Everyone was very friendly, especially with our 5 year old daughter. We also enjoyed using the swimming pool in the evenings. The hotel was within walking distance of a beautiful coastline, and we could wake up every morning with some amazing scenery. Hotel also had some nice day trips on offer.
I do like a big breakfast, and the full English portion was a lot less than I'm used to. There isn't much on offer for children, in terms of breakfast variety so we did have to buy our own yoghurts (not an option on the set menu, or fruit either) and bnb's we've stayed at have gone above and beyond to cater for our daughter. Service was a little slow on a couple of days, and the breakfast times weren't made clear (we came down at 8:30 am on our final day, and breakfast was served at 8am). No WiFi in bedrooms, and we had to go into certain areas to get a signal, so struggled to keep a child entertained. Entertainment was good but does appeal to a much older clientele. Hotel does need updating, and with the thin flooring we could hear heavy snoring for 4 nights in a row, so our sleep wasn't the best.

The location was situated in a nice area but the hotel was disappointing

The location, the view and relaxed atmosphere
The lift was a bit scary

The stay was amazing, reasonable prices at the bar, rooms was clean and tidy, the rooms was quite big and came with a sea view which was unexpected. Hotel staff was so accommodating, don't let the bad reviews put you off. You get what you pay for and more.
The only issue's i found was parking was a little tight to manoeuvre but still a free carpark. The breakfast was a standard breakfast but could do with a few more options

I would like to complain about my stay at Abbey lawn hotel The hotel itself was at an OK standard however one of the staff members was not On arrival I was waiting a long period of time before being seen once approached by the receptionist He said I assume you've paid gave us are key and rushed us on our way didn't explain anything to us I asked about breakfast as that was included he said I would have to come downstairs in the morning to get my table number Then continued blaming booking.com Then in the morning I waited outside reception for my table number For a long period of time again Then had to go and find a member of staff In which the manager was helping in the kitchen To then have to wait in the hallway in front of everybody for a table Then when coming out of the swimming pool I was approached by the original member of staff That I had spoken to He then went on to say that it was booking's fault We paid for dinner in which there was a surprise visit from santa Again he made us feel an inconvenience as he verbally said out loud Well your hair you might as well have one To my daughter in which that was a present And then top all of that off I spent most of the night reassuring my Daughter that she was going to be OK Because there was 2 gentlemen and a woman who came into our hotel room using a key saying that they had been allocated this bedroom In which the gentleman become quite aggressive verbally And told me I had to go and solve it My partner then went down to the receptionist he had said to him he did wonder why the key wasn't there Again going on to blaming booking Which is outrageous as booking is not who allocates the rooms I am completely disgusted with this receptionist behaviour I felt like I was a Inconvenience I did not feel welcome what so ever I hardly slept last night And I'm feeling quite emotional because of the situation with the people coming into the room in the night I hope something can be done about this

Location was good
After checking in, went out for dinner, upon arriving back at the hotel we were double checked who we were ! Really ! And really uncomfortable bed, absolutely no instructions for breakfast and after approaching a waitress for help, didnt really know what to say, then asked another member of staff, who informed me that 3 members haven't turned up and we would get breakfast at some point , no idea when. We just left ! Not great

breakfast was poor

The hotel is just ten minutes walk from the center. The area is very quiet. Great bonus that there is a car park (although not big enough if every guest had a car).
We were lucky to get a sea view room (which compensated all the cons) but I think the street view wouldn’t be bad either.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The great bonus is an indoor pool.
Cheap drinks in a bar and every day entertainment although more for a 60 plus.
Hotel is quite dated so if you’re fussy about decor then it’s not for you. Apparently it’s under a new management and it’s slowly being renovated.
Floor is super squeaky and you can hear people next room walking.
As I mentioned there is a nice pool although the pool area is dated and untidy.
The lobby, conservatory, terrace and bar are ok but they could benefit with some styling and more intimate lights (floor and table lamps) so they wouldn’t look so empty (there is a great potential).
Cleaning should also be improved as there was a lot of dust in my room, it doesn’t take long to clean a couple of lamps, headboard and top of the wardrobe (I did it myself in one minute). Not to mention a shower, my husband lifted a cover from drainage and it was full with hair.
About the food. Hotel offers breakfast and three course evening meal. Breakfast was ok, typical English or different egg variations. Unfortunately dinner was a disaster. Looks like the chef has no taste and doesn’t use salt and other spices at all. There were a few dishes that I would be embarrassed to serve to the guests (leak and potato soup tasted like water after boiling potatoes without salt, cheesecake probably never seen a cheese). My husband always had a roast or fish and he said it was ok but without a gravy the meat wasn’t really seasoned. I’m vegetarian so my main dishes were a little more tasty only because they must have used a ready made curry and Chinese sauces, my lasagne wasn’t as bad but there was no tomato sauce in it which is a basic ingredient in lasagne. Veggies in both my curry and noddles were very basic and actually more Mediterranean than Asian (they basically used the same veggies in lasagne, curry and stir fry). Honestly the chef or chefs have still lots to learn about cooking. For me it looks like they are stuck in a wrong job and have no passion for cooking at all.

The hotel was 15 minutes walk from the main part of town, the patio had a lovely seating area.
The hotel could do with a lot of work to bring it up to a reasonable standard, the room we had was hot even with the windows open and heating turned off, breakfast was at 08:30 and was delivered to the table as and when someone was passing on the last morning we ordered breakfast at the table and the main course came followed by the orange juice then toast then coffee then the butter for the toast.

Proximity to town centre, sea front/marina is great.
The staff are friendly.
Sea views from room.
We couldn't park on site when we arrived.
Bathroom was a bit dated. The shower was poor.
Reception staff were new and couldn't answer simple questions e.g. what time is breakfast? This will improve with experience, but obviously wasn't great service.

Night staff were very polite.
Dirty room. Room was trapped in the 70's.Shower was awful, very difficult to achieve a constant temperature. Very squeaky floorboards Bedside lamp opposite side of the room from the bed. . Rickety bed. Lift was very unnerving. Breakfast was below par, ie, luke warm no variety, very small..Indoor pool was nothing like the picture as in size, very small. No male changing so unusable.

The view of the bay from the room was exceptional. The layout of the family room was good.
Broken shower, no hot water, late breakfast and creaky floorboards
1.4 / 5.0
The unmanned pool, which the new staff barely knew where it was located, was the only good feature.
Room too small, not clean enough, dog hairs in second room. Bathrooms awful. No staff about, had to find someone to get service. Not family friendly. Way too hot. Bed too old and didn't hardly sleep.
1.0 / 5.0
The bed sheets were clean but that’s about it.
Very thin walls. TV on very loud until 4AM next door.
Went down to reception to find member of staff asleep.
Unable to provide me with an invoice.
Atrocious service and a very uncomfortable and disturbed stay.
Avoid!

It’s well located, about a ten minute walk to the town centre.
This is an ageing hotel, which I am normally fine with. Though this hotel needs major refurbishment and it is not helped by its staff members and management.
I work in retail and so perhaps I’m just conscious as to what I’ve seen. Staff shouldn’t be able to gather outside the main entrance and smoke and chat together. Where I work, staff are required to enter from a different door or near the kitchens to the far left away from the main entrance to the hotel out the way. Surely on a staff break, this should be done in a designated area. This gives a professional first impression. Staff were helpful, though were all in different attire and seemed to be fire fighting dealing with hotel issues. Some members looked less knowledgeable and handled questions poorly.
The layout isn’t great, with poor staircases, tatty carpets and doors. It’s facilities must have at one time perhaps been okay. In the hotels favour previously could have been it has a good looking pool area, but next to the pool is what would have once been perhaps a changing area, though this is now a store room for disused mattresses and broken chairs and bedding. No toilet facilities are available near to the pool, let alone a shower for using prior to using the pool or on leaving the area. You are required to either change wet into your clothes or walk through the maze of corridors to the stairs or one sole lift and await it coming down to go upstairs to your room. This should be a manned area with a separate desk, and perhaps multi use this area.
There is no signage around the hotel to where anything is and no explanation given from staff as to what is available and what facilities there are.
The one lift is very small in size, though what makes it less appealing is it’s tatty finish, no effort made to smarten up what could be done with a varnish and some tlc. Outside the car park and rear garden patio area is absent from any pretty plants or flowers even though it is peak season.

Having a private area to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine
Service was a little slow by one member of staff at breakfast- but this was rectified

Beautiful pool, nice and quiet. 10 min walk to maim beach restaurants and shops. Front of house team really friendly and go out of their way to help you. Room with an epic sea view. Breakfast at the door, cereal muffin fruit yogurt etc as opted not to have cooked, reception explained welcome to have it but set times.
Cannot think of anything really.

My partner and I loved the old fashion style of the place and the atmosphere.
The breakfast was pretty good.
The location is perfect.
The room was a bit smaller than we thought.
The room was quite hot during the day and there was no fan.

Paid for room with breakfast in advance however, upon arrival was advised that breakfast would be box bought to our room consisting of a small box of cereal etc. Then told that they could supply a full breakfast in the dining room at an extra cost of 9.99 pp. I would like a refund for the so called breakfast in a box.
The fact that clean sheets and towels were thrown on the carpet outside the room ready to be put in the beds.
