We spent 2 weeks at Caroline and Mike's home in Moretown, enjoying the glorious Mad River Valley in August. We have stayed at other properties in the area so our feedback is with that experience in mind.
The Pros:
-Caroline and Mike were great hosts, easy to communicate with and responsive. They allowed us to change our dates when we needed to, and responded quickly and effectively when an issue came up at the house.
-The property is so beautiful. We especially loved the field behind the barn, the crystal clear creek, and the cows next door.
-The house was spacious and allowed us to spread out
-The espresso machine made mornings a delight :)
The Cons:
-If you are at all sensitive to mold, dust, or other allergens, this is not the rental for you.
-Linens are not provided; granted it was written somewhere in the listing but we didn't see that fine print until the week before our visit; had we been aware we might reconsider the value of this rental.
-The cost is rather steep considering the amount of labor we needed to put in at both the beginning and end of our vacation
Thank you again to Caroline and Mike for hosting us at their property; while it wasn't a great fit for us I can imagine it being great for another family, especially one with pets.

We have returned to Caroline and Mike’s place multiple times over the years. It’s always a peaceful and comfortable place to stay, with plenty of nature, hikes, and activities nearby. Highly recommended!

We had a great stay at Caroline and Mike’s place. The house was clean and modern and the property was just gorgeous. I was traveling with my young kids, and we spent most mornings by the stream and trying to spot frogs at the pond.
Caroline and Mike were wonderful to communicate with and we hope to be back soon!

Everything we needed. Consistently used the wood stove and Kitchen amenities. My wife snowshoed out the back while I skied at Sugarbush with the kids. Close to everything we wanted to see/do.

Lots of room and a cozy stay for the winter. Great communication with host. When they say you need snow tires or 4-wheel drive it's true!

The location of the house is surrounded by a beautiful mountain setting with peace and quiet all around. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home and will definitely stay there again when in Vermont. House is as described in listing. It was also great for our dogs as there is 10 acres of property to let them explore. Piece a heaven for everyone.
The owners were great with responding to inquiries.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you have the opportunity to explore this area of Vermont.

Perfect stay for when you need to get away. The property is private and quiet, yet just a few minutes to provisions, restaurants, and recreation. I enjoyed reading on the porch surrounded by nature, daily walks on local trails, and cooking local produce and meats in the well appointed kitchen. Will be back!

We can’t recommend this house enough! We have returned multiple times for summer visits because we love the peaceful location, the comfortable house, and the proximity to great hiking and to the towns in the Mad River Valley. And Caroline and Mike are always great hosts!

This home and property and area are just great. Dirt roads, lush woods, mountains, farms, brooks, rivers, streams.
The house is comfortable and cozy. The bedrooms airy. The kitchen well supplied.
The hosts are incredibly responsive.
Note also that we stayed at this mountainside property during recent heavy rains in VT that flooded many lower-lying nearby areas. We felt safe and secure throughout.

Property was perfect for our shirt weekend trip to visit Norwich University. We enjoyed sledding down the hill behind the barn. Kitchen is very well equipped. On our last day we were greated by a flock of turkeys walking down the drive. Would stay again.

We enjoyed this clean, spacious mountain house and the surrounding area. The house was well-stocked with everything we needed for the week. It was so sweet seeing deer walk through the property and the curious neighboring cows amble down the pasture to say hello. It’s a peaceful hideaway for lazy mornings and hanging out in the evening after a day of exploring Waitsfield, Stowe, Burlington, and Montpelier. For hiking without having to get in the car, check out the Pineneedle Trail just down the road from the house. And, it’s only about 20 minutes to Waitsfield for shops, restaurants, and Lawson’s brewery. We enjoyed two dinners on the outdoor patio at Hyde Away - highly recommend!

We enjoyed the serene location. Watching the cows was fun and our dogs got a kick out of them as well.
Furniture needs some serious updating! We were willing to look beyond because the home was clean and inviting.
Cannot tell you how much we appreciated having this spot though. Beds incredibly comfortable. TV was hard to manage but we do not do a lot of streaming services at this time
Art work was really fun. Appreciated the garage when packing up on a rainy day
Would come back again as the area was fun too. Loved the local Catholic Church yesterday

Really enjoyed staying at this rural setting in the Mad River Valley. The home and property are great - beautiful farm setting and wonderful views of fall leaves from the deck and glassed-in porch. Enjoyed hiking around the hills and fields nearby. The wood stove keeps the house warm all day and into the evening. Convenient also to local sights. A great retreat for a couple or a family!

Mike and Caroline were great. What little communication we needed was prompt and helpful. We really liked the wood stove, the porches, the barn picnic table and the fire pit. So much space to spread out and little nooks to hang out in. The privacy of the property is fantastic though the cows from the adjacent farm were mildly interested in the guitar picking on the front porch. We would definitely return.

My partner and I spent a week at the property in mid-August. It was the perfect antidote to the city: cool, green, quiet, peaceful. We enjoyed taking long walks with our dog along the country roads, preparing our meals in the spacious kitchen, and enjoying a glass of wine on the deck. We loved the nearby swimming holes too. We expect to come back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property. Our family spent two weeks and found the area and home to be ideal.
We are a mix of cyclists and hikers and the region and specific location are just great for both pursuits.
We enjoyed the indoor/outdoor "summer living room" with three sides of screens and lots of shade from the woods surrounding one side of the property. And we appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms.
In addition to numerous gravel bike routes (and great walks) available right outside the door -- the location provides great access to nearby towns and the abundance of food (including farmer's markets) the they offer.
One note: The property borders a beautiful farm that hosts an occasional outdoor wedding in the summer. We were there for two of these events and barely noticed them. On the contrary, we found the proximity to this farm an asset -- as it is a huge, gorgeous place that is very quiet (except for the occasional moo from a cow ... )
Wonderful stay. Highly recommend.

Another beautiful and relaxing stay
My husband, dog, and I have been coming to this quiet retreat since 2009 and are always delighted with the setting, home, amenities, and the owners’ responsiveness. This trip was no different- the house was immaculate when we arrived, with plenty of firewood at the ready for cozy fires, a new TV for movies, and everything we needed in the kitchen for three days of dinners. The house is so beautifully built with marvelous light, and is such a great location- peaceful and quiet enough to be away from it all and see amazing stars at night without any light pollution, but also a quick drive to great hikes, skiing, and food. Every time we visit, I never want to leave - this time is no exception! Can’t wait til we come back.

Bicentennial Getaway
My wife and I stayed here for Norwich’s Bicentennial celebration. The property was even more beautiful in person and had all we needed and more in the way of amenities. The entire process was a breeze thanks to the owners. Mike was very responsive and answered all our questions in an extremely quick manner. Although not a chilly as I would hope for in September (we came up from Atlanta looking for a break from the heat) it was just cool enough for the beautiful wood burning stove in the evenings.
I would absolutely recommend the property to anyone looking for a beautiful backroad hideaway with easy access to all central Vermont’s hotspots.
10 out of 10!

Great Location
This was our first trip to Central/Northern Vermont. The home provided the perfect base for us to explore Montpelier, Burlington, and Stowe. We had some great meals in the area; check out Prohibition Pig, Blue Donkey, and the Beirhall at Von Trapp Lodge.
The owner was very easy to deal with; he promptly answered questions before our trip. There was a small technical issue during our stay and the owner responded in probably less than a minute. The situation was easily rectified.
The only complaint about the property came from Jones. She hated the cat artwork. She has graciously offered to pose for the artist - pictures of beagles in every room instead of cats would make her very happy. (Thank you for allowing us to bring our dog, despite her taste in art.)

Relaxing and Total Vermont Experience in Comfortable and Well Designed House
This was the second time my family stayed in this beautiful Vermont home and hopefully not the last. This property offers the total Vermont experience for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with close proximity to many of the surrounding ski areas. The house was very clean and comfortable and accommodated my family of four and large German Shepherd. My children and I enjoyed exploring the property and hiking the surrounding area. This property offers the total Vermont experience from the location, landscape and the home itself.

great location
We loved the location. Good access to many choices of downhill and cross country skiing as well as many restaurants. We also enjoyed the property itself. Quiet spot - cows in the snow field, beautiful woods, friendly dog from next door. The house had everything needed for a perfect stay. We enjoyed all of it and hope to return again.

Relaxing and Beautiful
Wonderful property!! Instantly relaxing when you get there. There are so many things we love about this house! The peaceful setting, the view of the picturesque farm next door, the artwork, the tasteful furniture, the sunporch (had breakfast out there every morning), the gorgeous star-filled night skies – there are too many things to list. Booking was easy, and Michael was very responsive to questions. We enjoyed the area’s many attractions (hiking, horseback riding, soaring) and amazing restaurants and breweries. We definitely plan to return. A very special place!

Wonderful, cozy retreat!
This house has everything you need. The place is bright and open, with lots of room for everyone. We had a white Christmas, could snowshoe right behind the barn and warm up in front of the fire at night. The cows were fun to watch and the neighbor's dog (who loved to come down the hill to visit) was very friendly. We didn't want to leave!

Stargazing and Firefly Spotting
We stayed at Mike and Caroline's house in Moretown for several summer days. We chose the property because we like to stargaze -- which means a dark sky. We weren't disappointed. The property is on 10 acres, and we were able to see a ton of stars. But before that show, there were thousands of fireflies flittering around the meadow near the firepit.
The house itself is roomy and airy. We were delighted to find a perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet and griddle for pancakes (with VT maple syrup, of course). The house is immaculate and we really enjoyed birdwatching on the summer porch. If you're looking for a retreat in Vermont, your search is over. The house is about 15 minutes away from American Flatbread, and it's an easy 30 minute drive to Waterbury (Ben & Jerry's, Prohibition Pig, and Green Mountain Coffee).
If you're a TV watcher, bring DVDs as the cable is very limited and you won't get CNN or other typical cable channels. You'll also need to either bring your own linens or rent them, as we did. Finally, this is the place to unplug, which is great since we were beyond AT&T cell service. Enjoy!

Perfect House for Ski Vacation
Just returned from a wonderful week staying at Mike and Caroline's house in Moretown. We loved using the house as a base for a fantastic ski vacation. The house is conveniently located, and we skied at Mad River Glenn, Sugarbush and Stowe. There are a number of great restaurants close by, including American Flatbread, Prohibition Pig (in Waterbury) and Mad Taco in Waitsfield. The Valley is gorgeous, and we loved having this great house as a base to explore. Would come back in a second.
Mike and Caroline were extremely responsive, and answered numerous emails leading up to the trip promptly.

Bright and Peaceful Mountain Getaway
Shhhh....Don't let too many folks in on how beautiful this area is ;) We ( 4 adults and a dog) had a wonderful stay at this mountain retreat while visiting family in the area. The pictures are very accurate and everything was quite clean. It's wonderful that dogs are allowed, but you would not know it based on how clean and fresh things were. Since it was January we did not get the opportunity to use the sun porch, but if we are back in nice weather(hopefully!), I know that will be my favorite spot. I loved waking up in the morning and looking out at the farmland and watching the cows. Lots of land on the property and surrounding areas for hikes and snow shoeing; we had just enough snow to make that possible. The entryway is perfect for getting set to hit the snow and unbundling after a long day of fun.
Caroline and Mike were extremely responsive and helpful. We all had a wonderful time and I'm so glad we found such a great spot for when we visit again. Hope to be back soon!

A toasty haven for a wonderful ski retreat!
This is a wonderful vacation rental. It's hard for the pictures to really do it justice. The home itself is really lovely: beautiful architecture, bright and warm, a nice big kitchen with modern appliances, and lots of space to spread out. Not to mention the jet bath! The location was just what we were after: it's on a private piece of land, away from town, making it feel like a real retreat, but an easy 20-25 minute drive to Sugarbush / Mad River Glen ski hills (plus, bonus, the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory!), and just a few minutes from shops and restaurants. We really felt like we got lucky to stay at this spot. The owners are also very courteous and helpful. This would be a really great spot as well for a family with space for kids. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a holiday rental in this area.

Great place
We have been coming up to VT to ski for a couple of years and stayed at a local hotel. We got tired of listening to other guests come in at all hours of the night, as this does not make for very good skiing the next day, and so we decided to look for something a bit more peaceful and with more room. A friend recommended VRBO as she uses it all the time. After looking and looking and not finding anything reasonably priced, I finally found this house. It is just what we were looking for: reasonably priced, spacious, dog friendly, clean, and close to Sugarbush. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are comfortable. For me and my family, it was in the perfect location. There are lovely roads for walking the dog and on the way back to the house, there is a grocery store in Waitsfield where we could pick up dinner. It is easy to get to and the owners were very helpful. I'm looking forward to coming back next winter.

peaceful and quiet, perfect Vermont!
We had an awesome time! Thank you so much for sharing your house with us, we loved the location, it was close enough to all the places we love up there yet far enough off the main roads, peaceful and quiet. Your house was perfect, clean and comfortable and that woodstove kept it so toasty! We went for an adventurous snow shoe up bald mountain, wonderful view of camels hump up there! One of my favorite moments was when the cows came out Sunday morning while we were making blueberry pancakes and bacon we had picked up at the Montpelier Farmers Market. They trotted down the hill towards the house and to their watering hole by the road, cows and calves , while the big bull stood on the hill watching over them! it was Vermont picture perfect! The doggies are also very grateful you allowed them to stay too!

Getting Away From It All
This home was really a lovely escape for my family. The home was well kept and suited our needs perfectly in the accommodations and the layout. There is one bedroom and bathroom on one end of the house and another pair of bedrooms and bathroom on the other end. The first bedroom was for friends of ours and the other side was for us and our child. We were able to be awake early with our child and not wake our friends. There was ample room to spread out, yet the room configuration was close enough to reach everyone quickly. The home was really quiet and was nice to come back to after a day of activities surrounded by people. There is no cell service within the house. It was really great to be unplugged from everything!
Mike and Caroline were extremely easy to work with. Forthcoming with answers and information to all of our questions. Very responsive via email for any of our needs. Overall we experienced no issues with them or the house and would recommend this to friends.

Great Weekend Getaway
My husband and I rented this house for a long weekend in February with my sister and brother-in-law to be and our black lab mix. All five of us had a wonderful time and would not have changed a thing about our accommodations. The house was quiet, comfortable, and had everything that we needed. The unique art and decor around the house was a wonderful plus that we all enjoyed.
We all skied at Sugarbush during our first day, which was only a 15-20 minute drive from the house (Jasper spent the day at Lucky Dog Daycare in Warren, which we would also highly recommend). While the rest of the gang went back for a second day of skiing, Jasper and I hung around the house (he loved watching the cows at the property next door) and went running and hiking in the area, which was a lot of fun. The house is a short drive from American Flatbread and a local Shaws; we enjoyed both eating out and cooking in (the kitchen is well-equip) during our stay. The owners were great to work with and incredibly responsive. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a laid back rental in a beautiful area with easy access to stores, restaurants, and skiing. We hope to make another trip back next year.

Perfect spot to relax!
Our family of three plus dog had a wonderful time at Mike and Caroline's home. It was very clean, comfortable and warm. The full size kitchen, ample dining area and wood burning stove made it complete! It is a perfect location to get away from it all, but so close to skiing. We especially enjoyed long walks down the country road. I must add that our dog LOVED the neighbors cows! We had a wonderful stay -two times- thanks to the owners graciousness when my husband threw his back out skiing. We hope to return again! Thanks to you both!

Wonderful Getaway - May 2011
My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at this lovely home. We were able to bring our lab, Lulu, with us and that made the time even more special. The house was clean when we arrived and nicely furnished. We were only about a 10 minute ride to the city of Montpelier, which has lots of good places to eat and cute shops. Also near by, is the Mad River, where you can spend your days swimming or as we did, letting the dog fetch a stick.
The owners, Mike and Caroline, are super. We got locked out of the house and we were able to call them and get back in within minutes!! Hey, you don't get that type of quick service even at the best hotels.
We will definately stay here again.

An Excellent Choice
We have stayed in many vacation rentals over many years in many different states and countries, and this lovely home rates among the best. The environs were as peaceful and private as one could hope for, the house itself was scrupulously clean and elegantly designed, and the amenities were more than sufficient for invoking a comfortable feeling of "home away from home."
The owners were helpful and promptly responsive from the moment I emailed my first inquiry about renting the property to the time we got our deposit back after we returned home, and they were available by phone while we were in the house.
We stayed during the month of July, so we never cozied up to the woodstove... But the well-screened windows throughout the house and sunporch, the skylight in the kitchen and the big deck off the dining room allowed us to enjoy the natural beauty of sunshine and breezes, the sounds of crickets and creekflow, and the clean scent of rainshowers without even having to change out of our pjs and slippers! Very relaxing indeed.
Cooking was a breeze in the spacious kitchen, I can personally attest to the wonders of the jacuzzi tub, there was plenty of privacy within the house for each of the four of us staying there, and the beds were extremely comfortable - an important factor for the over-50 crowd (that would be us) and a definite bonus for folks of any age who looks forward to sleeping well on their vacation.
As far off the beaten path as this property is, it was a surprisingly quick trip into Montpelier. We spent quite a bit of time in that town, and enjoyed the 25 minute drive each way every time we made the trip. Burlington was also fairly accessible, though we only had to make that trip once to drive someone to the airport.
Our only regret is that we live too far away to plan a return trip to this Moretown hideaway anytime soon. In Vermont, every season has its charms; I'm equally sure that this house is charming in every season.
Thank you Michael and Caroline!

Great Weekend - Perfect Location
Four of us spent a lovely 3-day weekend in a perfect location close to many conveniences and attractions, yet in a most private, secluded spot. The home was bright and open, very comfortable, and the woodstove provided just the right ambiance and kept us cozy and warm. Wood for the stove was conveniently placed near the stove in the living room, as well as a good supply of it within easy reach right outside the front door. The area surrounding the house was the real gem, however, with fields for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and best yet....sledding! We four "fifty-somethings" spent a delightful afternoon sledding, coasting down the long, gently sloping hills and trudging back up repeatedly....almost like we were kids again. There were acres and acres of fields in which to snowshoe, with well-trod pathways through the woods, up the hillside, along a ridge line, then back to the property. When not outside playing, there was nearby Waitsfield to explore, with quaint shops and local restaurants, as well as one of the best brew pubs we've been to in a long time in Waterbury, not 20 minutes away. Back in Montpelier, also less than half an hour away, there was an even larger choice of restaurants. We followed the suggestions and recommendations of the property owners, and were not disappointed in our restaurant choices. For those choosing to cook in, the kitchen is well-stocked with all the necessary appliances and utensils. Seeing the back deck and three-season sunroom almost made us wish that our visit had been in the summer, not winter. The house very comfortably accommodated two couples (two bedrooms with double beds, each with a private bath), but would have worked well for a larger family gathering, as the living room also had a very comfortable futon. There's even a small bedroom equipped with a crib and children's furniture. For non-skiers such as ourselves, it was still the quintessential Vermont winter weekend! We not only highly recommend the property, we hope to return again ourselves.
