The advertising was amazing! The ability to sell a dream that is far from reality and the photographer also has to be complimented in his skill at making something magical out of what we found.

Where to begin? Whilst accepting the premise that one man's meat is another man's poison, we are still struggling to come to terms with the discrepancy between what we were sold, the reviews and what we found. This was supposed to be a relaxing stay at the end of a long trek around Malaysia - to kick back and relax slightly off the beaten track, perhaps stroll down to the jetty and look at the fishing boats, a swim from the nearby beach before breakfast, sitting in the garden outside our heritage cottage with a book, walking up to a family run restaurant ..... ass as per the description - absolutely not true! Our daughter arrived some hours before us and had a good chance to look around the area ahead of us and take photos to support our review. The property: in fairness we didn't get to see the main house, but our accommodation was basic by any standards with poor quality bedding, concrete floors covered with dirty mats, very unappealing bathroom. The garden was poorly maintained gravel with a few pots - the beach appeared to be accessible only by climbing over some very challenging rocks to a small strip of sand littered with plastic. We're not sure which of the run-down shacks lining the dirt track to the property was the family run Chinese restaurant - could it have been the one with a few plastic chairs on a verandah? The area surrounding the property was littered with huge concrete pipes (see photos) - the dirt track off the main road led both our taxi drivers to question whether we'd got the right address! We were booked here for 3 days but were unable to stay. We have tried to negotiate with the owner who feels a small goodwill payment from booking.com is enough - we paid the same here as a luxury 4* hotel in Kuala Lumpur! You may wish to judge for yourself but I really wouldn't bother ....

The highlight was the welcome and friendliness of our lovely hosts, Patty and her sister Sue. Renting their car, and on reasonable terms, proved very helpful in enabling us to explore the island and visit the many sights that Patty so helpfully recommended. We greatly enjoyed their company and the breakfasts we were able to order from Sue.

Unfortunately a lot of construction work was ongoing in the vicinity - but it was lovely to see the fishing boats at the nearby jetty.

We were very nicely welcomed by Patty and Susan. They helped us make our stay unforgettable. They helped us booking a scooter and give us ample addresses to visit and to eat. The house has kept a lot of its original charm. It feels like being back in a kampong. It is a unique setting, far away from the maddening crowd. The kitchen has all facilities and Patty provides a simple yet nice DIY breakfast.

We have seen pictures of the house as it was in the past, on the beach. That must have been fantastic. Unfortunately things have changed since and the surroundings are less appealing. But this is more than compensated by the magnificent house and very welcoming hosts. Definitely a unique experience!

Nice cosy place, adjacent to a spectacular family home, i.e., home of the owner that studied and lived in the UK, Spain and Switzerland. Paty has been very friendly and helpful througout the stay. It was also convenient to rent her car for a day at a very fair price.
