This is a fabulous location. Simple beach huts with the best wall paper. A view out to the lagoon through the palm trees. If you are after inexpensive accommodation this is the option for you.
The solar system was not too efficient. Would have liked better hot water in the shower.

I loved this place. Right on the beach and everything you need. Even the cat makes you feel welcome! A walk along the beach will show you the resorts next door but at Matriki you get the same view for a fraction of the price. The free bikes made shopping really easy...a five minute pedal
The toilet is a 10 metre walk outside but it didn't bother me.

Es war so, wie wir es vor 18 Jahren schon erlebt haben.
Alles war ok.

Quiet location on the beach, simple living, not for those who love their mod cons.
Would love access to an outrigger canoe or kayak.

Lovely beach right there! Nice deck with loads of shade. The huts are very basic/rustic but have what you need, including an essential fan! Very clean toilet block. Matthias and Riki are friendly and helpful. Wonderful day on the water with Matthias, who is knowledgeable, passionate and cares deeply for the environment. Snorkelled outside the reef, as well as inside. Saw and swam with turtles, eagle rays, giant trevally, giant clams, tropical fish, along with the usual lagoon tour seeing coral etc. We also stopped at a couple of different islands to see bird life which was very interesting. Delicious lunch provided.
Lack of water in the shower, but I understand about water conservation.
Push bikes were free to use, which we successfully did. But, they really do need new push bikes.

Location on the lagoon is superb! Loved the Garden Unit. I’m impressed by your commitment to recycling and environmentally sound business practices.
The cats were cool company.
I appreciate the great attitude and friendly attention paid by Cammy and Jamal, acting managers.
Having to leave.

The beach and snorkelling were fantastic. Rikki & Mathius were fantastic hosts and we were made to feel very welcome. If your looking for a Robinson Crusoe type experience, then this is the place.

Amazing location on a fantastic part of the lagoon teaming with marine life.
Great facilities that blended in with the environment.
Riki and Mathias were brilliant hosts. Nothing was a bother and they were really helpful in sharing local knowledge.
Boat trips with Mathias were incredible going to all the best snorkelling spots, visiting some of the motu and lunch was delectable.

The most stunning beachfront location, with free bikes at your disposal to bike into town which is nearby too, or to take a ride around the island. Lovely huts which create this castaway vibe. They are not recent, but well maintained and have everything you need. The garden unit feels like a suite anyway :). Matthias will take you out on the lagoon for a snorkelling trip and more (we learned about the original birds and vegetation on the motus). We were just 6 on the boat which made it all the more fun :)
Nothing really

Good location for swimming and snorkeling, and 5-10 minutes by bike (free though a little rusty) to shops. The shared toilets were clean. Quiet at night (at least until the roosters woke up).
The hut is quite basic, but could have been cozy if it (and the shower outside) was more properly cleaned. I was also sharing the space with some cockroaches and a giant spider. The property is located a little away from the main road and is very dark at night, so bring a flashlight.

we really enjoyed the vibe of the place, the beautiful beach just in front of the hut and snorkeling. its great that there are bikes available as well as SUP that you can use to see the lagoon. The trip offered by Matthias was also one of the highlights of our stay! perfect place if you are looking for a simple, yet very nicely surrounded hut. We really enjoyed our stay and felt 100% relaxed.
you might come across some bug, but its pretty normal in such climate

Wow! That location. That view. Does not get much better. Loved the free bikes allowed us freedom to ride around the island. As well as free snorkel gear to loan and a map left us pretty well set up.
It was basic as other reviews said, but that was perfect for our four days. You could spend a small fortune to stay fancier but the key is being on the amazing lagoon. With rain it started to feel a bit damp but other than that had all you need.

The shower in the beach hut.

The location is fabulous! The upper tree house had everything we needed for a great stay. We did the lagoon cruise with Matthias and had a very enjoyable day.
Matthias, the fan in our room needs replacing. We tried to use it the first night, but it was too noisy. Meant to tell you, but we didn’t need a fan after that, and simply forgot. Everything else was good.

Lovely beach, excellent for sunset photos, far enough off the road so as not to hear traffic and a lovely friendly cat made my stay even more enjoyable.
Bed was a bit hard but it didn’t keep me awake

fabulous location, well maintained, well equipped
no seperate toilet for each beach hut - but it wasn’t a big deal
more comfortable loungers would have been nice

Amazing location, the best sunset of the Island and totally good vibes!!

Mattias and Riki made us feel at home.....nothing was too much bother.....we really appreciated the use of the bicycles for free......although 1 speed and not new we managed to get all over the island with them.....great advice from the hosts on what to see and do......we also appreciated their awareness of the fragile island environment and the need to live sustainably on Aitutaki.
We thought everything was appropriate for a rustic beach house experience.....for example the 2 shared toilets were incredibly clean and the drinking rainwater was great.....but the showers understandably did not have a lot of pressure.

As our first trip after the pandemic, popping over from NZ and arriving at Matriki Huts was the most amazing feeling. The location was more than we had hoped. You step out of your hut and you are right on the beach in front of a crystal clear lagoon. We stayed in the upstairs of the treehouse and loved the rustic vibes. It's simple but it's all it needs to be as you spend so much time outdoors. The feeling of the place is the best part, it has a real community feel. We spent alot of time chatting with other guests, we even had a happy hour one evening after our snorkel trip. There is only a handful of huts so there was only 6 - 8 of us staying there which was lovely, much nicer than the busy resorts nearby! Would highly recommend the Matriki Snorkel boat trip, it was the most amazing day out on the lagoon!
Nothing, we absolutely loved our stay and would come again!

Super, friendly, attentive and helpful operators.
Clean facilities.
Great value and situated on the beach.
Beach was a bit hard to swim at on account of the sea cucumbers but other places to swim on the island so no biggie

This place is so cute, perfect location only 5 metres from the beach, and Matthias and Riki are friendly and efficient hosts.

Great snorkelling directly off the beach in front of the huts!
Matthias and Riki were super friendly and helpful…..organising activities, and even setting up a bon fire one night.
And I highly recommend Matthias’ lagoon tour… it was small, personalised, and a great value!
I can’t wait to return!!
It would have been nice to have toilets in the huts, but I’d trade the beach-front location for a private toilet any day!

The snorkeling area just in front of the hut. The tour organised by Matt (we saw some turtles and many fish).

We stayed in the Reef Hut which was great. Comfy and a good sea breeze! Riki and Matthias are great and we took the boat trip from the huts which was an amazing morning out!

Gilligan's Island like experience right on the beach! Amazing sunsets. Super-nice hosts. Great island and beaches. Access to grocery stores. Best snorkeling on the island right outside your room!
Have to pay for all the amenities (bikes, boards, etc) -- set up just like Ryan Air or Easy Jet; some bugs, though the mosquito nets help; took awhile for the towels to dry and no maid service.
