Really lovely family run place. Really appreciated the owners immediately knowing my name and always being so accommodating. Lovely place to relax and sit also.
Things (likely leaves?) do tend to fall on the tin roof above the rooms as you sleep which can sound quite loud so I advise ear plugs.

Will certainly return, very nice setting

Breakfast is excellent. Staff is very helpful (we almost missed the bus so Fernando drove us with his scooter!) And the scooter rental worked well.

Good location near good restaurants and the beach
The place is big with a lot of hammocks, it's nice to hangout
Very friendly staff
Very cheap
Rooms and bathrooms are pretty basic
The place ran out of power several times (even for a whole night so the fan couldn't work), I guess because of the rain

the room was great. staff was friendly.
far from other hostels. quite of a walk away from other hostels/activities on the island which can be dangerous at night.

Really lovely property and friendly hosts. Great location also.
Only downside was the window shutters in our room didn’t work so couldn’t close the window which was an issue with all the bugs.
We also got a taxi via the Hostal and he charged us $45 for 30 minutes of driving overall so would definitely recommend getting a taxi elsewhere.

Good breakfast and friendly staff. Good value for money
There was a lot of space between the roof and walls so many leaves and ants entered the room. Not very social

Very welcoming staff who helped me navigate the local buses. Lovely laidback property in the perfect location of Balgue.
My room was nice and clean. I had the best nights sleep I'd had in a long time.

Owned and operated by a very friendly family. Felt like home for a week. Quiet, yet central spot in Balgue. Walkable area. Access to lake. Good mosquito net and fan in bedroom. I enjoyed my clean, cozy, basic room with private toilet and shower - at the back of the property. However the walls are thin, so you will hear your neighbour. No wifi in the rooms at the back of the property, however there are nice open-air common spaces and lounge areas with good wifi access. Budget-friendly breakfast available in the morning. Small kitchen to cook in (very basic, not much to work with for any serious cooking). Owners helped me secure a great scooter rental - no hassle. I would return. :)

Very friendly family running the place. The bed was very comfortable and the hostel clean and quiet. This is not a party hostel nor one that is packed or dirty. The place is good value and in a very good location. Highly recommended.
The tin roof makes the rooms warm during the day.

A great family business that is very caring during your stay. They are in a nice area and have a two massive mango trees in the front which they kindly allowed us to pick mangos each morning! Great value for money. Also rented us scooters and did our laundry for a very reasonable price.

staff were super welcoming, kind and helpful! they really helped out our friends who booked somewhere else but when they arrived were told they had double booked them. Our room was comfortable and in good location to explore / right next to a bike rental and near restaurants etc

This little hotel is quiet with a lovely garden to relax in. The rooms are a good size and have a fridge and air-con, there’s also a communal kettle. The owners are a lovely, friendly family.
There was nothing I didn’t like. Just a note to solo travellers in particular, the property is a little walk out of town and the main road which it’s situated on, isn’t fully lit. I had no problems but it is something to be aware of. The distance from town affords the peace and tranquility.

Very welcoming place, staff were really helpful with everything. Highly recommend the breakfast. Decent location walking distance to some brilliant restaurants.

Great sized bedroom, lovely location. Lovely friendly owner.
The ensuite toilet was very rough and ready, and had no sink. But this wasn't a massive problem, just the only downside I can think of!

Tranquil setting very pretty grounds. Great service by manager and family members.
More shared bathrooms. Outside bathrooms didn't like too public. Mosquitoes everywhere as it's set in previous forests.

I would absolutely recommend anyone to go visit Estella and the team, they couldn’t do enough to make my stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. I was so sad to leave. The pancake breakfast in itself would be worth visiting for! An excellent place to practice my Spanish too! So patient.

We stayed at this small family run hostel on a recent 3 night trip to isla de Ometepe.
PROS
* STAFF - This is a multigenerational family run hostel. The family lives in the house at the front and the rooms are out the back. I counted 9 rooms and a couple of detached cabins. They are an exceptionally friendly family and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and tend to any needs you have.
* LOCATION - Balgue seems to be the ‘hub’ of the Volcan Maderas side of the island. There are about 3 restaurants (including arguably the most popular on the entire island) and a few convenience stores scattered across approximately 200m of road. This hostel is at the very end of this town. Being here means you can walk to a restaurant and you don’t get too isolated if you don’t have your own set of wheels. The road is paved from the port all the way to Balgue. You can also hike Volcan Maderas (or up to the halfway point mirador) without having to pay for transportation. You can get a shuttle from the port to the hostel for 200 cordoba each (organise it on the mainland side). Private taxis charge 25USD.
* WIFI - Provided but did drop in and out a bit. Hard to tell if this is the hostel or just the island.
* VALUE - We paid 80USD for the use of two private rooms containing three people over three nights. This really isn’t a lot of money.
* TOURS - They can arrange a lot of things for you at the hostel if you wish and the prices seemed reasonable. For example, we paid 30USD (total) for a group of three to hike Volcan Maderas. We also hired vehicles from next door (ATV 50USD, Scooter 20USD) and found the people there very easy to deal with.
* SECURE - The owners live in a house out the front. The doors locked and you can lock the window of the room.
* BREAKFAST - For a cost of 130 Córdoba they will cook you a breakfast (either nicuraguan or pancakes) with coffee. They even made us a lovely lunch for our hike up Maderas.
NOTE
* ROOMS - The rooms are very basic but this is clearly reflected in the minimal price. They consist of a single power point, a single light and bed. Beds are all covered with mosquito nets. Pedestal fans are available in most rooms.
* HOT WATER - Like most places, there is no hot water here. There are two showers, but the showers are more like open pipes. There is no shower head so you get a lot of cold water coming out at once. When we went this wasn’t really a problem as it was hot.
* BUGS - Ometepe has a lot of bugs, particularly mosquitos. The nets on the bed are great, but I would also recommend insect repellant for when you are out in the common areas.
Overall we had a really nice stay in this hostel which represented a lovely economical option on Ometepe.
