The location and they staff in the grotto are so helpful kind and approachable.

The apartment smelled strongly of ammonia. We had booked 3 nights but departed after the first night due to the smell - it woke us up in the middle of the night. We talked about the smell to the staff and manager who were present at the Grotto. They came to smell it but either they had long-covid so admitted they couldn't smell anything, or they said it was just humidity bc it's in a cave. I've been in caves many times, it was a hobby growing up. I've never smelled ammonia there. They offered to re-clean the apartment / mopping, but this was only after we waited for a solution >2h and at the point we had packed our bags and were saying goodbye. Also regular cleaning would unlikely solve the smell - it was a small that seemed to us deeper entrenched in the floor or walls. To make things worse, the booking is handled via Sykes cottages, an intermediate party. We had an initial call with them immediately after we checked out and they said they would get back to us about it, and possible refund for the nights we didn't stay. We never heard back. Subsequently they didn't respond to any messages via booking.com, they're automatic response system was changed so there was no way to speak to anyone anymore, and the only way to get in touch is through their website which is a nightmare and sends a million emails but I never could get my account to work. We are about a month later now. No response. Taken together, we are not usually critical - we happily stay in any old camper van and understand issues can happen but here we faced intolerable smell + impossible communication - it was just a terrible experience.

Amazing location, in a cave on the beach I was staying as attending the great north run and the location was perfect for this Staff in the restaurant attached were brilliant

No Wi-Fi or signal is annoying for 2 nights - we did know about this but is worrying when you have left your child with friends and family. Pillows could be better

the interior of the property is fab. a very very lose wonky kitchen tap but apart from that faultless, clean, amazing view.

the porch was full of weeds, a good clean and tidy and some decent patio furniture would be so much better.

The location was lovely - close to the beach. We enjoyed seeing the amazing colonies of sea birds. The restaurant owned by the same people was really nice and we enjoyed a delicious meal there. The staff were friendly and helpful. The amenities in the flat were good. We had everything we needed.

The bathroom on this property is beautiful! one side of the walls is raw cave. very clean and relaxed. hardly no service which is great if you’re wanting to escape technology.
