A propos de ce maisonrental
Beautiful Victorian Cottage on Downeast Maine Coast ~ Next to Acadia Schoodic !

Our adult children and their partners met us in winter Harbor for a short family gathering. Time was limited because of their jobs so we needed a location where everything we needed and wanted to do was close by. The Victorian cottage in Winter Harbor was perfect. Is attractive and well equipped with all the amenities we needed and more. The location was perfect for biking in the park for walking to restaurants and shops and exploring nearby communities. The outdoor space was small, but work nicely with the firing in the center of the picnic table, a bike rack, and nice gas grill. It also had a pleasant view, and the neighbors were very nice, allowing us to set up our cornhole on the edge of their property.

Great house and yard. Enjoyed eating in the yard and playing games inside on the foggy morning. Visits to Schoodic Point, Prospect Harbor and Corea.

The house was great. Wonderfully kept older home. Very clean and everything was perfect. We really enjoyed the charming town of Winter Harbor. We experienced several of the local restaurants and thought they were all good. Perfect place to stay if you want to relax and enjoy the quiet.

We had a wonderful time at this charming home. It is one of the best rentals I have ever visited. It felt more like staying at a friend’s home. The house was well stocked with so many extras that enhanced our stay. We preferred the quiet atmosphere of Winter Harbor over the hustle and bustle we found on our visit to Bar Harbor. Our favorite activity was definitely the time we spent searching for sea glass on the sandy beach near the house. The local grocery store had everything we needed and the grab and go chowder was some of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend and hope to return one day!

This is a lovely property that accommdated the six of us easily. The hosts provide everything you need to enjoy the quaint town of Winter Harbor. Definitely recommend this property!

We had 3 generations (ages 20-81) in Stephen & Suzanne's home for 5 nights. They thought of every detail. Beds were very comfortable. TV room was perfect with 4 recliners and a fireplace under the TV. Plenty of games. Only steps from several restaurants, 5&10, market, and the dock. This side of Acadia National Park is breath-taking, smaller crowds, plenty of trails, and plenty of beautiful picture opportunities! Schoodic Point was perfect to sit or climb on the rocks and watch the waves crash! Frazer Point is a green grass picnic area with a fun pier to walk out on. Try the free shuttle from the Ferry to Acadia. Winter Harbor is full of kind, helpful people at every restaurant, Pete at 5&10, market, and walking through town. We especially loved the staff and food at Gerrish Cafe! The clam chowder and blueberry pie were outstanding, but we tried something new every breakfast and most lunches. Nothing disappointed. We took a few trips to Bar Harbor and the larger part of Acadia and enjoyed Cadillac Mountain, Bar Island Land Bridge, Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, Bubble Pond, and Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We enjoyed the ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor on our last day. We really enjoyed "Catch your dinner" lobster tour in Corea, ME where we saw seals, puffins, a lighthouse, and learned how to catch lobster from the pros. We all agreed that coming back to Winter Harbor at the end of the day was delightfully peaceful! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home, Steven and Suzanne!

My wife and I have stayed in close to 50 hours VRBO’s over the last few years and I can easily say that this was the nicest property, owned by the best owner, that we have ever stayed at. Communication was effortless, every inquiry answered within 1-2 minutes.
The owner cared so much for our happiness and satisfaction with his property. We were affected by a hurricane which was to come within 50 miles and he drove 300 miles to bring a generator in case the home lost electricity and some of our frozen food would potentially be lost. He even offered to pay for us to go and stay at a hotel further away from the hurricane. We turned down the offer as this was a problem beyond his power to control. I think that gives you an idea of what a wonderful guy this is.
We were t going to come back to Maine next year, but now we are planning to do so.
This was a wonderful vacation for us!

We stayed at this property last year and it was one of the best experiences ever. This year even better! Our compliments and appreciation to Stephen. This is a jewel of a house in a jewel of a Maine town!

Our family had a great time. The home was perfect and in the perfect location. Winter Harbor is peaceful and has all you need. It’s a great launching site for exploring the Downeast Coast Line. Highly recommend the house and the owners were super easy to work with for this trip.

A huge thank you to Stephen for opening his home to us! Stephen’s home was absolutely perfect for our family vacation. (We had 6 adults and 2 kids). Everything is as you expect it from reading the description and the pictures. Stephen was a wonderful host and made sure we had a wonderful time. He was easily accessible and we knew if we needed anything he was available. There is a manual for anything you could imagine for the house and around the house. After renting multiple houses in different states this is one of the most helpful items! There is no guessing for expectations or how to check in/out. The kitchen is well stocked with any utensil/item you could possibly need. The beds were comfortable and the house was very clean! The neighbors were also very friendly and helpful in giving local recommendations. If you’re looking to be in the middle of a hopping and super busy tourist area - this is not it. However, you can get to easily to Bar Harbor by ferry or driving (took us about an hour). Winter Harbor is the perfect place to relax in small town yet has multiple places to explore and eat that were within walking distance! (The local food places were delicious!!). The Schoodic part of Acadia is very close and absolutely beautiful. Hiking was so enjoyable and peaceful as you weren’t passing people constantly as we did on the trails in other parts of Acadia. My family and I would highly recommend this home!!

The home and the hosts were amazing... the location was perfect! The weather didn't cooperate the week we were there but the hosts Stephan and his wife checked-in on us and even had many games, etc. for us to use during our stay. Not only are they amazing hosts they gave us the best advice on what to do and where to go eat, where to hike, etc. I have rented many many homes and this was the most beautiful home we have every stayed in... you don't need to bring anything other than your clothes. Beautifully decorated and spotless, and a charming location... truly a best kept secret!

The home was much better than we expected. ONE OF THE BEST VRBO PROPERTIES WE HAVE EVER STAYED. The home was exceptionally clean and was stocked with everything you could ever need. There were very clear instructions on how to use and maintain the home during our visit, The check-in and check-out was easy, Stephen was very helpful and responded quickly. The location of the home was perfect. Great coffee shop next door, grocery store a short walk. We really like taking ferry to Bar Harbor. We prefer staying in Winter Harbor versus Bar Harbor. A lot less traffic and less noise.
We all agreed we would like to visit Winter Harbor again, hopefully for a longer stay, and definitely at this home!
A BIG Thanks to Stephen and Suzanne.

This was our first trip to Maine and we loved everything about the house and Winter Harbor. The house had everything we could possibly need for our stay throughout the week. The kitchen allowed us to cook most of our meals, but if you are wanting to eat out there are a variety of options close by. The book the owners created was detailed and allowed us to check out some places that we hadn't heard of. I strongly recommend Tidal Falls as we were able to find starfish easily during low tide. The town is quiet and it was fun to walk to the grocery store and coffee shop. We traveled to Bar Harbor three of the days to hike in Acadia and we were happy that we stayed on the "quiet" side. The drive to Acadia took about an hour but there was no traffic and it was an easy route. Most restaurants, ice cream places, and shops n Winter Harbor close by 8:00, so make sure you check the times and have everything you need to purchase for the day. We hope to be back again one day and would absolutely book this property.

We loved this charming, comfortable, delightful home. It is beautifully decorated, with lovely linens, plenty of towels, and many small touches that made our stay ever so nice. The hosts were terrific in providing detailed information about the house and fabulous suggestions on what to do in the area. It is over an hour's drive from the main parts of Acadia but the Schoodic side of Acadia was gorgeous and we enjoyed our time in Winter Harbor.

Lovely cottage with coffee, sandwich, breakfast options just steps away. Bike rental less than a mile away to bike around Schoodic Peninsula, the quieter side of Acadia. We hiked there, as well. Also walkable to the ferry over to Bar Harbor and main Acadia National Park (if the ferry isn't running, it's an hour drive).
The cottage is very comfortable, clean and well-maintained, and the info provided about the cottage and surrounding area very helpful. Stephen is an excellent host.

We were a group of 5 adults and two kids. This was one of our favorite properties we have stayed in. Everything was clean and well organized. There was everything you could need as far as condiments, seasonings, coffee pods, tea, and the list goes on. Great location for a short walk to the store and to food. We truly enjoyed our stay here!

We were looking for the perfect Maine get-a-way and we found it right here. This updated cottage had it all, location, comfort and cleanliness.
Winter Harbor offers the less traveled, but just as beautiful side of Acadia National Park. The VRBO host shared wonderful spots within Acadia and surrounding areas to hike, bike, catch the sunset or hunt for a glimpse of starfish- the local beauty is astounding! Winter Harbor also offers delicious restaurants (Ruth & Wimpy’s and The Bakery). One of our top local experiences was walking to the Winter Harbor Co-Op, where you can buy fresh lobster directly from the local fisherman who caught it. The Co-Op will steam the lobster for your right there, or you can bring it back to cook at the cottage and enjoy.
After a day of enjoying nature, we were always eager to return to the sparkly clean cottage, which offered everything we needed and more. The kitchen offers every needed utensil, lovely place settings and great coffee. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds and linens were oh-so-comfortable. My favorite was the wall heaters that were in each bathroom, which made a shower feel luxurious!
We would love to return to this area and cottage one day again! Thank you for making our vacation so comfortable!

As second time guests, we had a wonderful stay. The lovely historic home is comfortable, well equipped and spotless. We enjoyed the location right on main street and very close to Schoodic Point Acadia. We hiked, biked, took scenic drives nearby. We hope to return!

This house served as a base for visiting Acadia NP and the Down East area. It was just what we wanted away from the crowds in Bar Harbor.

Victorian Cottage was a lovely Maine style home, sparkling clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, and was equipped with all the amenities one would want in a rental cottage, including 2 Alexa smart speakers!!. The kitchen had a complete supply of cooking utensils making it perfect for our lobster dinner.. The location was perfect and views stunning. Our host Stephen, was the best!. His binder was complete and included all the information you would need to operate and control the devices in the home. He responded quickly to our issue with a blown circuit breaker caused by us inadvertently plugging in 2 portable heaters in the same room! We highly recommend this home to all visiting the Bar Harbor area.

I cannot say enough good things about this property and our experience staying here, but here goes:
The booking and check-in process were seamless; Stephen was appropriately communicative (i.e., reached out just enough-- not too much and not too little) from the day we booked in January until we departed on the last day of our stay in August. He gave us tons of ideas for activities (most or all of which we did, and they were all great), and the house manual was extremely thoughtful and detailed so any questions we had were already answered.
The house itself is gorgeous. It was clearly lovingly renovated so as to retain its considerable historical charm while providing luxury updates where you want them: ornate original light fixtures, moldings, and furniture incorporated into modern kitchen and bathroom amenities. The layout lent itself well to hanging out with our two year old; she ran circles around the main floor, but slept upstairs while we stayed in the master suite on the main floor (meaning, we didn't have to tiptoe to make sure she didn't wake...unlike at home!).
The amenities of the home are gracious; we found everything we needed and several things we didn't know we needed but were extremely grateful to have. The toddler loved playing with all the toys and games in the living room, and the collection of children's books made bedtime a breeze since we didn't pack any of our own. My husband and I sat by the firepit in the backyard every night and had several cups of coffee from the Keurig every morning.
Finally, the location: We'd never been to Maine before but heard Bar Harbor was nice, but it looking for places to stay we couldn't find a property there that met our needs (detached house with multiple bedrooms and parking at a reasonable rate) so we expanded our search to Winter Harbor. Man, was THAT a great move on our part! Winter Harbor is much less touristy than Bar Harbor (Bar Harbor is great, we spent a few days there, but wouldn't have wanted to stay there), much quieter and less crowded, and more in-line with what we wanted to do, which was spend time outdoors. We walked to the beach and the wharf, we biked around Schoodic Point, we ate at all the local restaurants, and took the ferry and drove to Bar Harbor when it worked for our schedule.
TL;DR version: Comfortable, clean, luxurious house in perfect location for families, including with tiny ones. Don't look any further-- this is the place you want.

This charming house was one of the most exceptional properties that we have ever stayed in. Everything was first class - the attention to detail , cleanliness, appointments, directions. etc. All in all a memorable experience. As a long-standing vacationers to Winter Harbor we found the location to be ideal. Central to all of our activities (biking, walking, shopping, and touring). Our thanks to the owners for all that you have done here!

Best VRBO experience! The location is beautiful. The 1880’s house updated and modernized without losing its charm. The owners had absolutely everything we needed and their communication was wonderful. Easy to get to Bar Harbor and Acadia and avoids the hustle and bustle of tourists. We loved it!!!

My family and I stayed at the property for 4 nights and loved every minute. The location of the house is great. Winter Harbor is a very quite charming little town. Perfect for a peaceful vacation and close enough to everything to venture out for the day. We spent a day visiting the local shops and don’t miss out on the awesome food at J.M. Gerrish!! (You can see it from the house) We spent a day at the Schoodic Peninsula at the point. Definitely recommend this adventure and it’s only a few min from the house. It is breathtaking. We loved our stay at this adorable, cozy, and very well equipped cottage and so did our teen and young adult children (ages 15-21)! The house was very clean and felt so welcoming and cozy as we arrived. We cooked many of our meals at home and the kitchen was very well equipped and fun too cook in! We barbecued a couple of nights and sat outside in the beautiful gardens surrounding the house!! It was so nice having a part of Acadia National Park so close, and we took the ferry over to Bar Harbor which was so much fun! We also rented kayaks and kayaked at Jones Pond. The ferry is also just a few minutes away! Winter Harbor was a bit more sleepy than we had imagined, but it was nice to go home to after a long day of activities!! We loved it!!

Family Vacation in Maine
A lovely home that is so charming! It was even better than I was expecting! The rooms were perfect for our family. The house is decorated and updated so beautifully!
Winter Harbor was a nice oasis from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but is close to many tourist and outdoor activities!
It was enjoyable walking around town, taking runs on the beautiful trails and roads.
Our family enjoyed Schooding Point and the drive through.
The ferry took us to
Bar Harbor one day. Through the park, we rode the electric bikes and had such a fun time. I highly recommend doing this. A great way to see the park.
Hiking Cadillac Mt and down to Jordan Pond was difficult but worth the views.
Another highlight was Thunder Hole and hanging out there on the rocks.
The Gallery Restaurant in Winter Harbor was really good! Ruth and Wimpy's down the road had great lobster and seafood! Side Street Grille in Bar Harbor and another place by the bike rental are very good.
Helen's, in Ellsworth, is notable as well!
The Puffin Cruise was terrific.
It was very educational and fun. It goes out of the Steuben area now.
The owners were so easy to work with!
I recommend this place highly!!

I want to live in a house like the one we stayed at. Quaint, old house, but equipped with everything a guest would need for a wonderful stay. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and furnishings. Modern conveniences… we had it all. We drove every day to visit Acadia Park and Bar Harbor and while Winter Harbor is not as close to the action as some would like, we enjoyed being away from the crowds. Our host was wonderful, providing lots of tips for sightseeing and activities and was very prompt and thorough with communications. Loved it!
