Very cool 1920’s lobby. Like stepping back in time. Onsen was nice. Free coffee and sitting area.
Found hairs in room. It was not cleaned properly. Odd smell to the room. Common areas and hallways a bit run down
2.0
Friendly staff, spacious room and nice atmosphere in the onsen facilities, despite bad condition of the place overall
The most terrible hotel experience i have ever had. Very bad condition of the building. Urgently needs renovation. Smell of mold in the hallway, elevator almost broke down, carpet in the lobby was completely worn out.

The ambience and onsen facilities were unique and homey
It was older than I expected

Good location. Old but well maintained. Rooms are a good size and comfortable.

at least they had a good onsen
no dinner/breakfast service. They said it's because of COVID19, but it was June 2023 already. lobby had some collection maybe worth seeing but they turned off the air conditioner so really hot

A historical ryokan...a walk into the early 20th century featuring a working gramophone
Due to the reduced services offered...their rate to stay overnight is much lower than othet ryokans around the area
Much of the facilities are closed off and services have stopped...perhaps due to low patronage and post covid economy...there were no boarding meals, and no sauna service...just room and public bath offered.

Room was splendid, location was good. Onsen was great, the little details in the room was perfect eg the tea set in a box, a flask for hot and cold water. The matcha in the bags
Yukatas present and ready for us
the wifi connection was the only downside. It was so bad. I have been travelling for 21 days out of 44 in 3 countries and many prefectures in Japan, the wifi here was the worse

for Very traditional Japanese hotel that tells it golen history in the past. The lobby shows a lot of olddies like the gramaphone, the old black vinyl music records. Somehow, Takeo onsen is not as popular as some of the other places we visited. So there is no much night activities outside. The hotel only offers board. So, u need to look for food outside. We wanted local wegyu beef. Our hotel staff gave us an excellent recommendation and helped us to make a reservation. Hotel lobby offers tea and coffee for free and u can sit and sip to enjoy old music and reminiscent of it old glory. We loved every bit of it.

Japanese style accommodation in a thousand year hot spring. What more is you can live in an environment in hundred years ago when you can touch and play the phonograph aged over hundred years.
No meals served

the vibe is good.
toilet is smelly.

Pretty close to the Takeo Onsen shinkansen station.
By looking at the interior you might think that you are in the real Showa ryokan.
Onsen bath is very refreshing.
High humidity due to the room I stayed in.

What a cool place to stay. Lots of really interesting stuff here.
Having spent a little extra money for the room with a private bath, I'm glad I did.

the hotel is like a Showa museum, very old time vibes and a 100-year old crank record player that still works in the lobby. it’s like traveling back in time to visit but we quite liked the old vibes.

Really wonderful location, close to Takeo-onsen and the train station. This hotel has an interesting collection of Taisho-era antiques, including a delightful music player. The onsen is also relaxing.
Some of the facilities are in disrepair. There were uneven parts of flooring beneath the tatami mats, and the air-conditioners need to be cleaned. I hope they can fix this place up soon, it seems like a historic property.

The whole inn is old but tidy, clean, has a traditional antique feeling and I like it. I was surprised because my room feels bigger than I expected. It is totally a great deal for the value!
The building is very old and the wall is thin, so I heard some sounds (like people’s chat) from other rooms. Bath tub in each room is small and look like one in a small apartment (and old.) Would be better to use a big public onsen in the inn, or you have some other traditional Takeo public big baths nearby for your choice.
