Stunning property in a truly beautiful location. The room was very opulent and comfortable with superb views overlooking the pool and valley. Food was excellent, plentiful and beautifully served. The drives in the reserve were interesting and varied and the landscape is gorgeous
The last 45 kms is on a gravel road which isn’t much fun. you need to take it slow. There is a cellphone signal for most of it though.

It was simply unforgettable. Thank you Vanessa and your staff, you are special and professional. Tutwa is an amazing location. Thanks Norman for a great game drive as well as the lessons in photography.

I recently stayed at Tutwa Lodge and had an absolutely amazing experience. The location is stunning, with the lodge situated between two dry river beds that have carved a valley and a gorge between the mountains. Although it's about 7km from the Orange River, the lodge's endless pool falls into a game water hole, which brings lots of wildlife right to your doorstep. Sitting on a lounger next to the pool and watching animals drink water right in front of you is truly unforgettable.
The food at the lodge is world-class, with breakfast being stunning and way too much, but luckily lunch is normally light. Dinner is again an amazing experience, and the wine cellar offers an excellent selection. The game drive is really worth it, and Norman was very knowledgeable. One of the highlights of my stay was sitting on a lounger and enjoying the incredible view of nature.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Lodge to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience. Thank you to the owners/managers for their hospitality and for making us feel welcome
The lightning in the rooms was a bit low, but this was a minor problem.
There are a couple of midges (small fruit flies) around, but nothing too serious, and whenever a breeze blew, they disappeared

Lovely location.
The generator stopped at midnight. No aircon at 45°C was awful.

This lodge was the highlight of my trip and I was very sad to leave. Staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. I will miss dining on the verandah and seeing the animals drinking at the watering hole and the sun setting behind the koppie. Thanks to Mary-Jane (the ranger) for the game drive and her extensive knowledge and for sharing pictures that she took on our drive.
There was nothing that I didn't like, although I did feel bad for not being able to finish the enormous and deliscious breakfast that was brought to me.

Our time at the Tutwa Desert Lodge was beyond compare! The area is tranquil and it is a fantastic getaway from the world. We were greeted by the amazing staff who had towels and refreshments to help us recover from our travel. Lucky, the manager is extremely thoughtful and looked after us so well. The chef did not object and prepared us the tastiest food despite the fact that we are vegetarians who do not consume onion or garlic. Beautiful presentation and chef made it his duty to check on us after our meal. Norman, our safari guide was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable. When we returned to the lodge after the safari, the staff greeted us with towels and drinks. To save us from having to wonder in the dark, the lights in our room were turned on before we arrived. The entire staff at the lodge is incredibly kind and made our stay so peaceful. We look forward to returning soon and heartily encourage this location because you guys are losing out!

Lodge location, staff, game drives and environment
The extremely high charge for the game drives. It would have been expected that it should be inclusive in the rates.

Lucky was a charming and amiable host. Lovemore an excellent and thoroughly well trained sommelier/barman/waiter.
The meals were good and the presentation excellent. The view from the terrace and dining area over the pools and the water hole and mountains was lovely and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the area.
The Shower! The lack of a door meant that the bathroom floor was inundated. The floor of the shower itself was so slippery that we were forced to put a hand towel down to avoid falling. It is a danger to life and limb. There is no window to open in the lavatory and no air freshener provided. The huge twin hand-basins leave no space at counter level to place toiletries. Our air conditioner remote did not work so we had to sleep with the doors open inviting mozzies to join us. A new door mat at the front door is needed so as not to track sand in all over the floor. Although Nelson was an amiable guide and well-informed we thought that the game drive was seriously over-priced, especially given the limited game-viewing available. The printer in the adjacent office whirred and buzzed and clicked an kept us awake at night.

Amazing location, extremely helpful and professional staff, very luxurious lodge. Great game and nature drives, with extremely knowledgeable guide Norman. I would go back again!
Wonderful breakfasts, served on the terrace with the most spectacular views.
I would have loved a cappuccino or Americano coffee, however only filter coffee is a available.
Tricky dirt road for about 50km to get to the Lodge, but we’ll worth the drive.

What a wonderful lodge. Everything was excellent, from the lovely staff to the delicious meals and great game drives. The swimming pool with watering hole right in front of it, where you can see Springbok as you relax, is unreal. Highly recommend.

The most beautiful location. it was so quiet and peaceful.
it was a lovely place to walk. Many travellers want to see the big 5 at a game lodge. Our family love to walk and study birds trees and insects. This is a fantastic place to walk and relax. one of the best vacation places I have ever been to.
I cannot say anything negative about this place.

This place is really a hidden gem on a remote location. Perfect place to wind down and relax. the breakfast was superb: lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt, meat and cheese and hot breakfast by choice.
Food was also very good. Great service.
rooms were clean and beds were very comfortable.

Beautiful, rugged setting far from everything. The stars at night was a magic spectacle. The night game drive was great - the excellent guide went to a lot of trouble until we eventually saw this massive leopard. Walking along the river bed is a great way of experiencing the local beauty
The food wasn't quite up to expectation. Friendly service and beautiful dining area, but the food itself not quite where it should have been.

The hospitality is absolutely incredible - Vanessa and Norman really go over and beyond the call of duty to accommodate each and every guest. The food is incredible. Loved everything about this place.
