered home-made food, tea and coffee every day, I had beautiful and respectful conversations in the yard and met interesting people from different cultures. And yes, it is a small adventure to get there, but who doesn’t like that? I would choose it again without any doubt

cosy because of people at night outside on porche
light goes on too much, no rules at night. It gives a lot of unrest. no rules posted on quiet time.

location is great, in middle of old city
dirty, not much sleep as people came in and turned on light every 30 mins or so, some people seemed to live in the dorm and took calls in the middle of the night etc. no hot water, freezing shower, and at breakfast they tried to charge me for water haha. you get a bed and a toilet but it is definitely the most basic of basic which isn’t really reflected in the price

some of the beds, mattresses had springs coming out. shower facilities are very poor and could do with a revamp
