We had a good time overall. There are a few things that are notable: The lids to the hanging pots and pans were greasy and dirty. The cooktop has only a small and a large burner, and we could not figure out if the rest of the cooktop was usable, so couldn't cook several things at the same time, although there is a microwave and toaster oven, but no real oven (The lack of an oven IS mentioned in description). Propane grill outside. Very near the highway, so less quite & peaceful than we would have liked. Many steps (~60) to the deck down by the water. The inside of the house was clean, the outside was not, but I swept the porch and the deck, which was full of cobwebs (noted in the later info we were given, & brooms were provided). The kayak is very old, not easy to access on the slope, so we didn't use it. There are lots of floats and chairs provided, able to use the boat slip and lift. A stressful team effort to get the boat through the narrow concrete bridge to access the larger part of the lake.The water is not as clear as other parts of the lake we've been to, as it's in a smaller branch. Having info that showed the actual addresses of nearby stores & restaurants would have been really helpful since the house is near both VA and NC. Few drinking glasses, mostly plastic. TP provided is the super thin. Towels are normal sized - no big beach towels. Chairs and pillows on porch are old and dirty. Nice shaded view & price. Good value for the money for our short getaway.

Property was as described, great location, loads of privacy, fantastic swimming off the private dock, very comfortable.

If you want to truly disconnect, this is the place for you. Cell phone service is spotty at the house and the wifi was so/so. I wasn't trying to work so it wasn't an issue for me. It's a quiet neighborhood, great for dog walking. There are 61 stairs from the house down to the dock. There is a small area on the dock where you can get some sun and a small area under cover for shade. We enjoyed morning coffee in the gazebo. The only real negative is the stove. The burners don't get very hot. It took 30 min to sauté some mushrooms and onions for an omelet. I gave up on trying to boil a pot of water for pasta. There are a few restaurants nearby so make it a vacation and don't cook!

The residence was very clean and comfortable. A great place for mental relaxation just to get away from it all. The gazebo on the lake is a perfect spot for morning breakfast or late light meal. Nice and peaceful neighborhood. Would definitely stay again in the near future. Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your home.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon for a week at the beginning of May. The house was perfect and located in a quiet neighborhood in a quiet town. We had no issues checking in or out and no issues throughout our stay. There were a few very very minor things but they did not affect our thoughts on the stay, such as a missing lightbulb, some dying remote batteries (which we just turned them around and they worked again) and a little trouble with one of the screendoors locking but we just used the other one beside it. These were not an inconvenience though and we would absolutely stay here again. We spent the week fishing off our boat and fishing off the dock. Off the dock alone, we caught some crappie, catfish, pike, sunfish, and yellow perch. The lights going down the steps to the dock were a nice and convenient touch for being on the dock at night. For dinner one evening we went to the local Mexican Restaurant in Bracey, El Huasteco, highly recommend this place - the best salsa I've ever had. The best place we ate, hands down was down the road in South Hill at a place called The Hungry Farmer. Amazing fresh food. One thing I should mention is although the driveway has a circle part, it is a little hard to maneuver IF you have a huge truck WITH a trailer but it does have a lot of parking space and a nice spot for a trailer to sit once you get it in there. The neighbors were super nice and helpful and were not a bother at all and stayed to themselves. 10/10 reccomend

This property was nestled in a quiet court in a lovely neighborhood. We were able to sit outside in many beautiful areas, fish from the deck , and appreciate nature. The experience was easy from start to finish. Wish we could have stayed longer.

This was the third time I stayed here. Always a pleasure. House is clean and in a nice quiet neighborhood. Owners respond to any questions asked in a timely fashion. Will definitely stay here again.

The house was exactly as it was described. It's in a great area to access both Gaston and Kerr boat ramps. The place is well-equipped and extremey clean and up to date. The bathrooms were spotless and nice to have two of them. The view was great, as were all of the neighbors that we met during our short stay. The property is well maintained and we had plenty of parking for our boats and vehicles. The host was the best, she answered all of our questions quickly and completely. This is a great place to stay. I would reccomend it to everyone and will certainly be visiting again.

We 3 ladies who have known each other since middle & high school (46+ years ago) who reacquainted at a 40th reunion 6 years ago and have become the best of friends. We decided it was time to do more than talk on the phone so we rented this place. It was absolutely perfect in every way. The outdoor setup was perfect and the view spectacular.

It is such a pleasure to sit outside with a view of the lake and a morning coffee. Thank you to Susan for being a wonderful host!

My hubby enjoyed fishing. I hung out and read all weekend. It was nice and quiet.

My son and I had a great fishing trip. Beautiful weather and the location couldn’t have been better.

Nice getaway with a fully stocked home. Lounging in bed while looking at the lake was the perfect complement to a good book and readily available coffee just down the hall. Especially loved that it was pet friendly as our dog child loves her stays along lakefronts too.

Property was a perfect fit for our girls' weekend and as described. Accommodations were clean and everything that we needed for a comfortable stay was provided. We had a wonderful stay and will be back and recommend to others.

This was our first time booking a lake vacation (we are historically Nags Head vacationers) and we had a great time. The house was just as promised - convenient to the marina and main lake, large parking area for cars and boat, gazebo was perfect for morning coffee and afternoon drinks (gate lock was a nice touch for dogs), dock for boat complete with a battery charger which we needed and saved us from having to bring ours down the hill, the house was very clean and provided us with all the amenities we needed and Susan was quick to respond to questions and very accommodating. Our water dog enjoyed her daily swims in the lake and was able to climb the bank to exit the water. Jumping in and out became a game to her🐕🐕. We would definitely book with her again. The marina was only minutes away where we purchased gas and ice. The Dollar General was 4.5 miles away where you can pick up almost anything you forgot. Next trip I’m going to the winery which is just 2.7 miles from the house and was beautiful. My only suggestion would be to update the outside deck chairs. Everything else was perfect for us. Hope to rebook for a future get away. Thanks again Susan for being a wonderful host!

We stayed here two years ago and loved it again. Three comfortable bedrooms, lovely living room and kitchen. Highly recommend.

The host of this property was friendly and responded quickly to my questions. Linens were provided, too, which was really nice.

Everything was great. Does seem like providing trash service would be good but really enjoyed our stay.

The house was a great location and a very nice home. Some minor issues such as light bulbs burnt out and some damaged boards on the boat dock and stairs, but as soon as we called the owner she got to work right away on getting repairs made while we were still there. I'm personally not a big fan of all the steps to the boat dock but that doesn't change my overall opinion of the property. Was perfect for our family of 4! Wish we would have stayed longer.

House was very clean, and location was perfect! The steps to the dock are not for elderly or handicap, but other than that, it was perfect!

The house was clean and located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Fishing down on the dock was great and when the sun became a little much, sitting in the gazebo having drinks and seeing a variety of birds, especially the bald eagle was great.

Awesome area of the lake, the property definitely needs some tlc on the outside, a couple of the boards on the dock needs replaced due to rot. The house gutters are clogged. Other than that the neighbors were very nice and the place is nice and shady.

The house was really nice. The bed was really comfortable. We enjoyed the lake, the views, and the gazebo with our coffee and meals. We hope to stay again in the future

Perfect quick get away. House was exactly as described and pictured. Like most of the homes at Gaston there were plenty of steps down to the water, but my legs are in better shape now! It’s also clear in the description that there is no stove. So prepare your meals for this. I loved the cozy atmosphere of this home and we thoroughly enjoyed fishing from the dock. Although there are no steps to the water for the dogs, mine had no problem navigating the rocks to get in or out. It could be a problem for older dogs though. This was a great house with comfortable beds and couches and served our purpose of a relaxing long weekend. We will be back!

This property is just as pictured. Home is very clean and comfortable. Plenty of fresh towels. Outside is so nice, with lake view& gazebo. Enjoyed the fire pit during our week-end stay. Boathouse is nice for fishing& relaxing, but the steps to it are not for the aging adult. Enjoyed our stay!

This was a truly relaxing and enjoyable stay. The house is warm and welcoming and has so much provided for you so you can reduce your packing! The location was absolutely perfect for my husband and stepson to put the boat in and fish from the dock. We came for a fishing tournament, and there was plenty of room for our truck and boat trailer. Very close to Holly Grove Marina, by boat or car, and only a short drive to Interstate 85. Would definitely stay here again.

Our group has stayed in the house for the last 3 years for a long weekend in March. We fish the lake and it is the perfect location where we can leave our boat in the water at the dock behind the house. Beautiful views from the house which sits high above the lake. The house is nice and clean and has everything we need. We hope to be back again next March.
