Clean, modern, airy and light design with amazing views. Fabulous place to relax and enjoy the ocean views and breezes. Plunge pool and outdoor shower are amazing.

Nothing
What can I say ! This place sucks !!! Absolutely below standard place do not book at this resort !!! We unfortunately booked our Christmas vacation, paid $5400 dollars for 3 night stay! and were outmost disappointed
First of all the resort looks nothing like the pictures. The tiny square they call a pool was moldy, green spots inside the liner of the pool. Walking in to the master rooms at 110 degrees, looks like they were using cheap AC units that were inoperable and incapable of actually cooling down. The master bedrooms upstairs were a furnace!!!! Not just that the AC units were out, the rooms smelt like mold and mildew not sure if it was a readily of sewage odor. We waited about couple of hours and the rooms did not cool down.
The slider doors didn’t lock and driving up to the rooms was a massive steep hillside driveway that can only get to by a car.
Super awful !
Don’t be fooled !!!! There is not a real view! the trees hide the entire ocean view so you are looking at a bunch of trees pretty much.
We complained that AC not working and the owner completely denied it without coming to even see!!!
The resort adversities 2 master bedrooms and two full bathrooms but failed to mention there is only one un conditioned toilet to share outside of the bedrooms 🤯
- as a reply to our complaints the manager called the owner and the owner told us to sleep down at the living room !!!! And if we don’t like it we should leave the hotel (yeah in the middle of a foreign country ???) after not refunding us our monies and denying us access to collect our suitcases.
Great answer boss 👎🏻
This was a nightmare vacation ! This guy ruined our family’s happiest time
Of the year. We palmed this vacation months ahead. We were 6 guests with 6 suite cases spending our vacation

Great location and views.
After raining, a 4x4 vehicle is needed to get to hotel (slippery hill).
Delon room was a bit noise (you can hear steps of a room above)
No TV or other accessories in room (hair dryer)
Besides the Bar and the Pool, there is no other places/activities within the hotel.

We booked the Nicholson Villa for our family of five and absolutely loved our stay. We had our own private plunge pool, which was a great way to cool down.
Breakfast was included in our stay, and it was incredible — fresh fruit, fresh fruit smoothies, yogurt, eggs, bacon, toast, tomatoes, avocados, arroz con frijoles, coffee, etc. Eduardo and Alexia (father and daughter team, who manage the property)are very accessible, friendly, and helpful.
We really loved the location. It’s a little outside of downtown Santa Teresa, but walkable to town. There is a beautiful beach across the street from the resort.
It was a vacation we will remember forever. We didn’t want to leave and are actively planning our return.
The property is located at the top of a steep hill. This isn’t bad, per se, but rather something you should be prepared for. We had a car, but we also scaled the hill several times coming to/from the beach. It is a paved road from the resort to the road.

The McQueen villa is just amazing!
If you ever stop at Akwa resort, make sure to book a surf lesson with Bernal. He taught all 4 of us to actually stand on the board in the waves in less than 1 hour! Don’t miss it!

Location nice property
Lost power 2 nights no flashlight or kit and it was dark. Construction was going on but they did discount the stay.
3.5
The property is decorated with good taste, perfectly incorporated in nature. The views for the ocean are breathtaking, from the highest rooms and the pool area. Breakfast was simple, but did lack some quality and the kitchen was not clean enough.
Disclaimer: this review is based on my experience and expectations of one of the rooms, not the cottages.
From the moment you arrive and you see a very steep hill in front of you, it can easily be demoted. I've never seen such a precipitous road like this in my travels - and with a rental car, you kind of second guess if you're going to be able to make it. We eventually did, with some help by the security guard that is at the gate.
After that first challenge, you are welcomed by Alexia. She was nice and did helped us with our heavy luggage, but you expect a resort to have more staff to help you with this task. She showed us the room, spacious, white and absolutely sultry. It would have been nice of them to turn on the AC some minutes before our arrival, since the weather was hot and humid with a feel of 40ºC. Probably because of the humidity, the toilet and the bathroom cabinets had a weird smell, that prolonged for the entire week. Our room was right next to the office and the wall is actually a window that close with the lightest curtains, that don't even go all the way trough. Anyone who passed by the driveway and looked up, could see us. Needless to say, you wake up at 5 in the morning when the sun rises through them. There is no choice of breakfast, everyday you get the same options - and the ladies who serve it seemed grumpy everyday.
On our second day, there was a strong storm late in the afternoon and the lights went out for more than 2 hours. There is no one at the property from 17h so you are completely on your own to resolve any problems that may occur. We did text Alexia to try and figure out what the problem was, but got no response nor an explanation. We eventually asked her father, and he said it was normal in the area - guess they don't want to invest in a generator like most restaurants in town do.
Overall, it is a nice property, very far from a 5-star one, that definitely needs a price-quality adjustment.

Lovely hotel - quiet spot, amazing breakfast and so relaxing to wake up with views of the ocean
the hill to get to the hotel is crazy difficult. It’s a shame there aren’t some steps to walk up
4.5
Amazing view and Location. Nice and clean.
the “private “pool is right by the road, they could easily install a few plants to have more privacy.
toilets not inside bedroom very strange layout, also could easily be improved.

We loved the view and the fact it was quiet. We stayed in the Kate room that had a nice patio surrounded by a lush garden. Eduardo was very helpful with our luggage for both our arrival and departure. The shuttle bus would leave/pick us up from the main road only, so it is a bit of a hike to Akwa, let alone with suitcases!!! Thanks Eduardo!
the steep entrance!

your own private villa, lovely staff and great breakfast, also very private location, but close enough to town.

The views was spectacular! Eduardo the host was very nice & welcoming, the room was big, the staff was polite.
The climb to the room was a bit challenging but at the end the views are awesome!
As I mentioned, the climb.. You must rent a jeep 4x4 with low gear to be able to climb this hill

The break fast was awesome and the staff that brought it the sweetest.

Location was great, away from the busy street but still close to the beach and restaurants. Room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast each morning was good and convenient. Eduardo was a great host and helped us with taxis. We rented an ATV which helped us get up and down the hill and get around the city, would recommend.
We would have liked a little more privacy. We had workers walking by our room with glass walls nearly every day which can be pretty awkward.
4.5
Really comfortable room with amazing views and very relaxing overall. Steep driveway up to it but worth it for the views! Beach a short 5 min walk away too and lovely restaurants which we walked to (15-30mins walk away).
Breakfast was a little disappointing, the first morning none of the staff spoke English and we spoke very limited Spanish so we didn’t know what to ask for and the staff couldn’t help. It is the same breakfast everyday and despite being delicious, after 10 days it gets very repetitive! Would be nice to have some things more as a buffet style as would have loved more fresh fruit!
4.5
The room was peaceful with a beautiful view. my husband enjoyed the coffee maker and the mini frig was nice. there was a rack for drying swim gear too. The infinity pool was relaxing. The manager was available by WhatsApp and helped us to book a ferry ticket when it would not work on my phone.
Be aware the hill to access the property is very steep so if you are driving a standard you need to be able to deal with that.
The chair in our room was missing a screw and was unstable.

Elisabetta is the soul of the place. She only arrived here 5 month ago and is just brilliant. Speaks fluent englisch, German, Italien, spanisch and French. She is super helpful, full of ideas and a super host. She knows the best surf instructor for the kids, where to go for horse back riding, rent the car and have the best ceviche in town.
The villa Nicolson was very nice too. Very light, warm and we felt immediately at home. the location is perfect, just five minutes away from the buzz of Santa Teresa town, with a beautiful view on the sea.
breakfast was delicious!
We stayed here with our kids and felt so welcomed and enjoyed every minute. Thank you!

such a cool place with some amazing views. we stayed in the garden view room which was super spacious and comfortable. Elizabette the host is a full rockstar.
it’s a bit of a walk to the main strip so get a Atv or motorbike for ease.

Elisabetta was the main facility manager who took care of any bookings for outings and restaurants. she was exceptional, really made the trip as good as it was. probably the best service industry worker ive ever encountered. Whatever theyre paying her, they should pay her more lmao😂

This is an amazing experience that we have lived there. Elisabetta is an amazing host always giving us good tips and always careful of our comfort, the house is just fabulous with an infinite view, a very nice pool and amazingly clean. You cannot wish better for holidays.

Our room was lovely, spacious and clean with an amazing view of the ocean. The hosts were very helpful and always willing to go the extra mile.
The walk to the centre of Santa Teresa was a little long and the hill up to the property was slightly difficult to drive up.
4.5
the hotel manager was extremely helpful, she was available throughout our whole stay and made everything very comfortable. We didn’t know much about Santa Teresa and she guided us through the place and helped us pick the best spots for activities and food. She made the stay really worth it :)
Might add some flexibility on afternoon snacks
4.5
amazing view on the ocean (bardot lodge) with private pool, very clean and modern, good breakfast, monkeys in the trees that we could see from the terrasse, lot of birds (parrots). really recommended
no restaurant onsite for lunch/dinner, works around the lodge not advertised at the booking (building a few extra houses) so noisy from 7:00AM, very steep incline to arrive at the lodge but manageable

We stayed with Eduardo and staff for two days in later April of 2022 and Akwa was awesome every step of the way. We hired a car from Liberia airport (about 4.5 miles of travel) to get to this property. Our flight was delayed but Eduardo was on top of every email and communication to be sure we were ok arriving later than the normal time. Breakfast was exquisite (and the coffee, wow). The pool is amazing. The room was gorgeous, view perfect. The only thing that may bother some are the ants that are in the room but this is part of staying in the jungle area! We opened our windows to hear the ocean and could see the waves rolling from the room. Nearby was Cafe Social for breakfast and Rocamar for dinner - think fish tacos, ceviche, great drinks right on the beach for incredible sunsets and great music (family-friendly and couple-friendly). When we wanted to rent an atv for the day (around $70 USD and TOTALLY worth it) to ride out to Montezuma Beach (do not miss this cool little beach town) Eduardo arranged everything. As a heads-up, the hotel is up a very steep hill; I am in great shape and it was still a bit of a hike for me. You can't walk up with luggage so don't plan to do so. It is a bit of a walk into the main area of ST but we loved that because it helped us wear off all of the food and drinks from the day. The beach is a five minute walk and if you get to the beach and take a right you walk down to the pools for soaking in at low tide. Overall this hotel is wonderful. We stayed in two others while in ST and kept saying we wished we had stayed at Akwa for the whole trip.
The ants in the room may dissuade some but it is natural and they are certainly not terrible. Our shower handle was a little janky so we didn't think it worked the first night but that was 100% tired user-error! Heads-up the hill is a steep climb but awesome exercise!!!

everything was amazing

Great view, beautiful hotel and pool.
The reception girls was super nice and welcome. And the breakfast was really nice.
The room that we took was near to the reception and in front of the parking area so it was really non private room. The noise from the atv that parking was terrible.
It was impossible to darken the room so we wake up very early every morning, and a nap was not really possible.

We loved our stay here. This was our first time to Santa Teresa and we’re here to surf and relax. The property is gorgeous, the staff is so friendly and accommodating for all your needs and the facilities were always clean. I would recommend staying here to anyone who visits Santa Teresa and is looking for a quiet escape.

I could not speak highly enough about this resort, great location, great hosts, Eduardo was soo helpful, this place really couldn’t do enough to be hospitable
property is located on a steep incline hill, if you are less able I would bear this in mind. taxis are willing to drop at the top of the hill but we had issues with the shuttles drop off and collection.
