Booked weeks in advanced. Unfortunately there was a rule re: pets not stated in advanced (at least through third-party booking.com) that made it impossible to stay as planned. Had to cancel plans for the evening due to this situation. In order to expedite our exit without an extended discussion, I begrudgingly offered to pay the first night that I might at least get a partial refund. Given the modified terms not previously stated in our agreement, it is my position that I should have gotten a full refund. I paid for a service I did not receive. This is exacerbated by the fact both me and my wife are locals. Anyone who’s lived in the DR knows what a local salary is like. I was charged the equivalent of my wife’s weekly salary (45 hr week) for a night and we never actually stayed. As much as I dont want a lingering bad feeling with the owner, this is obviously very upsetting. The owner expressed disappointment at having to agree to lose the ability to sell 2 nights. Frankly it’s hard to feel bad for that because (1) the rule that caused the whole issue was nowhere to be found in the booking page as acknowledged by the owner herself (she looked through the page with me) and (2) I sincerely doubt her losing 2 nights of business is anywhere near my wife working 45 hours and essentially having to give that money away just to avoid an argument.

I've travelled extensively throughout my life. I've seen the worst, and the best - and Garden By The Sea is among the best. I could not have been more pleased. Nikki is an absolute sweetheart. The accomodation was impeccable. Do not hesitate to book this place!

It was a beautiful property, nice size rooms and very friendly staff. Breakfast was delicious and the beach was only a 3 minute walk away.

The laid back, low key atmosphere was exactly what we needed and this place did not disappoint. Meeting new people and making new friends was a great bonus. The honor bar is a great perk. Nikki goes above and beyond to put the needs/requests of her guests her priority. If you are in need of anything, do not hesitate to ask her. The B & B pets really add a touch of coziness.

Wonderful cozy area. Great friendly helpful hostess Nikki. Just 6 rooms, no crowd. Great breakfast. Coffee, drinking water, ice available. 2 kitchens available to use. Very clean. Nice convenient rooms, comfortable bed.
Beach is a bit temperous. A bit too much chlorine in shower/sink water.

The property is super beautiful and in a quiet spot that’s perfect for relaxing. Nikki the host is very warm, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was always delicious and filling.
It isn’t easy to get around unless you rent a car. There are not tons of restaurants you can reach on foot and it wasn’t always easy to get a taxi. The beach nearby is lovely but had big waves when we visited so only suitable for confident swimmers.

Great little hotel. Fabulous rooms, great pool, super niece owner! Second time staying here and I would go back. Really lovely and relaxing place
Place is fantastic. Beach is not great, but pool is wonderful. Souza is becoming less attractive as a town

The room was very nice and the water is drinkable although I didn't try it 🤣🤣🤣 wifi signal was strong and the bed was comfortable 👍 My girlfriend snored so I didn't sleep as well 😴. Nicki is a great hostess and the facility was very well maintained. I will definitely stay there again in the future 😉
