Tea was exceptional with response time she’s the absolute best, but it gets better you arrive and then you meet Joël and Tatiana which are the best if the best host!! Tea does her best to tell you how it’s going to be and it’s all true everything she tells you but it goes above and beyond that when you arrive. We can’t wait to come back, the facility is everything a soul needs to escape! It’s not you resort style stay so if you looking for that keep scrolling this is for the hippies and explorers at heart not saying you don’t get resort style accommodations you just don’t get the other folks around you!! I can’t thank the entire team enough seriously, I wired Tea months in advanced and was kinda scared doing so not going to lie….. but it was the best decision I’ve made to date for a stay out of the country and I WILL BE WIRING HER AGAIN!!!! Book this place if you want peace and tranquility with no one around except Tatiana and Joel and even then you can ask for them not to come over I guess, but that’s be a huge mistake!!

location, privacy, views and personnel!

The location is dreamy, the views spectacular. Everything was comfortable, the kitchen was very well equipped. The open air kitchen/dining area is so wonderfully perfect, full of small artist details throughout. One of our days here it poured down rain for most of the day, but we just sat and watched the water and enjoyed a lazy day. Incredible views everywhere you look. We had a paddle board and a 2-person kayak at our disposal, and when we needed to go back to the mainland, Joel took us back and waited for us. We loved our stay and would absolutely come back again if we ever get to return to beautiful Bora Bora!
You just need to remember that you are signing up to be in an open bungalow on a remote island in the middle of the South Pacific, so there are bugs, there are lizards, and there are stray dogs who will steal your food off the counter if you leave it unattended. You will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience!

As the location makes you feel as an explorer, you como into the island (motu) by boat, and is extraordinary the environment while the boat approaches to the island.
What's more, we were grateful doing shopping for ourselves in a smart way. So, we had to have in account the supplies for 4 days regarding our preferences and the limitations of the island.
In addition, Joel and Tatiana were very nice hosts, as they were always attending our demands.
Tip: we strongly recommend you to ask to Joel for his performance harvesting coconuts from the palm tree.
But the most was the 5G wifi which works very well indoor and outdoor!!!
If you are open-minded, you need to make your own breakfast as there is no local waiter to do it for you. But, it is no drawback for enjoying the peacefulness of the island.

Joel and Tatiana make you feel right at home and the location is something out of a movie. Incredible to have this island paradise all to yourself!
Ahead of time you should know there are mosquitoes and there is no a/c. Be sure to pack mosquito repellant!

Our stay was absolutely magical! We weren't able to rent a boat due to large swells so were quite literally stranded. We did not have access to the entire motu as we thought, but despite that, our days were full of adventure. Upon arrival, Joel who picked us up on the boat, taught us how to open different coconuts which we did every morning and used as fresh coffee creamer. We BBQ'd each night with our sweet motu adopted pup who followed us everywhere. We stargazed at night on the pier. The rooms exceeded my expectations as they were beautiful, big, spacious and had hot showers. We woke up every morning to the gorgeous view of the ocean and mountain. I stayed in other hotels on the mainland during my time in Bora Bora, and Fare Ahuna was by far our favorite and most memorable. We would definitely visit Bora Bora again just to experience Ahuna again.
More notice about the boat being broken/unusable. Having more kayaks or a double kayak, more study stand up paddle boards to get around the water would have been great. More clairty about what parts of the motu are for guests to explore and what is private and inaccessible.

This was my favorite location by far. You have to know going in that this is not a hotel or resort but a unique experience you will not have anywhere else.
Tea is the owner and very easy to communicate with. She answered all of our questions before we submitted payment via wire from our bank. We used email and WhatsApp to communicate throughout the process and while on the island. Here is a bit of an overview of our stay.
You will take the ferry from the airport to the town of Vaitape where you will meet Joel who will walk you over to the local market (Chin Lee) to buy groceries for your stay.
Joel will take you in his boat to the island which is about a 15-minute ride. Joel and his wife, Tatiana, live on the island as well and there are about five additional homes on the island, but since you have the whole south end we never felt as there were people around at all. Joel and Tatiana are very friendly and only speak French so I used WhatsApp with Google Translator to communicate with them which worked great.
There are three main buildings - two bedrooms which each have a full bathroom (warm enough to shower but not hot water) nice size bed with mosquito netting, a deck, and can be locked if needed, and one open-air kitchen/living room which is amazing.
The kitchen is actually well-stocked. There is a four-burner small gas stove which worked for all our needs (there is also an oven but we did not use it), a full-size refrigerator but no freezer.
There is power and plugs throughout all three buildings and so you can charge your equipment, there are lights at night.
Overall, I would say this was the most relaxing, unique, beautiful, and special place we stayed in our two-week, six island vacation in French Polynesia. As long as you can cook, clean, and take care of yourself, and can live with bugs, be frugal on your power usage and live without A/C I cannot recommend this place higher. See my full review on Trip Advisor.
Power is limited, bugs, and that's about it. Great place honestly.
One issue we ran into is the power is a bit inconsistent. What we figured out is that there is a battery system that is charged during the day using solar and wind, and at night there is a generator that Joel starts up to keep you going until about 10 or so, then the batteries are used to keep lights/fans on at night. However, if there is not enough sun or if you use to much power it will run out and the system will go down for extended times during the night which can make it a bit warm without the fan running so our recommendation is to make sure to turn off everything when not in use, charge your phone, camera, etc. during the window when the generator is running, and do not use items like blow dryers, etc.
There are mosquitoes and we highly recommend you spray yourself throughout the day to minimize bites. In the open area, it is actually not bad bug wise especially when there is wind and you also can lite several of the citronella coils. I did get bit several times on my ankles while in the kitchen area so be vigilant and spray up.

Friendly welcome. Friendly employees. Shore area in front of the bungalow and lounge clean. The view towards Vaitape and the sunset. Small pavilion we used for breakfast. Initially good communication with the landlady. The fire pit on the beach with enough wood on the property.
Clean only on the shore not in the underlying part of the property. Many mosquitoes. The buildings require a renovation, it seems mostly worn, especially the kitchen area. Not the expected privacy. It worked in part up to 15 fishermen directly in front of Villa Ahuna at a fish cage. A fisherman came with his harpoon directly to the boat dock. Canoeists come right up to the property and pull their canoe right next to the partially removed fence to shore. Boats with up to 6 people suddenly pass directly in a few meters as the fairway for the islanders passes by. The condition of the provided boat. The boat seat is a piece of lumber that does not fit properly and shifts when the boat is in use (accident risk). It is not allpowed to use the boat after sunset. The communication with the landlady ended when we criticized. It is quite loud, as all the sounds from the bay sound over the island Ahuna. Noise during the day from the boats and especially from the waterscooters, dogs barking at night and the crows of roosters. On weekends you hear loud music that sounds from Vaitape across.

The view from the little pier was awesome.
The bed was comfortable with mosquito netting.
The living area was really unique and comfortable.
It was quite an adventure.
The hosts (Tea) is very sweet, but she was not there, and the "caretakers" did not speak English. Communications were very difficult.
The Wifi didn't work for the first three days. It finally got fixed, but still wouldn't work with my Samsung devices. It did work with my wife's Apple devices (but extremely slow).
The place is getting a little run down, and needs a little fixing up.
Could not get the BBQ lit. Plenty of wood laying around, but it was all very wet.
No hot water in the kitchen, bathroom sinks or tub. The shower did have hot water though.
We couldn't use the little boat past 11:00 or so. The wind would come up and the lagoon got extremely choppy. It was difficult to steer (wanted to pull hard right).
Overall we had a good time, but I think there were more negative things than positive about Villa Ahuna. I don't think I would recommend it.
