A propos de ce maisonrental
Maison du Sonneur, historic center of Uzés. House

Peaceful, quiet, charming home in the heart of Uzes. We came to Uzes for a friends wedding. It is a small town, easily accessible in the heart of Provence. The town itself is charming with old, cobbled streets, beautiful squares, markets, historical buildings, everything! The house is small, but charming, and exactly what you would want in the heart of an ancient city. The kitchen is fully stocked, and well laid out. It is where we spent all of our time with the doors wide-open to the outside. All three upstairs rooms have air conditioning that works well. The downstairs room stayed cool without AC. The price is a value from our eyes. Don't expect a five-star hotel. That's not why we stayed here. We stayed to have the experience in the downtown - and it did not disappoint. The bathrooms are tiny, and the showers not wonderful, but by French standards, they are normal. We had many friends and family members also stay in Uzes, and from comparing notes with them, we won the lottery with this house. From what I understand, it is almost impossible to find a quiet house away from the main road / noise in Uzes because of the town layout. This little gem of a house was PERFECT - and we never heard a car or noise other than the beautiful sound of birds in the morning. Philippe is a wonderful host and made us feel at home from the beginning.

A wonderful location in old town Uzès, our friends and family were very comfortable in this delightful home. Bedrooms were large and private. Kitchen was well equipped so we could take advantage of nearby market days. Host was responsive and accommodating. Highly recommend.

Our group of three loved this property. It's a charming house with a perfect balance of historic feel and modern convenience. We ate nearly every meal in the lovely courtyard and found it wonderfully relaxing and pleasant. (A large group in bad weather might find the common spaces a little small.)
The location is ideal. Uzès is a beautiful small town whose center is almost completely free of motor vehicles. The house is very quiet, but just a short walk to everything. As others have noted, parking is available a short walk away.
Philippe is a very friendly and responsive host. He was quick to respond to any questions or problems we raised.
All in all, one of the most enjoyable places we've ever stayed in our travels.

The house is lovely and well located to see the old town of Uzes. It is not possible to park at the house but bags can be unloaded at the metered short-term parking at the bottom of Rue St Theodorit, just off the Boulevard Victor Hugo. Philippe can arrange parking at Q-Park Gide nearby at a daily cost. As we were out of season, we could park easily for free on the outskirts of town, but this may be difficult in high season.
We did not meet Philippe until the end of our stay, but he was very pleasant and helpful via email. We had a little difficulty logging on to the Wi-Fi at first (as the instructions in the house book were out of date), but we managed this easily when we found a separate card with the correct log in details.
The house is well equipped and comfortable. The living room could be small if all bedrooms are occupied, but this should not be a problem when the weather allows you to use the lovely courtyard garden

This is our second time in this lovely old house. Nicely situated in the old part of Uzes but within easy reach of shops and amenities. Owner has made some excellent improvements since our last visit and we had a very comfortable two weeks, wish it could have been longer..

Fantastic
We (2 adults and 2 teenagers) had a lovely week’s holiday in this property. A lovely quiet house in the heart of a beautiful town. The house was well equipped and spacious. The air con in the bedrooms was very welcomed!
We spent most of our time at the property in the lovely little garden and barbecued most evenings. There were plenty of shops - little local shops and supermarkets within easy reach, and many of these were open every day - even Sundays - so we didn’t struggle for provisions.
We enjoyed being able to stroll up to the place aux herbes for a wide range of restaurants, bars and particularly the ice creams in the evenings and enjoy the sparkling lights on the trees while people watching.
The Wednesday and Saturday morning markets in the Place aux Herbes were amazing (although a little difficult to navigate the one way system on the Saturday as it was so busy with pedestrians and stalls!). There was also a lively little night market on the Tuesday.
Phillippe was always available online to answer our questions and even helped us with our luggage when we were leaving.
As the centre of historic Uzès is pedestrianised parking was not available at the property but we managed by stopping at the bottom of the lane and the others getting things up to the house quickly while one person stayed with the car and Phillippe arranged a pass for a nearby car park for the week.

Great location and great property
Comfortable living space and in an excellent location, we found it a very good place to relax with children and friends. Outdoor terrace was brilliant feature! Probably not the ideal kitchen for cooking meals, but it was okay for our purposes. The owners were helpful and a pleasure to deal with!

Outstanding location in a gorgeous wee town.
Phillipe was extremely helpful and gracious on arrival. Parking was facilitated, the house was well explained, and he also recommended some good restaurants as well as supplying some home made juice and wine. Five stars plus. Thanks for a great place to stay .

We have visited Uzès many times over the past 20 years or so and it never loses its charm. This year we stayed a month at Philippe & Joelle’s house and enjoyed every day. Not wanting to drive a rented car in Europe any more, we relied totally on public transport; the local bus service, although not very frequent, is fantastic value for money, serving the local area and Nîmes, Arles, Avignon, Ales etc. The train services to/from Nîmes are good (and include, for example, direct trains from Charles de Gaulle airport). The gastronomic highlight was a long lunch at Victor Croizard’s restaurant in Nîmes – outstanding food and wine in a superb garden setting. The stalls at the Wednesday and Saturday markets in Uzès (5 minutes walk from the house) are good sources of delicious charcuterie and seasonal fruit & vegetables, including a wide range of organic produce. The house was well equipped – particularly in the kitchen – but also in terms of facilities, there being a second, small ensuite bathroom upstairs. One word of warning – for some reason, the local swimming pool does not allow men or boys wearing boxer shorts in the pool – only “Speedos” allowed!

An adorable and charming house
This was our third trip to Uzes, and our first at the Maison du Sonneur. We are in love with Uzes, and staying in the house only made us dream even more of staying forever. The house is adorable, cozy, and full of medieval charm. It is located on a quiet pedestrian street within the heart of Uzes, a few minutes walk to everything. It has lots of natural light, with large windows and glass doors facing the very private courtyard. Even in the peak of winter, the garden was a perfect place to take our morning coffee. The petit kitchen has everything you could need for your stay, including spices and olive oil (which we finished, but made sure to restock). There are even our favorite guide books (Cadogan) on the region for your perusal in the living room. Philipe is super kind and helpful. He met us at our car and brought us to the house. There he greeted us with a bottle of wine and already had a fire roaring in the fireplace. This house is the kind of place that makes you want to be an artist and stay in retreat at the house for months at a time. It is rustic and quirky, and oh so lovely.

This is a wonderful summerhouse in the most beautiful part of Uzes. Philippe is a generous and patient host who helped us settle in and came whenever we needed assistance over our four month stay. On arrival the house was spotless and the garden well maintained. We stayed in this rustic summer home way into winter which was a challenge for us all to stay warm. Highly recommend the house for Spring, Summer or Autumn as it has the best internal garden courtyard in the old part of Uzes. A beautiful charming and welcoming village with everything you need to enjoy French country living at its best. You will not find a more generous or friendly host in Uzes. Thanks Philippe.

"Les points forts de la Maison du Sonneur sont: Le calme, l''authenticité, sa situation privilégiée dans le centre d''Uzès et à deux pas de belles ballades en campagne sans prendre la voiture. La coure extérieure ensoleillée et préservant l''intimité est un vrai plus. Vraiment une maison sympa où passer de bons moments. La gentillesse de Philippe achèvera de vous mettre complètement à l''aise. A recommander vivement si on n''a pas peur de la concurrence sur les bons plans!
For those speaking English: La Maison du Sonneur is a real good plan for discovering Uzès and its surroundings. Right in the old town, you will find a charming house that offers calm and authenticity. The little courtyard benefits from the sun and preserves your intinity. Amazingly, it''s just 50 m away or so from beautiful walks in the country side in the Eure valley where you can discover the starting point of the canal that was built 2000 years ago and was used to supply Nimes with water, passing through the famous Pont du Gard. Then, the kindness of Philippe will make you feel completely comfortable. Anyway, it''s a place to recommend only to your best friends!"

"The house was absolutely charming. It is everything that you can possibly want in an old rustic house in the midst of a Medieval town. The house has all of today's modern amenities. It sets the tone and is in easy walking distance to fine restaurants, shops, ATMs, historic buildings and near a short hike whereby you can still see ancient Roman ruins of an aqueduct constructed about 2,000 years ago that fed into the Pont du Gard and onto Nimes.
The neighborhood is quiet. Philippe and his wife Joelle were wonderful ambassadors to us. They took the time to show us the house, how the appliances work, then took us on a visit of the town. They are both most gracious and do take a serious interest in making your stay comfortable. They also provided us with a free parking pass on the outskirts of town (5 minute walk to the house) and some wine from their own vineyards!
I cannot recommend this location and house highly enough."

"The apartment was quite charming and comfortable. Phileppe was most accomodating, meeting us at the train station in Avignon and leading us to the house then showing us around Uzes, accompanying us to the parking garage. Perfect location on a pedestrian only street close to center of town. Lovely patio area for sitting outside and laundry facilites were great!"

"Philippe's house was very charming and very cozy. The location was in the center of Uzès.
Also, the little garden/courtyard was quite useful as our three young daughters were out there all the time (we were, too). The kitchen is fully equipped (with a big spice rack) and was a pleasure to cook in. The only thing missing was a high-chair for a baby and some sort of CD or iPod sound system. I will certainly recommend this rental to friends and family".

"This was a great house for a short stay in Uzes. It is located within the city walls of the old town, and within a short walking distance to shops, restaurants, markets etc. The house is as presented in the photographs. It is a very old house, and is furnished with authentic older style furnishings. If you are looking for something new and modern, this is not for you. If you are looking for something with some character, charm, and a great homely feel, this is definitely for you. The owner, Phillipe met us on arrival, and took the time to show us everything we needed to know about the house. He accompanied us to the car park, located nearby, and showed us how to enter / exit etc. Phillipe was very kind and generous, he even helped with our luggage. I would definitely recommend this house for a short stay in Uzes. Thanks Phillipe!"

"Our welcome was wonderful and we felt at home straight away. The accomodation was comfortable and the garden was really appreciated. Uzes is very picturesque and there was enough for us to do for a week without needing a car. The swimming pool is just a short walk away from the house which was very welcome and we sampled most of the bars and restaurants! The markets were really good, lots of good local produce to cook in the kitchen and eating out in the garden in the cooler evenings was a delight. My only wish was that there was another bathroom, as with two adults and four grown children, we had difficulty getting a shower when we wanted one!!"
