Beautiful Stone Home in Champlain Valley, Essex NY

The farmhouse was a perfect stay with family and pets while my boys were day campers in the area. The kitchen was modern and suited our cooking needs. The downstairs shower was nice for scrubbing them clean after days of play. I was able to do laundry in the basement. The location was perfect for day trips to Lake Placid, The Great escape, Rulphs for blueberry picking, and Plattsburgh for family fun. Audrey is a perfect host who accommodated us wonderfully. She even brought us fresh corn on the cob one night.

Porcupine farm is a beautiful retreat on a very quiet rural lane just a few minutes from Lake Champlain. The vistas of the nearby mountains across the broad hayfields are sublime. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to use. The stone house dates from 1811 and just oozes charm. Audrey is a great communicator and made our stay a relaxing and memorable one.

The house was lovely and we felt like we had stepped back in time. Audrey was extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs. It was an ideal location for us to visit with family that lived nearby. We enjoyed our morning walks on the quiet road, watching the horses and the goats and feeding the guinea hens. We would definitely stay here again.

We had such an amazing stay at Porcupine Farm! The house is beautiful, even better than the photos. The host was incredibly responsive and made us feel welcome before we even arrived with lots of little tips and details. Kitchen was fantastic to cook in with good quality everything and a lovely space, bedrooms were cozy and sunny with super comfortable beds, and you could feel the history of the old house around you while still having all the modern comforts! Lots of nice touches. Absolutely lovely setting in pretty farmland near hiking trails, and the animals were so much fun! My family of animal lovers adored the friendly goats and the hilarious guinea fowl. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

I traveled with four friends so we were looking for four bedrooms and two bathrooms which this house has. In addition, the house is charming and comfortable for a group. Our first two days there were very hot, but the air conditioner in the living room and the fans made the house comfortable. We choose to cook meals in: the kitchen is spacious and completely equipped. The town of Essex is close-by and the ferry is a convenient, inexpensive and fun way to reach Vermont.
For people looking for local foods, the Hub on the Hill and Essex Farm are close. I was looking for a charging station for an EV and found that Essex Farm has several which were regularly available at no charge. Thank you, Essex Farm. One day I was sitting in my vehicle while it was charging with another EV owner. A farmer said it was the first time two vehicles were charging at the same time.
Audrey Sparre earns her Premium Host designation. She is accessible and helpful. During our stay rain and lightning storms moved into the area putting the dishwasher out of service. Audrey identified the issue and got it working. We have all agreed that it was delightful holiday.

Por-Q-Pine Farm was an amazing property and gets our highest recommendation. It was perfect for our family of six adults and three children including our furry family. So much room to move about, inside and outside. It was a mix of rustic decor with modern conveniences. Another plus was it was only 5 minutes to town and the ferry to Vermont. Once you got the "lay of the land", you found multiple places to visit nearby for vegetables, fruits, organic treats and groceries as well as nearby restaurants and cafes. Audrey was an amazing hostess, available 24 hours via text if needed and offered many suggestions for enjoying the farm and exploring around nearby towns. Would return in a heartbeat. Thank you Audrey for making our family vacation a memorable one!!!

Hard to say what I loved most about Porcupine Farm - the beautiful stone farmhouse and endlessly interesting decor, the views and setting, the sweet and entertaining animals, or chatting with the host as she took care of the goats. I loved it all! Our stay was relaxing and restorative, and I can't wait to return.

The experience for my family and I was wonderful! We do not have animals at our home so it was some getting used to with the dog hair. Otherwise, very clean and would definitely stay again! The house is beautiful!

The property is beautiful. The house was well-stocked with everything we needed. The location is very quiet and relaxing. About an hour from Lake Placid and Burlington, so we were able to easily do day trips. Audrey is a very responsive host and made us feel welcome.

Gorgeous location, decoration, accomodation, communication!
Audie's home was perfect for our family. It is beautiful, well-appointed, nestled on a quiet street in a rural area, but close to everywhere we wanted to be. We woke to bird song and the babbling brook, enjoyed great hikes and dining nearby, and were continuously awed by the gorgeous views out of every window!

Great location for long overdue family vacation!
We had a weeklong stay at the porcupine farm in Essex. We had a great week. Some of us hiked, some visited Vermont, and we enjoyed our time together after being separated by Covid for over a year. I would recommend this location for any visit to Essex or Willsboro. Thank you Audrey for your hospitality while we were there!

Beautiful Relaxing Country Home
If you like peace at the end of the day this is your rental. Close to alot of hiking and places to visit. Audrey was very helpful and pet friendly. The home was excellent in size and facilities for our family. We picked a very hot week which without a/c was alittle tough. We really enjoyed Lake Placid and the ferry to Vermont.

Beautiful Getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Porcupine Farm. It's about as rural and beautiful an area as I've ever seen. The house was stunning, inside and out. Gorgeous views of fields, with mountains beyond. Very comfortable living space, and a well-stocked kitchen. Note: most of the businesses in Essex closed on the Monday of Columbus Day weekend. We were able to shop for groceries in Burlington when we went exploring across the lake. A small local store about 7 miles away was sufficient for staples in a pinch. The ferry was great. All in all a great adventure checking out an area that was new to us. Would highly recommend!

Well-appointed 200yr old stone home with breathtaking mountain views.
My husband and I spent a beautiful fall weekend at this stunning home in the Adirondacks! The house itself is beautifully furnished with 2 beautiful bathrooms, one with a claw footed bath tub! We especially enjoyed the fire place in the living room and the gas stove in the kitchen, which made this beautiful home feel even more comfortable and cozy. Audrey was incredibly hospitable and provided lost of excellent information about the house and local area. We enjoyed the local treats that she left for us and the selection of puzzles that we used during our stay. We were also able to bring our dog with us, which made our weekend that much more enjoyable. Stunning views and sunrise! We can’t wait to go for our next visit!

Most Enjoyable Time
Once again we totally enjoyed our stay at Porcupine Farm. There is everything you would need or want to have a most comfortable, relaxing time. We took the ferry to Vt. and spent a great day im Burlington. The beautiful foliage was spectacular this time of year. We enjoyed meeting Audrey and learning the history of her home. This is a very special place and we look forward to returning!

beautiful home
This home was stunning and the area was perfect for our needs. The owner lives on premises which we were not aware of prior to booking, she was very pleasant and respected our privacy. The only issue we had were black flies in windows, there must be some prior issue and certainly did not ruin our appreciation for the home nor did we feel the need to spray while we were there, but this should be addressed. We did enjoy our stay overall!

Great quiet place to relax
This home is great, especially if you like older homes. Many of the homes components appear to be original. When they are not they have been repaired or updated with first class materials. The home was very clean and bright. The host went out of her way to be helpful. We sat out on the porch to eat breakfast in the morning to enjoy the quiet and the view.
If you like to hike the are a number of short hikes within minutes of the house and longer ones 15 to 30 minutes away.
I would definitely recommend this property.

This property is remote which is what we were looking for. The house is a spectacular old farm house that is decorated to feel warm and welcoming. If we are ever in the need to come back to this region, I hope this property is still available. Had a wonderful time...thanks!

Thank you
We enjoyed our stay in Audrey’s lovely home. The setting in rural New York on the edge of the Adirondacks was very peaceful. The beds were comfortable, and the living rooms able to comfortably host our group of 7. We were able to communicate with Audrey who was away when we arrived and we had questions about the checking, etc. we do recommend a new key box. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Far from the maddening crowd
The farm house is precisely as described - - only more charming. Very well equipped with everything you need and yet so low key that you can almost feel you are there 200 years ago. Just perfect. Exactly what my husband and I and our dog were looking for in a short get away. Thank you Audrey for sharing your wonderful home with us.

Beautiful Cozy Home
Our family of seven enjoyed the best weekend at this beautiful stone home. We hiked the trails in the snow and returned to sit around an inviting fire. The home is well supplied and sparkling clean. There is nothing you want for. We went to Livingoods Brewery in Peru and would highly recommend it. We had a great dinner at the Essex Inn where the food and ambience was exceptional. None of us wanted the weekend to end... Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy this warm, cozy home. Thank you Audrey!

Charming cozy home with breathtaking view!
We stayed at Porcupine Farm for a weekend so we could attend my cousin’s wedding in Essex. The house was warm and cozy with fresh cut flowers throughout the house. We got the pleasure of enjoying our morning coffee while looking at the view of the mountains decorated with fall foliage. Beds were comfortable and the rest of the house was perfect for a family gathering.
