The place was clean and spacious. We had 3 confy beds to choose from, TVs in every room, big kitchen, and a nice terrace outside.

Tiger Mosquitoes - I know it's a common problem all over Europe right now. We had mosquito nets and repellants inside so we were safe there. But on the outside terrace it was almost impossible to stay because of them. The authorities should be pressured to do something about them.

We stayed in Smeralda House for a family beach holiday. - The terrace is great - it has a big table, a cozy hammock and a sun lounger. It's safe for small kids which was important for us - The beds very very comfortable and the apartment big enough for 3 adults and a child. With more people it would probably get a bit crowded though. - The hosts were very friendly and it was easy communicating with Filippo in English - The washing machine was very handy (i.e. travelling with kids ;) - Some people reported a water damage in their reviews but when we visited in Sep 2021, everything was fine. - There is only street parking but during the ~10 days we stayed we never had difficulties finding a spot within 50m of the house

- The WiFi signal is poor to the degree that it cannot be used in certain rooms and is very slow in others - There are lots of mosquitoes. The rooms are fine because the windows have mosquito guards but the terrace door has to be kept closed and you need a repellent on the terrace - One of the bedrooms is facing the street and there is quite some traffic noise (particularly from scooters) during the night - The equipment is quite basic. For example, there was only a handful of cutlery requiring us to wash it after virtually every meal. There is an old broom but it would have been great to have a mop to wipe the floor (-> kids!) from time to time. - The apartment is in an area where it's quite difficult to get to the beach or centre of Viareggio by foot. It's okay to cycle but Italian drivers are not particularly considerate and often drive above the speed limit. With small children, your main option is thus going to be a car. In September, it was fine to find parking spots at the beach and city centre during the week (weekends was a bit more difficult) but I could imagine that it's much harder during peak season.

The owners intervened immediately after our call and tried to improve the situation.

-The worst thing of all was finding mold all around the house, in particular in the living room. -There were a lot of ants entering the apartment, not so great when you have a 13 months old toddler. -The washing machine was placed outdoors and it was old and dirty. -The apartment is located in the suburbs of Viareggio and the street has no sidewalk....really complicated with a stroller. -Since we didn't want to search another accomodation, we asked for a price reduction. The owners offered to refund us one night in exchange of a good review which disappointed me a lot.

The house itself is absolutely great: beautifully renovated, tastefully decorated, and equipped with all facilities including new air conditioning in both bedrooms, mosquito nets (absolutely necessary in the seaside area), large and comfortable beds, washing machine, dishwasher, and a lovely and spacious veranda overlooking its small but pretty garden. We felt truly at home.

The neighborhood is not very pedestrian friendly (e.g. no sidewalks) especially with small children, so we had to use the car most of the time.
