Only booked a compact double room but it was an excellent size with plenty of room and a view over the town . Only £5 parking aswell
Can't fault anything. Stunning hotel
3.4
Proximity to the lovely town.
Having to pay £5 for overnight parking is an absolute rip off. I understand it if not a resident, but NOT if paying to stay. For that reason I would not choose to go again even though we’ve stayed there four or five times and NEVER had to pay a grabbing extra fee to park the car. Scandously money grabbing.
3.4
The Palace Hotel is a beautiful historic building with decor and furnishings in communal areas top class. Dining arrangements were seamless and food excellent. Staff were extremely welcoming and professional.
Nothing to dislike.
3.4
Location
We had no hot water to wash or take a shower
3.4
The evening meal was awful. Stale bread, congealed chicken pie, the spa (pool) wasn’t open and wasn’t advertised. They don’t take ANY cash and don’t advertise that either. Not happy!
The service, the food, the pool could have been open - we paid to use the facilities and none were open!!
3.4
The only thing I liked was the location, and the fact that we had a bed to sleep in.
The double room could barely fit the double bed. We could just about squeeze between the bed and the wall to get to the bathroom.
There were no lifts to the floor where our room was located, and I have mobility issues. It was up 2 flights of stairs and the member of staff who showed us to our room didn’t even bother to help me. He just walked off. Some guests helped me with my suitcases.
We had to pay for parking on arrival, and yet parking wasn’t guaranteed. It took us 20 minutes on our second night to find somewhere to park.
They charged for internet in the room
Advertised as a Hotel & Spa, but the pool and spa area were out of action. We chose these hotel based on this, and yet we weren’t informed that it was closed for refurbishment.
Rooms weren’t cleaned - Apparently, we needed to book at reception to have our room cleaned and towels replaced. No one said this on arrival. To further compound this, there were no phones in the room to contact reception to ask for anything or any help.

Beautiful building
Staff very good
3.4
Grand hotel in fantastic location. Breakfast was good for non vegans. Rooms clean and comfortable.
Car park was full. Spa was closed. No/limited vegan options. Had to pay for wifi
3.4
Liked the size of room, friendly staff, quiet room and comfy bed. Lots of amenities in room.
Room was too hot initially, but a fan was provided to cope with that and then adequate temperature.
3.4
Great location and view from our room. The lobby was impressive and a good gathering area for family.
The staff seemed very stretched, particularly breakfast time. The facilities such as the bathroom and swimming pool were adequate but quite out dated.
3.4
Additional cost to park in the hotel carpark and additional cost to get WiFi in my room
3.4
Good selection except no choice of milk although I assume soya/oat milk would be available on request.
No free WiFi in the room.
3.4
location was ideal on the doorstep for Buxton attractions.
Room was bigger than expected, we had booked a comfort room.
we were room only and thought we had good value
The hotel is an iconic building overlooking Buxton and is now a bit jaded although still having the grandeur of a bygone age. Rooms are clean but tired. I dont know whether we can say we didnt like it we just accepted it.
3.4
I loved the food, setting and staff. The ambiance is absolutely amazing.
The pillows. They were very hard (like resting my head on a gate post). I lost sleep because of this. When I spoke to Dave the night manager about it in the morning, he gave a lame excuse and led me to believe he didn’t give a s__t.
3.4
Location and friendly staff
Appeared to be short staffed and short of food and beverage. Many items at breakfast ran out mid way through the allotted time. Similar with bar at night
3 night stay had no room cleaning or towel change, without 24hr notice… very strange, short staffed?
3.4
No complaints whatsoever. plus the weather was fantastic
Nothing
3.4
Room and hotel bar
No proper coffee with breakfast! Really disapointing!
3.4
Beautiful building and location
People in our room, fire hose out of order, tinned fruit at breakfast, no service of providing tea/coffee and toast brought to the table. We have stayed twice previously and none of the above occured. Such a shame , so sad about basic service needs not met
3.4
Great location and appearance. It looks grand. The staff were nice, including cleaning staff, receptionists, and bar staff.
The room was too hot and a smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night. I asked about it and the receptionist said it was because someone sprayed some deodorant. Seems like it could be a regular occurrence if they are that sensitive. My partner was looking forward to using the gym, but the gym and the pool were closed with no notice. The breakfast wasn't great for vegans. There was no vegan milk or meat alternatives. There was sunflower spread though.
3.4
Loved the look of the hotel. And the hotel staff
The staff at the Spa were a little rude.
3.4
Hotel was clean. Bed was comfortable. Room was basic but spacious with a full dining table. Power shower but bathroom very compact. Very close to shops.
Pool facilities desperately need updating. Steam room & sauna are both tiny and very dilapidated with stained tiles and chipped steps. The walk from the pool reception to the changing room is a maze. You have to walk up a flight of stairs through the beauty / massage rooms, where people are waiting for treatments, down another set of stairs just to get to the pool changing rooms. An extra charge of six pounds per person is charged to use the pool facilities if it is not included in your package. This wasn't highlighted upon booking. The hotel itself has recently had extensive renovations and is very nice but the pool area needs to be totally revamped, especially as they charge a fee. This is the first time staying in a hotel that I have ever had to pay to use the hotel pool. No information about hotel facilities, check out times etc. were given upon check in. We were just handed the key and told where to go. As a result we were charged 15euro for not checking out at 10am so be warned it is not 12pm like a lot of hotels. The lift was broken as well.
3.4
Atmosphere and venue and rooms and location
Not enough milk
3.4
Room rather cold and every extra chargeable. Yes, the description on Booking.com said so, but there was a tightwad feel to things. And if I have to pay for the spa, why can't I charge it to to my room bill? I'm not carrying cash/cards around in the hotel. And wifi very rocky, even when I tried to pay for it.

Victorian style
Small rooms & haven’t got double glazed windows.

3.4
Excellent breakfast and good value carvery supper
Not enough plugs in the bedroom. Very poor lighting in the bathroom
3.4
Great room. We were upgraded to a large room. Lovely room on the 2nd floor.
The pillows were a bit too firm for my liking.
3.4
Clean and staff always welcoming
We could not remove the subtitles off the tv and the drink facilities were on the drawer next to the bed
3.4
Lovely hotel - would definitely stay there again if going to Buxton
Nothing
3.4
Comfortable room with excellent shower and good bed. Window, but no view unfortunately. Nice selection of coffee/tea and biscuits. it was very quiet too. We didn't use the pool etc but had a look and we definitely use them next time. Love the building and surprised how well it was kept.
A bit sad to be charging £7 for the WIFI in this day and age.
3.4
The location was perfect, the breakfast very average. The main area was great the rest needed some TLC
The bedroom was looking very tried needed updating
3.4
The staff were pleasant.
I have written a separate email to both booking.com and The Palace hotel, detailing how extremely disappointed and unsatisfied I am.
It was evident those of us whom had families were shoved into what would have been “servant quarters” and the food was dreadful, we skipped breakfast after experiencing an awful evening meal.
3.4
The breakfast was good. Outdoor area was ok
The room. Outdated. Mouldy in the bath room. Very uncomfortable bed. Not up to standard for £95 a night

The hotel staff is in a good location, the staff were friendly.
The hotel was a little dated with some of the original features missing, so lacked character.
